Plagiarism, Copyright Violation, And Other Thefts Of Intellectual Property: An Annotated Bibliography With A Lengthy Introduction, Judy Anderson
CUP Faculty Research
Ideas. How has our society come to think we can put a price tag on them and when does using the idea of another become theft?
This work permits the exploration of many facets of plagiarism and the theft of intellectual property. The four-part Introduction summarizes and dissects the many currents of the present situation (late 1997). It includes definitions, cases, the underlying sense of "follow the money" that seems to permeate this ethereal realm, and the means used to prove or disprove the accusations of misconduct.

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications
The seroprevalence of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) among a group of Zambian women of reproductive age and among mother-child pairs in which either one of them has Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) was determined. A cross-sectional group of 378 pregnant women was randomly recruited into the study, and 183 (48.4%) had HHV-8 antibodies. Among the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1–infected women, 51.1% were HHV-8–seropositive, whereas of HIV- 1–negative women, 47.3% were HHV-8–seropositive. In addition, 21 women index patients with KS and 5 young children index patients with KS were studied. All children with KS had mothers who were HHV-8–seropositive, while not all children …

Campus Safety Directors: A Leadership Frame Analysis, Ross A. Wolf
Campus Safety Directors: A Leadership Frame Analysis, Ross A. Wolf
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This study is based on leadership frame theory as developed by Drs. Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal who merged several different schools of theory into four different frames: structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. In July, 1998 the Leadership Orientation (Self) survey, developed by Bolman and Deal (1990a) was distributed to 343 campus safety directors at American public four-year postsecondary institutions. A return of 190 (55.4%) useable survey instruments was obtained in this study.
The utilization of leadership frames by campus safety directors was examined as well as the relationship between frame usage and age, education level, length of time …
Medical Paradigms For Counseling: Giving Clients Bad News, Linda F. Smith
Medical Paradigms For Counseling: Giving Clients Bad News, Linda F. Smith
Utah Law Faculty Scholarship
When lawyers must give clients "bad news," they should draw upon the lessons that emerge from the world of medical counseling. Lawyers must be direct and candid about the state of affairs. They must fully describe how grim the situation appears nd explain why this is their opinion. They must enter into a dialogue in which the client's questions are answered and the client's feelings are respected and responded to. Lawyers must be self-aware in order to avoid re-sponding dysfunctionally to the client's reactions. They should show empathy and communicate hope to the "whole person" who is the client. Only …

Spectral Properties Of Operators That Characterize ℓ∞(N), B. L. Chalmers, B. Shekhtman
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
It is well known that the identity is an operator with the following property: if the operator, initially defined on an n-dimensional Banach space V, can be extended to any Banach space with norm 1, then V is isometric to ℓ∞(n). We show that the set of all such operators consists precisely of those with spectrum lying in the unit circle. This result answers a question raised in [5] for complex spaces.

Architecture Program: Faculty Scholarly and Creative Activity
Architectural scholars and professionals have long recognized the erosion of culturally endowed architectural meaning: technology transfer has caused the relationship between form and its means, so evidently reciprocal in indigenous construction, to crumble. Natives and tourists alike now deprecate traditional architecture while applauding the pseudoauthentic. If the irreversible universalization of technology and of man constitutes “a sort of subtle destruction, not only of traditional culture … but also of what I shall call for the time being the creative nucleus of great cultures, that nucleus on the basis of which we interpret life,” is architecture doomed to lose its rneaningfulness? …

Texas Recreational Trails Fund Application Guide, Texas Parks And Wildlife Department, Texas Parks And Wildlife Department Land Conservation Program
Documents from the State of Texas-Archive
The Symms National Recreational Trails Act, authorized by Congress and signed by the 61 President in 1991 as part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, created a 7.1% new federal trails assistance program. The recreational trails program receives its funding from a portion of federal gas taxes paid on fuel used in non-highway recreational vehicles. Funds can be spent to construct new recreational trails, improve/maintain existing trails, develop/improve trailheads or trailside facilities, and acquire trail corridor/easements. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is administering the funds in Texas under the approval of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Funding provided …
