The Influence Of An Early Childhood Program On The Academic Achievement, Attendance, And Attitudes Of Urban At-Risk Students, Daisy Mccray Murphy Mar 1998

The Influence Of An Early Childhood Program On The Academic Achievement, Attendance, And Attitudes Of Urban At-Risk Students, Daisy Mccray Murphy

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of an early childhood preschool program on the achievement, attendance, and attitudes of at-risk students in an urban Southeastern school division in Virginia. The study compared two groups of Title I eligible four-year-olds, those who participated (n = 88) and those who did not non-participate (n = 54), in a preschool program. A review of the literature revealed that early intervention efforts have addressed the school success dilemma for at-risk students with varying degrees of effectiveness. Increased attention toward the implementation of developmentally appropriate learning environments have afforded at-risk students …

Neuro Fuzzy Reasoning For Pattern Classification And Object Recognition., Jayati Ghosh Dr. Mar 1998

Neuro Fuzzy Reasoning For Pattern Classification And Object Recognition., Jayati Ghosh Dr.

Doctoral Theses

In real world, pattern classification and object recognition problems are faced with fuzzi- ness that is connected with diverse facets of cognitive activity of the human being. An origin of sources of fuzziness is related to labels expressed in feature space as well as to labels of classes taken into account in classification and /or recognition procedures. Though a lot of scientific efforts have already been dedicated to pattern recognition problems, especially to classification procedures, still pattern recognition is confronted with a continuous challenge coming from a human being who can perform lot of ex- tremely complex classification tasks by …

A Review On The Documentation For The South Florida Water Management Model (Sfwmm), Daniel P. Loucks, Wendy D. Graham, Conrad D. Heatwole, John W. Labadie, Richard C. Peralta

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

Early in February 1998, the South Florida Water Management District asked Professors Wendy D. Graham, Comad D. Heatwole, John W. Labadie, Daniel P. Loucks, and Richard C. Peralta to serve on a panel to

• Review the Draft Documentation for the South Florida Water Management Model (SFWMM),

• Develop a series of questions, issues and areas for discussion during a site visit,

• Visit the District for a model familiarization session, and

• Prepare and submit a written evaluation of the model, with emphasis on the documentation that will include criticisms, specific recommendations for improvement, and responses to questions posed.

Publications

Measurements were made of mesospheric gravity waves in the OI (5577 Å) nightglow observed from Maui, Hawaii, during the Airborne Lidar and Observations of Hawaiian Airglow (ALOHA-93) campaign. Clear, monochromatic gravity waves were observed on several nights. By using a full-wave model that realistically includes the major physical processes in this region, we have simulated the propagation of four waves through the mesopause region and calculated the O(¹S) nightglow response to the waves. Mean winds derived from Na wind/temperature lidar observations were employed in the computations. Wave amplitudes were calculated based on the requirement that the observed and …

Perc Report 1998 - Research In Physics Education Group, University Of Nebraska - Lincoln

Research in Physics Education Group

The work of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Research in Physics Education Group has two main thrusts. One is to examine student reasoning and the other is to use multiple forms of media to improve the teaching and learning of physics. Multiple projects are underway in the summer of 1998 which are related to these interests.
