Exercise During Pregnancy, Sue Merkel Jan 1997

Exercise During Pregnancy, Sue Merkel

Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects

Physical fitness and sports participation has increased in popularity over the years. This raises concerns as to whether exercising while pregnant is beneficial or harmful to the mother and her unborn child. Research has determined the maternal and fetal responses during various forms of exercise. This research has been used to help establish guidelines and recommendations for pregnant women. However, there continues to be controversy as to the exercise guidelines pregnant females need to follow. Women experience physical changes throughout their pregnancy which can lead to low back pain, abdominal or pelvic floor dysfunctions. These complications can be prevented or …

Child Abuse And Juvenile Delinquency: A Review Of The Literature, Charlotte Center Anthony Jan 1997

Child Abuse And Juvenile Delinquency: A Review Of The Literature, Charlotte Center Anthony

Theses Digitization Project

There seems to be common agreement among practitioners and researchers in Criminal Justice that youth who are abused often become participants in the juvenile justice system. The current literature finds considerable evidence to support this position. However, some questions concerning the relationship between child abuse and juvenile delinquency remain. Specifically, how direct, or casual, is the link between the two? Are different groups of youth, such as Hispanic famales uniquely affected?

Status Attainment Among Children Of Single Mothers: The Roles Of Parenting And Economics, Sarah Barfels Jan 1997

Status Attainment Among Children Of Single Mothers: The Roles Of Parenting And Economics, Sarah Barfels

Honors Papers

My analysis adds to the literature on single motherhood by trying to refine a structural equations model to use to examine the causal importance and relationships between economics and parenting in single mother families and the effect on intergenerational attainment. This work also utilizes the relatively new longitudinal data from the second wave of the National Survey of Families and Households which includes more comprehensive (measuring participation in school activities and adding indexes to previously single indicator concepts) measures of parenting practices (Thomson, Hanson, and McLahanan 1994; Astone and McLanahan 1991). Further, the role of these and economic factors are …

Akron Tax Journal

This article, first, explains the Gilmore origin of claim test. Secondly, the extension of the origin of claim to situations where the legal claim is less clearly connected to the taxpayer's business or income-seeking activities will be discussed. Thirdly, this article will analyze the issue of how a criminal prosecution, particularly for a murder in a situation such as Mr. Simpson's, can be connected to business or income-seeking. Fourthly, the issue of whether any government policy would prevent the deduction, especially for an unsuccessful criminal defendant, will be reviewed Fifthly, prior murder cases in which the defendant was not allowed …
