Assessment Of Nonverbal Cognitive Processes In Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Jacqueline J. Head
Assessment Of Nonverbal Cognitive Processes In Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Jacqueline J. Head
Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program
This study reviewed the literature on ADHD/ADD including a survey of the disorder, current clinical interventions and, diagnostic techniques. Data was collected comparing three groups of children (control, ADHD, ADD) on a newly developed nonverbal assessment test, the Leiter-R. The findings show that the Leiter-R resulted in significant differences in scores between the control group and the ADHD and ADD groups on twelve of the twenty subtests. This demonstrates the efficacy of the Leiter-R as an assessment tool for ADHD and ADD. Based on these findings the following tentative recommendations were proposed to assist children with ADHD and ADD. Children …

The Dynamics Of Democracy: Travel, Premature Predation, And The Components Of Political Identity, Nicholas S. Zeppos
The Dynamics Of Democracy: Travel, Premature Predation, And The Components Of Political Identity, Nicholas S. Zeppos
Vanderbilt Law Review
Democracy is indeed an elusive concept and any effort to develop the constituent elements of so important a political idea ought to be encouraged. From any number of perspectives it is clear that democracy must include more than simply ratifying the outcomes of either citizen or representative voting., And when a court is asked to set aside the results of a process some describe as democratic, the challenge to enrich the concept becomes even more pressing, particularly when the judicial power is invoked in the name of enhancing democracy. The Supreme Court's decision in Romer v. Evan dramatically poses the …

Introduction: The Democratic Judge, Michael J. Gerhardt
Introduction: The Democratic Judge, Michael J. Gerhardt
Vanderbilt Law Review
It is a special privilege for me to return to this great law school to honor one of its greatest graduates. Each time I return to Nashville, it feels like a homecoming. Each time I return, I also feel that as I am getting older, Judge Merritt is getting younger. The last time I was here, he got married; and the time before that, we squared off for the umpteenth time on a tennis court. He also Writes more opinions, gives more speeches, and has taken more of a leadership role in protecting the interests of the federal judiciary than …

Reversion Rates In A Leub Auxotroph Of Escherichia Coli K-12 Correlate With Ppgpp Levels During Exponential Growth, Barbara E. Wright, Michael F. Minnick
Reversion Rates In A Leub Auxotroph Of Escherichia Coli K-12 Correlate With Ppgpp Levels During Exponential Growth, Barbara E. Wright, Michael F. Minnick
Biological Sciences Faculty Publications
Two isogenic strains of Escherichia coli K-12 differing only in relA, as well as two spoT transductants of the relA- strain, were examined with respect to ppGpp levels and reversion rates of a leuB- allele under nine different conditions. A positive correlation was established between reversion rates and the steady-state concentration of ppGpp during exponential growth. The leuB genes from two leuB- strains (isogenic except for relA) were cloned and sequenced and found to contain a single mutation, namely, a C-to-T transition at nucleotide 857. This mutation resulted in a serine-to-leucine substitution at amino acid residue 286 of the LeuB …
Aboveground Production In Southeastern Floodplain Forests: A Test Of The Subsidy-Stress Hypothesis, William Conner, J Patrick Megonigal, Steven Kroeger, Rebecca R. Sharitz
Aboveground Production In Southeastern Floodplain Forests: A Test Of The Subsidy-Stress Hypothesis, William Conner, J Patrick Megonigal, Steven Kroeger, Rebecca R. Sharitz
Publications
It has been hypothesized that periodically flooded forests have higher rates of aboveground net primary production than upland forests and near-continuously flooded forests, but a competing hypothesis holds that the benefits of periodic inputs of nutrients and water may be diminished by stresses associated with anaerobic soils or drought. To test these hypotheses, we measured groundwater table depths and aboveground productivity in floodplain forests of South Carolina and Louisiana. We established paired plots on locally dry, intermediate, and wet topographic positions across three hydrologic transects in each state. These plots encompassed upland hardwood, bottomland hardwood, and cypress swamp forests. Measurements …

Wetland Loss In The Northern Gulf Of Mexico: Multiple Working Hypotheses, R. Eugene Turner
Wetland Loss In The Northern Gulf Of Mexico: Multiple Working Hypotheses, R. Eugene Turner
Faculty Publications
I examined four hypotheses about causes for the dramatically high coastal wetland losses (0.86% yr−1) in the northern Gulf of Mexico: an extensive dredged canal and spoil bank network, a decline in sediments in the Mississippi River during the 1950s, Mississippi River navigation and flood protection levees, and salinity changes. Natural factors contributing to these habitat changes include eustatic sea-level rise and geological compaction, which appear to have remained relatively constant this century, although variation does occur. These four hypotheses were tested using data on land-to-water changes in 15-min quadrangle maps inventoried for four intervals between the 1930s and 1990. …
