Influence Of Buffers On The Blectrodeposition Of Nickel From A Watts Bath, Can-Zh Gao, Yu-Li Lu, Ru-Tao Liu, Fang Chen, Shu-Ben Li May 1998

Influence Of Buffers On The Blectrodeposition Of Nickel From A Watts Bath, Can-Zh Gao, Yu-Li Lu, Ru-Tao Liu, Fang Chen, Shu-Ben Li

Journal of Electrochemistry

The electrochemical reactions occurring during the deposition of nickel from Watts bath have been examined using the voltammetric technique. The important reactions taking place at the anode and cathode have been identified. The influence of buffers HAc, H3BO3 and NH4Cl on the rate of nickel deposition was marked in the lower concentration (0.01-0.05 mol/L) of buffers. The reason why buffers make the rate of nickel deposition increase were discussed.

Studies On Impedance Of Acid-Copper Electroplating System, Wen Deng, Zhao Liu, Xiang-Min Lin, He-Tong Guo May 1998

Studies On Impedance Of Acid-Copper Electroplating System, Wen Deng, Zhao Liu, Xiang-Min Lin, He-Tong Guo

Journal of Electrochemistry

The impedance characteristics of elementary solution (0.3 mol/L CuSO4+1.94 mol/L H2SO4) and that with the addition of 60 mg/L Cl-, 300 mg/L OP-21, 30 mg/L PEG, 10 mg/L 2thiazolinyldithiopropane sulfate (self-synthesized additive) are investigated and interpreted in terms of equivalent circuit. The results indicated: (1) Cl- ion can increase cathodic polarization. (2) A twostep reaction mechanism corresponds to Cu2+ reduction, that is: Cu2+→Cu+, Cu+→Cu(adsorption)→Cu(lattice), Cu2+ react in different forms of complex ion in sulfuric acidcupric sulfate solution with or without Cl- ion. …

New Esr-Electrochemical Cell Designs For Coaxial Microwave Cavity, Lin Zhuang, Jun-Tao Lu May 1998

New Esr-Electrochemical Cell Designs For Coaxial Microwave Cavity, Lin Zhuang, Jun-Tao Lu

Journal of Electrochemistry

New cell designs for simultaneous electrochemical (EC) and electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements are reported for coaxial microwave cavity. Adjustable shieldings are introduced so that the working electrode can be much shorter than the full height of the cavity. Besides the traditional helical electrode, the working electrode can be cylinders made from metal plates, metallic meshes or even composite materials. The counter electrode can be placed either inside or outside the cavity. These features make the new designs more flexible than that previously reported. With a nonperforated cylindrical electrode, this cell can be used to determine the standard potential and …

Theory Of Nothing, Adam Wieslaw Rupniewski May 1998

Theory Of Nothing, Adam Wieslaw Rupniewski

Dissertations and Theses

My work was presented in the form of an installation. Using three and two-dimensional objects, as well as sound and light, I created a site specific type of installation. Materials involved in this project were hydrostone, plaster, steel and copper. The sound I recorded on my steel sculptures in an acoustic space and then mixed to create sound compositions to amplify the feeling for the space. This installation reflects my pursuits in painting and sculpture, as well as my interest in music and light effects. Its philosophical and spiritual content were expressed through visual language, symbolic use of elements and …

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications

The present invention is applicable generally to Spectroscopic Rotatable and Rotating Element Ellipsometers which utilize a relatively large range of wavelengths. Disclosed is a system and method for controlling the polarization state of a polarized beam of light so that it is in a range where the sensitivity of a Polarization State Detector used to measure changes in said polarized beam of light resulting from interaction with a Sample System. to noise and measurement errors etc.. is reduced. Exemplified is a system. and method of use, for simultaneously setting both measured ellipsometric ALPHA, and ellipsometric BETA parameter values, (or equivalents), …

New Algorithms For Moving-Bank Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation, Juan R. Vasquez May 1998

New Algorithms For Moving-Bank Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation, Juan R. Vasquez

Theses and Dissertations

The focus of this research is to provide methods for generating precise parameter estimates in the face of potentially significant parameter variations such as system component failures. The standard Multiple Model Adaptive Estimation (MMAE) algorithm uses a bank of Kalman filters, each based on a different model of the system. A new moving-bank MMAE algorithm is developed based on exploitation of the density data available from the MMAE. The methods used to exploit this information include various measures of the density data and a decision-making logic used to move, expand, and contract the MMAE bank of filters. Parameter discretization within …

Two Capture Techniques For American White Pelicans And Great Blue Herons, D. Tommy King, John D. Paulson, Dwight J. Leblanc, Kevin Bruce May 1998

Two Capture Techniques For American White Pelicans And Great Blue Herons, D. Tommy King, John D. Paulson, Dwight J. Leblanc, Kevin Bruce

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

We describe two techniques for capturing American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos), Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), and other large wading birds in aquatic habitats. One technique involved using #3 padded jaw leghold traps modified by replacing both factory coil springs with weaker #1.5 coil springs, to reduce the closing force of the jaws, and replacing the factory chain with a length of aircraft cable and an elastic shock cord, to minimize injury caused by lunging. The second technique involved using a modified portable rocket net that can be set in shallow water. We captured 142 American …

August Vilmar's Theology Of Fact Versus The Theology Of Rhetoric, Martin Conkling May 1998

August Vilmar's Theology Of Fact Versus The Theology Of Rhetoric, Martin Conkling

Master of Sacred Theology Seminar Papers

The work and theology of August Vilmar has largely been neglected in this country even though he was a prominenet theologian who lent substantial weight in a momentous effort to resurrect and restore the Lutheran confessions- to Germany in the first half of the nineteenth century. This translation is an attempt to recognize the vast contributions which Vilmar made to this effort and to identify those writings which would serve the church well today. Vilmar left no school of thought or method behind him as other great figures in the German universities often did. There are many reasons for this …

Educational Standards And The Problem Of Error, Noel Wilson May 1998

Educational Standards And The Problem Of Error, Noel Wilson

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

This study is about the categorisation of people in educational settings. It is clearly positioned from the perspective of the person categorised, and is particularly concerned with the violations involved when the error components of such categorisations are made invisible. Such categorisations are important. The study establishes the centrality of the measurement of educational standards to the production and control of the individual in society, and indicates the destabilising effect of doubts about the accuracy of such categorisations. ...

The Construct Validation Of An Instrument To Measure Total Quality Management In Higher Education., Kee Kong Tan May 1998

The Construct Validation Of An Instrument To Measure Total Quality Management In Higher Education., Kee Kong Tan

Theses and Dissertations

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a continuous process to improve the quality, bureaucracy, and productivity of an organization. TQM in higher education started in the early 1980s and has received attention in improving quality of education. There is a need to construct an instrument to measure TQM in higher education because the instrument would provide an assessment and implementation framework for any institution that wishes to implement or evaluate the quality of its education. Although the process of construction of an instrument is common in many measurement studies, studies regarding the construct validation of an instrument to measure TQM in …
