Outsiders' Perceptions Of An Organization's Leadership Through Exposure To Its Nonverbal Ecology, Dominick S. Feriozzi Jan 1998

Outsiders' Perceptions Of An Organization's Leadership Through Exposure To Its Nonverbal Ecology, Dominick S. Feriozzi

Honors Theses

This study's importance rests on its focus to discover whether individuals accurately perceive the leadership style of an organization through exposure to its nonverbal ecology, in this case the lobby/reception area. Leadership style is reflected in "the social dimensions of organizations, such as patterns of communication (frequency and occurrence of various kinds of inter- and intradepartmental, formal and informal, interactions), perceptions of participation in decision making, and job autonomy." More simply stated, leadership style reflects the manner in which work is completed throughout the organization due to the relationships that exist between leaders and followers.

Preserving The Arts For Future Generations, Adrienne Capps Jan 1998

Preserving The Arts For Future Generations, Adrienne Capps

Honors Theses

The majority of arts supporters and enthusiasts these days are older persons. The large amount of leisure time these people have is one reason why they support the arts, but the biggest reason is because they were taught to value the arts when they were young. In today's society where children and young adults are faced with difficult issues that even their parents did not have to confront. such as drugs, sexual orientation, violence, suicide, guns, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, rape, murder, and many others, the arts take a place in the far back seat. Often due to these …

For Black Leaders : A Study Of West African And African-American Leadership, Markita M. Boney Jan 1998

For Black Leaders : A Study Of West African And African-American Leadership, Markita M. Boney

Honors Theses

Ninety-two years ago WEB DuBois wrote, "The Problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the Color Line." This line is not just one experiences by blacks or merely a problem for the United States, but, rather, a problem the entire world faces. Many events in this century have supported his statement. However, I feel that the problem for Black America is the lack of intellectual and spiritual leadership within our community.

Dance As An Instrument For Social Change Leadership, Meredith Mccanse Jan 1998

Dance As An Instrument For Social Change Leadership, Meredith Mccanse

Honors Theses

From responses of audience members, a domestic violence expert, and a Dance professor, it is apparent that the performance of Silent Cries was a catalyst of change. While not all viewers were raised to a new level of consciousness, a number of participants reported raised awareness and/or intentions to take action in support of domestic violence survivors. An overwhelming majority of those polled reported some form of emotional response to the dance. This is evidence that even with a well-educated audience, dance has the power to make a connection and move hearts. The domestic violence expert as well as general …

King David : God's Annointed One : A Study Of Leadership Theory Through Analysis Of King David, Chris Headley

Honors Theses

The intention of this text is to examine Biblical leadership principles. Because this author believes wholly in the full Divine Inspiration of the Bible, these principles are deemed, in this text, to be accurate, appropriate, and applicable to the daily lives of leaders. The leadership principles of the Bible will not be evaluated by outside texts regardless of current academic leadership thought.

There is a great deal that should be said to summarize what King David taught generations of people about leadership. Some of the lessons are solely Christian, others are very applicable to the secular world. In summary, David's …

It discusses the nature of this fatal birth defect, the manner in which these infants have been dealt with in the past, and how they are treated today. Measuring Progress; Evaluating The Strengthening Of Communities, Phil Bartle Jan 1998

Measuring Progress; Evaluating The Strengthening Of Communities, Phil Bartle

Evaluation/Reflection

Our goal is stated; we want to strengthen communities. We feel that we have a methodology to do so, but how can we know when we have succeeded, or to what extent?

What we may mean by the above question, is, "How do we measure the strengthening of communities that we claim we are doing?" Put in other ways, "What do we mean by strengthening communities, by increasing their capacities, by empowering them?" We can use these three (1 empowering, 2 strengthening, 3 capacity building) interchangeably, although one or another may be more acceptable to different people. …

Waging War Against The World: The Need To Move From War Crimes To Environmental Crimes, Mark A. Drumbl Jan 1998

Waging War Against The World: The Need To Move From War Crimes To Environmental Crimes, Mark A. Drumbl

Fordham International Law Journal

The international community has been more hesitant in accounting for the environmental consequences of war. All that the international community has been able to negotiate is scattered collateral references in a variety of treaties and conventions. One immediate task will be to consolidate these references into a single document or treaty. A more daunting task, of which this easy shall provide a brief overview, is to develop a mechanism to ensure compliance with these standards, to deter deviation therefrom, and to allocate responsibility for wrongdoing. More specifically, this essay considers the ability of the International Criminal Court to perform such …

The "Power Of Appraisal" (Pouvoir D'Appreciation) Of The Commission Of The European Communities Vis-À-Vis The Powers Of Judicial Review Of The Communities' Court Of Justice And Court Of First Instance, Virpi Tiili, Jan Vanhamme Jan 1998

The "Power Of Appraisal" (Pouvoir D'Appreciation) Of The Commission Of The European Communities Vis-À-Vis The Powers Of Judicial Review Of The Communities' Court Of Justice And Court Of First Instance, Virpi Tiili, Jan Vanhamme

Fordham International Law Journal

It is, therefore, clear that the Courts must test the soundness of the Commission's appraisals. This means, however, that judges are obliged to examine the administrative file, thereby inevitably bringing themselves intellectually close to building their own bridge from the facts, via the legal framework of the case, to a legal outcome in casu. In some instances, it may prove almost impossible to disguise the conflict between the Court’s and the Commission's assessments in the judgment, especially if annulment or damages is the outcome of the case. It is in this regard that an appropriate balance must be found between …

The Amsterdam Treaty: Overview And Institutional Aspects, Jean-Claude Piris, Giorgio Maganza Jan 1998

The Amsterdam Treaty: Overview And Institutional Aspects, Jean-Claude Piris, Giorgio Maganza

Fordham International Law Journal

The overall picture presented by the media regarding the two day and two night Amsterdam meeting of the Heads of State and Government in June 1997 was largely negative. The main reason for the negativity was that the Intergovernmental Conference (“IGC”), by failing to agree on Treaty amendments concerning the size of the Commission and the weighting system for qualified majority voting in the Council, supposedly could not produce satisfactory responses as to the need to reform the institutions of the European Union with a view to its next enlargement. Is this picture justified in light of the actual outcome …
