A Phenomenological Inquiry Of Nurse Transition To Family-Centered Perinatal Nursing, Paula Kaye Lilja Dnsc, Msn, Rn

Dissertations

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to obtain a better understanding of how nurses caring for perinatal patients and their families view their clinical practice role after experiencing the transition from traditional maternity care to family-centered perinatal nursing. The volunteer participants in the study were 13 female registered nurses employed on a family-centered perinatal unit in one of four hospital settings. The researcher conducted unstructured interviews with the participants and analyzed the qualitative data. The history of the transition and the context in which the family-centered perinatal nursing model was being practiced are presented. Two major features of the …

A sample of 22 subjects were obtained from three different counties in a southeastern state. Physiological measurements (blood pressure and heart rate readings) were the variables used to measure stress. Descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized to examine demographics, as well as the variables under study. The Economic And Fiscal Impact Of Lake Remediation On Onondaga County, William Duncombe, Shannon Felt, James R. Follain, Bernard Jump Jr. Aug 1997

The Economic And Fiscal Impact Of Lake Remediation On Onondaga County, William Duncombe, Shannon Felt, James R. Follain, Bernard Jump Jr.

Center for Policy Research

This is the fourth and final report to the Onondaga Lake Management Conference about the economic and fiscal implications for Onondaga County of court-mandated expenditures for sewer-related remediation of Onondaga Lake. Exactly how much remediation will cost and what, precisely, will be the technical specifications of the plan that is finally approved by the court are both still to be decided. Yet, there is little doubt that an undertaking of the dollar magnitude contemplated for lake remediation has the potential to affect the fiscal condition of the county and the future health of the local economy.

Intergenerational Service Topic Bibliography, Robin Vue Benson, Robert D. Shumer, Madeleine S. Hengel, Craig Hollander

Bibliographies

America is changing. More of our citizens are moving into the "senior" portions of their lives. Within twenty years, a significant segment of our population will be retired or nearing retirement. With this retirement comes a tendency to live in retirement communities, separated from mainstream society. At the same time, our youth are experiencing greater isolation from adult life and from interaction with older individuals. Because of our mobile population, many children grow up today without regular contact with a grandparent or an older adult.

This scenario suggests that there is perhaps no greater need in our society than to …

Strategic Planning And The Drug Threat, William W. Mendel Col (Ret), Murl D. Munger Col (Ret)

Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies

The primary purpose of this publication is to show how the principles and techniques of strategic and operational planning can be applied to the supply reduction side of our national effort to curb the trafficking of illicit drugs. An earlier version was published in 1991 which introduced campaign planning methodology as a means to help bridge the gap existing between the policy and strategy documents of higher echelons and the tactical plans developed at the field level. These campaign planning principles, formats, and examples of operational level techniques have been retained and updated for use as models for current interagency …

Legislating Market Winners: Digital Signature Laws And The Electronic Commerce Marketplace, C. Bradford Biddle Aug 1997

Legislating Market Winners: Digital Signature Laws And The Electronic Commerce Marketplace, C. Bradford Biddle

San Diego Law Review

The author argues that certain enacted digital signature laws are premised upon false assumptions, and inappropriately enshrine a business model which would not naturally evolve in the marketplace. In attempting to solve an unsolvable liability allocation problem, such legislation harms consumers and the future evolution of electronic commerce. This article points out that alternative business models can solve the liability allocation problem. Despite obvious flaws, legislation of this kind continues to be proposed, partly because the infrastructure created by these laws coincides with the needs of key escrow proponents. Ultimately the article argues that digital signature laws, which impose a …

Privacy And Encryption In Cyberspace: First Amendment Challenges To Itar, Ear And Their Successors, Ryan Alan Murr

San Diego Law Review

This Comment discusses the need for privacy over the Internet and looks at the constitutional validity of previous and current regulations governing the export of privacy-enabling technologies, such as PGP and other powerful ciphers that allow users to protect the privacy of data transmitted over the Internet. In particular, the article seeks to analyze the constitutionality of the current regulatory scheme in light of the competing interests of privacy and freedom of expression on the one hand, and the need to protect national security on the other.
