Crisis Intervention And The State Comprehensive Mental Health Service Plan Act Of 1986 (P.L. 99-660): An Historical Analysis, Thomas J. Barron

Theses and Graduate Projects

Despite numerous contributions by theorists and crisis service providers in the field of crisis intervention, few reports have examined underlying legislation. This study reviews policy trends in past mental health legislation and crisis programs between 1840 to 1996. It focuses on the State Comprehensive Mental Health Plan Act of 1986 (Public Law 99-660) and describes the response to such legislation in Minnesota. An incremental policy process illustrates how crisis intervention services have evolved to be part of the array of comprehensive mental health services.

The purpose of the study was to investigate any motivational differences or similarities between adults living in high at-risk and low at-risk communities with regard to volunteerism.

High and low at-risk communities were identified by the seven community at-risk indicators suggested by the Carnegie Council on Adolescents. Those communities with three or less indicators were …

Public Policy On Distance Learning In Higher Education: California State And Western Governors Association Initiatives, Gary A. Berg

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

The Western Governors University (WGU) and the California Virtual University (CVU) are revealing examples of the complex issues involved in implementing distance learning on the public policy level. Although technology is certainly important, it has masked the fact that the WGU and CVU initiatives mark the rise of learner-centered higher education and the increased role of business in the academy. In comparing and contrasting WGU and CVU, it is clear that the WGU is a more radical proposition because of competency-based credit and the connection with private industry. ...

Using Impact Group Therapy With Middle School Students With Behavioral Disorders, Jennifer Marafioti

Middle school students with behavioral disorders offer the greatest challenge to standard group counseling curriculas. Their age places them at the threshold of adolescence which is a notably difficult stage of development. Their disorder places them at risk of peer rejection and school failure. This curricula will consist of group counseling activities appropriate for middle school students with behavioral disorders as well as the props needed to facilitate success.
