Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
We aimed to reveal the value of serum CPK and LDH levels in he early diagnosis of testicular tortion in this study. 15 adult male New Zealand rabbits were divided into 2 groups. The first group included 7 animals that experienced sham operation and approved as control animals. In the second group (n=8), the left testes were just twisted 720 degrees and fixed by a transmesorchial suture like Ryan described. Blood samples were obtained by venapuncture at 0, 4, 8, 24 hours and 4 weeks in each group; creatine phosphokinase (CPK) and lactate de-hydrogenase (LDH) were determined. There was slight …

Limiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions Through Emissions Trading: An Interim Report, Richard Parker
Faculty Articles and Papers
The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment has gathered a prominent group of policy analysts to consider how the United States might implement its Kyoto commitment, using tradable permits in tandem with other methods. The draft report of the group, entitled Limiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions Through Emissions Trading: Interim Report, examines four policy options. This Memorandum considers whether any of these options appear likely to conflict with United States international trade obligations under the newly established Uruguay Round Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (‘WTO Agreement’).
This summary outlines the relevant law and summarizes my …

Gratis Dictum! The Limits Of Academic Free Speech On The Internet, Ray August
Gratis Dictum! The Limits Of Academic Free Speech On The Internet, Ray August
University of Florida Journal of Law & Public Policy
This article is about the right of university professors to exercise their academic freedom to speak out and to teach in a new forum: the Internet. Although the Internet is a new forum, this article will attempt to show that the same basic rights and duties that apply to professors in the classroom and in the academic media apply to professors speaking out on the Internet. Part I sets the stage with a very brief history of the Internet. Part II examines the principal cases dealing with academic free speech as they relate to the Internet. Most of these cases …

Speaking Freely About Reducing Violence Against Women: A Harm Reduction Strategy From The Law And Social Science Of Pornography, Michelle Chernikoff Anderson
Speaking Freely About Reducing Violence Against Women: A Harm Reduction Strategy From The Law And Social Science Of Pornography, Michelle Chernikoff Anderson
University of Florida Journal of Law & Public Policy
This article exposes legal scholars to the research essential to establishing support for an education policy that would inoculate our children against the potentially harmful effects of consuming media that promote violence against girls and women. It argues that Dworkin-MacKinnonites, concerned about pornography, and civil libertarians, concerned about free speech, should waste neither more time nor more ink debating this issue. Rather, it is time to dedicate our efforts to creating and implementing a harm reduction educational approach to protect our children against pornography.
Part II defines the terminology used throughout the article. Part III outlines the failures of current …

Feminism And Defending Men On Death Row, Phyllis L. Crocker
Feminism And Defending Men On Death Row, Phyllis L. Crocker
Law Faculty Articles and Essays
In this Essay I explore the relationship between being a feminist and representing men on death row. It is appropriate to engage in this inquiry in considering how the law has developed in the twenty-five years since Furman v. Georgia. During that time both Furman and the advent of feminist legal theory have required a restructuring in the way we think about two fundamental legal questions: for death penalty jurisprudence, how and why we sentence an individual to death; and for feminist jurisprudence, how the law views crimes of violence against women. The relationship between these two developments becomes apparent …
Origins And Scope Of The American Moral Obligation Principle , Kevin M. Teeven
Origins And Scope Of The American Moral Obligation Principle , Kevin M. Teeven
Cleveland State Law Review
The existence of the moral obligation principle in American case law has been recognized in the Restatement (Second) of Contracts section 86 (1): "A promise made in recognition of a benefit previously received by the promisor from the promisee is binding to the extent necessary to prevent injustice." Among common law countries, American jurisdictions are unique in recognizing this ameliorating doctrine. An analysis of the development and scope of this doctrine is buried in the centuries of case law surrounding the tension between the past consideration rule and the moral obligation principle. The intent of this study is to glean …
The Justice Who Wouldn't Be Lutheran: Toward Borrowing The Wisdom Of Faith Traditions, Marie A. Failinger
The Justice Who Wouldn't Be Lutheran: Toward Borrowing The Wisdom Of Faith Traditions, Marie A. Failinger
Cleveland State Law Review
Only a few legal scholars have attempted to work out what jurisprudence might look like if lawmakers and judges took their religious world-views seriously-and explicitly-in their work, in a way respectful of "the fact of pluralism." My task is to imagine the concrete case: what a judge's jurisprudence might look like if a judge considered the wisdom of his own religious tradition in constitutional cases. This article explores broad jurisprudential themes and specific First Amendment and social welfare opinions of Justice William Rehnquist, who for some years has been a member of a Lutheran congregation, my own denomination. While Justice …

The project contains a high school supplementary computer curriculum centered on the acquisition of the Spanish language and understanding of the culture. The review of the literature indicates that the computer can be an effective medium with which to facilitate cooperative or collaborative learning and individualized instruction. In addition, technology provides an opportunity for peer tutoring and can instill a desire to learn. The project activities were designed around communicative, cultural, or structural goals that were identified in one or more of the three lessons located in each unit of the Dime Uno textbook. The supplementary computer curriculum was developed …
Multiple Intelligence Motivational Activities Using Literature For Kindergarten And First Grade Students, Heidi Jo Ann Otis
Multiple Intelligence Motivational Activities Using Literature For Kindergarten And First Grade Students, Heidi Jo Ann Otis
All Graduate Projects
The purpose of this project was to identify a set of multiple intelligence activities that foster motivation for reading. These activities were to accompany specific pieces of children's literature. Children who are motivated and spend more time reading become better readers (Gambrell, 1996). The central element for this project was to develop activities for children's literature using Gardner's multiple intelligence theory. Gardner lists those seven intelligences as: Linguistic, logical/mathematical, spatial, music, kinesthetic/body, interpersonal and intrapersonal (Gardner, 1983). By giving young children a variety of intellectual modalities associated with children's literature it was hoped that all students would develop an early …

The literature review also indicated the need for schools to teach study skills to better prepare students for the future.
Enhancing Student Learning Through Brain-Based Learning Techniques: A Handbook For Educators, Cynthia Gail Mcfarland
Enhancing Student Learning Through Brain-Based Learning Techniques: A Handbook For Educators, Cynthia Gail Mcfarland
All Graduate Projects
The significance of utilizing a brain-based approach to learning and teaching was researched. Current brain research indicates that often traditional educational methods are not conducive or are even detrimental to student learning. Several sources supported the brain-based learning, multiple intelligence, and learning styles theories. The research suggested that the brain-based learning approach has been beneficial not only to student learning but also to an increase in student motivation and self-esteem. A handbook for educators was created to compliment existing curriculum. This handbook features "brain friendly" strategies and activities that focus on rich and positive learning experiences that enable students to …
