A Study Of Child Abuse: Race Gender And Family Structure, Linda Wyatt Faircloth

Using 1989-1994 data collected from the Portsmouth Department of Social Services in Portsmouth, Virginia, this study looked at severity and recidivism of child abuse in Portsmouth from 1989-1994. Analyses of data from the Portsmouth Department of Social Services indicated that children living in single parent families are more likely to be severely abused than children living in two parent families but no differences were observed for race and age.

Acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency in urban setting, of a developing country. The computerised hospital patient database at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, was utilised to obtain records of all adults with a histologically proven diagnosis of acute appendicitis. A review of patients treated over a 18 month period was undertaken. One hundred and three appendicectomies were performed for acute appendicitis during this period. The diagnosis was clinical in all cases. Investigations like leucocyte count and lower abdominal ultrasound scan were used to improve diagnostic accuracy without a clear advantage. Cross-Racial Facial Identification: Black And White Oriented Elaborative Processing, Tonika E. Duren

The present study was conducted to affect the own-race bias effect in facial recognition by using an elaboration process. According to method, 45 Black and 45 White college male and female participants completed the experiment. Participants were presented Black and White faces on a screen. Each face was rated using 1)Black-Oriented instructions which focused on features such as eye size, nose width, and lips, 2)White- Oriented instructions which focused on eye color, hair color, and hair texture, 3) Attitude- Oriented instructions which focused on intelligence, friendliness, and honesty. Vale recordar, por ejemplo, el pleito Paz-Fuentes, pleito que se agudiza con la publicación de un articulo de Enrique Krauze—amigo de Paz y colaborador de Vuelta—en el que Krauze se refiere al "mal uso" que hace Fuentes de la historia. Lingnan University's Milestone in Hong Kong - Featured Newspapers Clipping
Since its foundation in 1967, Lingnan College reached its 30th anniversary in 1997. Over the last three decades, Lingnan College grew and transformed from a small private college operating with a few classrooms to a degree-granting institution with a new and purpose-built campus in Tuen Mun. Lingnan College's 30th anniversary celebration in 1998 reached the apex and the year also marked the 110th anniversary of Lingnan University in Canton founded in 1888.
Special report was published in South China Morning Post to commemorate and celebrate the occasion of the 30th anniversary and the College's remarkable achievements over the years.

Developmental Expression Of Rat Target Of The Antiproliferative Antibody (Rtapa) Protein In The Brain, Clyde Dale Sullivan

The present study defines the expression pattern of rTAPA (CD81) in the developing rat brain. rTAPA is a member of the tetramembrane spanning family of proteins, and like other members of this family, appears to be associated with the stabilization of cellular contacts. On immunoblots of the brain, rTAPA is present in higher levels than any other tissue examined: muscle, tendon, peripheral nerve, cartilage, liver, kidney, skin, and testicle. Immunohistochemical methods were used to define the distribution of rTAPA in the brain. This protein is expressed by ependyma, choroid plexus, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes, and rTAPA is dramatically upregulated at the …
