Effects Of Temperature And Time Of Harvest On The Growth Andyield Of Aubergine ( Solanum Melongena L.), Ahmet Kürklü Jan 1998

Effects Of Temperature And Time Of Harvest On The Growth Andyield Of Aubergine ( Solanum Melongena L.), Ahmet Kürklü

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

An experimental study was conducted to define the response of aubergine to different temperatures in controlled greenhouses. Set temperatures of the greenhouses were 14, 18, 22, 26 and 30°C. In terms of vegetative growth, the plant response was the highest to the highest temperature then gradually decreasing for the lower temperatures. This was in contrast with the fruit development since as the temperature decreased from 30°C, mean fruit weight and size increased, and the total fruit yield was highest in 22°C which indicated an optimum temperature. However, there was no optimum for vegetative growth. This was found, by using a …

A Kinetic Study Of The Photolysis Of Ethylferrocene In Chloroform, Son L. Phan, Patrick E. Hoggard Jan 1998

A Kinetic Study Of The Photolysis Of Ethylferrocene In Chloroform, Son L. Phan, Patrick E. Hoggard

Chemistry and Biochemistry

The photooxidation of ethylferrocene to ethylferricinium ion and tetrachloroferrate in CHCl3 under 254 nm irradiation proceeds through light absorption by both ethylferrocene and chloroform. The products remain in solution at concentrations below 10-3 M. The fraction occurring through a solvent-initiated pathway increases during the course of the reaction. A secondary thermal reaction is responsible for generating tetrachloroferrate from ethylferricinium ion. The rate of the reaction increases during the early stages, and the data throughout the course of the reaction are consistent with the rate law ( afs + bfR)/ (1 + c[R]/[P]-d[R]/[Cl ]), where [R] and [P] are the concentrations …

Rhodes Scholar: Defining An Opportunity, Kevin Diehl Jan 1998

Rhodes Scholar: Defining An Opportunity, Kevin Diehl

Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)

While amateur athletes pursue the Olympics to prove their athletic prowess, collegiate scholars try to quantify their academic success by winning a Rhodes Scholarship. Track athletes must post an acceptable qualifying time just to compete in the Olympic trials where they must earn a berth to the Olympics. Likewise, after receiving their university's formal endorsement, aspiring Rhodes Scholars have to portray their all-around qualities and dreams in an application and essay, hoping to earn the chance just to be selected for a state interview. If they are fortunate at this level, the applicants become one of two nominees from each …

Sterilization: Choice, Right, Or Requirement? A Comment On The Best Interests Test In Re Eve, Laura Fraser

Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies

In 1986 the Supreme Court of Canada rendered its decision in E. (Mrs.) v. Eve. In that case, an application was made by the mother of Eve asking the Court to consent under its parens patriae jurisdiction to the sterilization of her daughter for both menstrual management and contraceptives purposes. Eve was described by the trial judge as a 24 year old "mild to moderately" mentally incompetent person who "might be able to carry out the mechanical duties of a mother under supervision... [but] incapable of being a mother in any other sense." The Supreme Court of Canada concluded that …

Preserving The Arts For Future Generations, Adrienne Capps Jan 1998

Preserving The Arts For Future Generations, Adrienne Capps

Honors Theses

The majority of arts supporters and enthusiasts these days are older persons. The large amount of leisure time these people have is one reason why they support the arts, but the biggest reason is because they were taught to value the arts when they were young. In today's society where children and young adults are faced with difficult issues that even their parents did not have to confront. such as drugs, sexual orientation, violence, suicide, guns, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, rape, murder, and many others, the arts take a place in the far back seat. Often due to these …

For Black Leaders : A Study Of West African And African-American Leadership, Markita M. Boney Jan 1998

For Black Leaders : A Study Of West African And African-American Leadership, Markita M. Boney

Honors Theses

Ninety-two years ago WEB DuBois wrote, "The Problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the Color Line." This line is not just one experiences by blacks or merely a problem for the United States, but, rather, a problem the entire world faces. Many events in this century have supported his statement. However, I feel that the problem for Black America is the lack of intellectual and spiritual leadership within our community.

Leadership And Self-Esteem In Girls, Amy Jones Jan 1998

Leadership And Self-Esteem In Girls, Amy Jones

Honors Theses

Self-esteem development and leadership development in girls is topic that has not been widely researched. It was the aim of this study to establish a firm ground for that connection to be developed further. I firmly believe that an increase in girls' self-esteems will trigger the ability and willingness of girls to take on more leadership roles and responsibilities. This research project, through design, implementation, and analysis, has confirmed my personal beliefs on the subject.

Almost seventeen percent of a girl's leadership capabilities stem from high self-esteem but the remainder of other factors play a large role in that process …

The principle objective of this research was to develop an integrated model to represent the interrelationships between land use and transportation, subject to the requirements of the ISTEA of 1991 and the CAAA of 1990. The integrated model includes two major parts: a land-use allocation module and a travel demand module. An interface module has also been built to transform data between these two modules. The land-use allocation module consists of a residential location model, an employment location model, a land use potential model, and a land consumption model. One unique feature of the residential and employment location models is …

Modeling And Optimization Of The Indiana Lane Merge Control System On Approaches To Freeway Work Zones, Part I, Andrzej P. Tarko, Sreenivasulu R. Kanipakapatnam, Jason S. Wasson Jan 1998

Modeling And Optimization Of The Indiana Lane Merge Control System On Approaches To Freeway Work Zones, Part I, Andrzej P. Tarko, Sreenivasulu R. Kanipakapatnam, Jason S. Wasson

JTRP Technical Reports

Severe traffic turbulence on entry sections of freeway work zones increases the delays and risk of crash. A new Indiana Department of Transportation system called Indiana Merge Lane System (IMLS) creates a dynamic no passing zone on the approach to the freeway work zone through the sequence of DO NOT PASS signs. The system is thought to encourage drivers to switch lanes well upstream of the discontinuous lane taper where the merging maneuver is safer and less intrusive. The IMLS is expected to impact drivers’ behavior, their perception of the traffic conditions, and traffic safety.

This research is focused on: …

Timelike Ruled Surfaces In The Minkowski 3-Space-Ii, A. Turgut, H. H. Hacisali̇oğlu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper is devoted to a study of timelike ruled surfaces in three dimensional Minkowski space obtained by a spacelike straight line moving along a timelike curve. The central point, the curve of striction and the distribution parameter of a timelike ruled surface in Minkowski 3-space are considered, and some theorems relating to their structure are obtained. In addition, some results about developable timelike ruled surfaces are also given.

About Some Classical Functional Equations, Nicolae Neamtu Jan 1998

About Some Classical Functional Equations, Nicolae Neamtu

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The purpose of this paper is to give a new method of finding the solution of Lobashevsky's functional equation and those of other classical functional equations. At the beginning we present the properties of solution $f, \; f \neq 0$, of Lobachevsky's functional equation. Using only the boundedness property on $(-r, r)$, we deduce the continuity, convexity and differentiability properties of the solution.
