Terminal Sedation As Palliative Care: Revalidating A Right To A Good Death, George P. Smith Ii Jan 1998

Terminal Sedation As Palliative Care: Revalidating A Right To A Good Death, George P. Smith Ii

Scholarly Articles

A Sociolinguistic Analysis Of Face-Threat And Face-Management In Potential Complaint Situations, Laura Hartley

Faculty Publications - Department of Sociology

Within the pragmatics literature, a number of studies have investigated the speech act of complaining. In most cases, the researchers have failed to define a "complaint" before proceeding with analysis. The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical definition of a "complaint" and to examine in-depth the linguistic details of the speech act of complaining, with a particular view to illuminating the linguistic devices employed in managing the "face" of the participants involved in Potential Complaint Situations. Landfill Design, Construction And Non-Invasive Monitoring, Amanda Jane Hopper Jan 1998

Landfill Design, Construction And Non-Invasive Monitoring, Amanda Jane Hopper

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Theses

Three techniques are investigated in order to assess their applicability for use in landfill design, construction and monitoring. The research illustrates the requirement for standardised, regulated QA procedures on landfill sites in order to provide a recognised framework for construction control. The Moisture Condition Value Test (MCV) is evaluated for use as a method of monitoring the placement of compacted clay landfill liners. London Clay and Mercia Mudstone, collected from the QA …
