Rethinking Rewards: Rewarding A And Hoping For B!, Abhoy K Ojha Oct 1998

Rethinking Rewards: Rewarding A And Hoping For B!, Abhoy K Ojha

IIMB Management Review

It would seem to be well established wisdom that if a particular behaviour is desired, that should be rewarded rather than any other behaviour. Based on a case study of two hospitals in a Canadian province, Abhoy Ojha concludes that in situations where it may not be practical to reward the desired behaviour, a related behaviour could be rewarded in order to elicit the behaviour desired. An adequate understanding of the complex relationship between rewards and behaviour may allow organisations to design systems that are seen to encourage one behaviour, but also elicit multiple other desirable behaviours.

Best Practices For Tourism Center Development Along The Red Sea Coast, Stephen M. Reeve, Stephen C. Jameson, Ragaei S. Abdel-Fattah, Bernhard Riegl, Randa Hassan, Alvin P. Newman

Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Reports

The spectacular coastlines along Egypt's Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba are the focus for one of the fastest growing tourism economies in the world. In order to accomplish national objectives for growth in permanent, well-paying jobs and in foreign exchange earnings, the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has launched an initiative to make land available to investors for resort development along these coastlines. As of December, 1997, 6,000 hotel rooms are under construction in the Red Sea region and the TDA has proposals for at least 240 major resorts to be built by the year 2020.

Role Of Fibreoptic Bronchoscopy In The Management Of Immunocompromised Patients With Pulmonary Infiltrates, S F. Hussain, I Malik, J A. Khan

Section of Pulmonary & Critical Care

Immunocompromised patients are prone to develop various pulmonary complications. The range of diagnostic possibilities is wide, infection being the commonest cause. Non-invasive diagnostic tests are often unrewarding. In this study, we have evaluated the diagnostic efficacy and safety of fibreoptic bronchoscopy in immunocompromised patients with pulmonary infiltrates. Patients tolerated the procedure well. This technique identified the etiology in up tp 75% of cases. After treatment based on the result of bronchoscopy, 63% patients improved and were discharged.

CUTR Research Reports

Although the United States has achieved dramatic progress in the past several decades in terms of highway safety, there is however still room for improvement. Each year, tens of thousands of people are killed and millions injured as a. result of highway crashes, which in tum pose considerable economic loss to society. One area of highway safety that deserves further consideration is in relation to special population groups.

This project concentrates on the highway safety needs of six special population groups: older drivers, school aged children, young drivers, international tourists, new immigrants and people with disabilities. Ranking of highway safety …
