Joint Mobilization For The Lower Extremity, Michelle C. Robert
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
In the field of physical therapy there are a number of therapeutic techniques used for evaluation and treatment of dysfunction. There is one technique that is seen especially jn the orthopedic setting and has been around since ancient Egyptian times. 1,2 This technique is joint mobilization and even though there are limited studies on its usefulness, it can not be ignored as a treatment technique. Due to the complexity of the techniques, students often need additional resource materials to assist in the learning process.
Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to introduce theoretical background, terminology, and an explanation of …

Recognizing Gender Differences: A Comparative Analysis Of Two Substance Abuse Treatment Programs, Judyth Lynne Scott, Linda Diane Pettine
Theses Digitization Project
This study explored the treatment of women's substance abuse from a critical theory perspective. The literature indicates that, within substance abuse treatment programs and in the research world, few treatment programs are sensitive to women's specific needs.

To Resuscitate Or Not ... In The Operating Room: The Need For Hospital Policies For Surgeons Regarding Dnr Orders, Vassyl A. Lonchyna
To Resuscitate Or Not ... In The Operating Room: The Need For Hospital Policies For Surgeons Regarding Dnr Orders, Vassyl A. Lonchyna
Annals of Health Law and Life Sciences
As more Americans have become aware of end-of-life planning, health care professionals are faced with more "Do Not Resuscitate" orders. A patient with a terminal condition who has signed such an order may enter the operating room for a surgical procedure; few hospitals have developed protocols to assist the medical staff. In most hospitals, it is unclear whether the medical staff should honor the "DNR" or follow the traditional resuscitation protocol of the operating room.

G97-1324 Beef Cattle Implant Update, Dicky D. Griffin, Terry L. Mader
G97-1324 Beef Cattle Implant Update, Dicky D. Griffin, Terry L. Mader
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide discusses the mechanism of action and use strategies for growth promoting implants, including expected responses and cost analysis.
Introduction
Growth promoting implants have been used extensively in beef production for over 30 years. Significant changes in implants and implanting strategies have occurred. Prior to 1987, available implants were estrogenic agents which metabolically enhanced nutrient use to enhance growth. These products improved feed efficiency 5-10 percent and daily gains from 5-15 percent. In 1987, the androgenic (tissue building) agent, trenbolone acetate, was approved for use in growth promoting implants. This compound had an additive effect with existing estrogenic implants. …

In Vivo Incorporation Of Tritium To Measure Lipogenesis In Red Skeletal Muscle: Significance Of A Nonlipogenic Diet In La/N-Fa(K)("Corpulent") And Zucker Fa Rat Strains, Karin Traci Mann
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Skeletal muscle lipogenesis in rodents may equal that of liver but its importance in the obese animals is not known. We evaluated the rate of fatty acid and triglyceride synthesis and storage content in red skeletal muscles, liver, inguinal fat, and retroperitoneal fat of the LA/N-fak (“corpulent”) and Zucker fa obese rat strains. Obese-lean pairs of both rat strains, weaned at 32 days, fed a nonlipogenic diet (54% starch for 21 days) were either dosed with 2 µCi 3H-H2 O per gram of body weight and tested after 60 minutes for whole body 3H-incorporation into fatty acids and …
Detection Of Nitrate-N And Triazine Herbicides In Groundwater And Surface Water Of An Agricultural Watershed In Western Kentucky, John Potts, Larry Reber
Detection Of Nitrate-N And Triazine Herbicides In Groundwater And Surface Water Of An Agricultural Watershed In Western Kentucky, John Potts, Larry Reber
Soil Science News and Views
The quality of water in Kentucky's agricultural watersheds has received considerable attention in recent years. The main concerns in com production areas usually center on content of nitrogen (N) from commercial fertilizer and triazines from herbicide applications in water. Although N can be found naturally in Kentucky soils, it can't supply all the N that com needs to produce optimum yields. Therefore, fertilizer N is added to ensure ample nutrition. Triazine herbicides, on the other hand, do not occur naturally in the soil but are applied to the soil to effectively control weeds. Most commonly, these herbicides are applied at …

Harry F. Harlow And Animal Research: Reflection On The Ethical Paradox, John P. Gluck
Harry F. Harlow And Animal Research: Reflection On The Ethical Paradox, John P. Gluck
Experimentation Collection
With respect to the ethical debate about the treatment of animals in biomedical and behavioral research, Harry F. Harlow represents a paradox. On the one hand, his work on monkey cognition and social development fostered a view of the animals as having rich subjective lives filled with intention and emotion. On the other, he has been criticized for the conduct of research that seemed to ignore the ethical implications of his own discoveries. The basis of this contradiction is discussed and propositions for current research practice are presented.

A Scientific Conception Of Animal Welfare That Reflects Ethical Concerns, D. Fraser, D. M. Weary, E. A. Pajor, B. N. Milligan
Ethics and Animal Welfare Collection
Scientific research on 'animal welfare' began because of ethical concerns over the quality of life of animals, and the public looks to animal welfare research for guidance regarding these concerns. The conception of animal welfare used by scientists must relate closely to these ethical concerns if the orientation of the research and the interpretation of the findings is to address them successfully.
At least three overlapping ethical concerns are commonly expressed regarding the quality of life of animals: (1) that animals should lead natural lives through the development and use of their natural adaptations and capabilities, (2) that animals should …

Utilizing Leafy Spurge As Haylage For Sheep, Scott Kronberg, Lowell Slyter
Utilizing Leafy Spurge As Haylage For Sheep, Scott Kronberg, Lowell Slyter
South Dakota Sheep Field Day Proceedings and Research Reports, 1997
It is well recognized that sheep will graze the noxious weed leafy spurge and at least one sheep producer (Don Genre near Towner, ND) feeds large quantities of leafy spurge hay to sheep. We conducted a small trial to determine how well sheep would consume leafy spurge haylage, and how productive they were while consuming it.
