No More Messing Around: Substantive Due Process Challenges To State Laws Prohibiting Fornication, Traci Shallbetter Stratton Jul 1998

No More Messing Around: Substantive Due Process Challenges To State Laws Prohibiting Fornication, Traci Shallbetter Stratton

Washington Law Review

Anglo-American law has historically prohibited fornication, and through the 1960s fornication remained illegal in all but ten states. Few questioned the validity of laws proscribing various forms of private, adult, consensual sexual behavior until the early 1970s. Aside from legislative repeal, substantive due process has been the primary weapon in the fight against state sex laws. Foreign Currency Judgments: Need For A Proper Legal Regime, Vikram Raghavan

National Law School Journal

Foreign Currency judgments are a recent innovation, no doubt but are likely to be a tremendous boon to the commercial world. In the era of enhanced global trade made possible through breaking down of barriers of all kinds, it would be improper for the law to adhere to rigid and wooden rules like currency and breach date rules. There can be no problem if the currency indicated in an order or award is the same as that is in vogue in the nation. However due to the international nature of dispute settlement, currency expressions may be alien to the place …

FOCUS on Boise State

Many people dream about owning their own business. Some eventually will, such as BSU graduate Paul Wegner who, with his wife, Mary Jean, own Cucina di Paolo, a takeout gourmet lasagna shop in Boise. The market, say small business owners, is ripe for entrepreneurs who have a business plan in place. This issue of FOCUS introduces you to those who have taken the plunge into the world of self-employment with the help of the Idaho Small Business Development Center and BSU. Organization Change And Vinification Cooperatives In France's Midi, Trevor C. Knox Jul 1998

Organization Change And Vinification Cooperatives In France's Midi, Trevor C. Knox

Economics Working Papers

Standard accounts of French industrialization blame the predominance of the traditional family firm for France s failure to adopt or to pioneer modern production methods. Economic historians could easily interpret the cave cooperative vinicole as evidence that corroborates this explanation for inefficiency in French agriculture and industry. The cave cooperative preserved the idiosyncrasies that attend fragmented land tenure at the expense of governance costs and incentive problems associated with cooperative ownership and control. These apparent barriers to rationalized production notwithstanding, this paper claims that the cooperative was a progressive organizational structure that adapted winegrowers in southern France to the emerging …
