The Workplace Of The Future: The 9 To 5 Office Is Dead, Terry Ann Rooney Jan 1997

The Workplace Of The Future: The 9 To 5 Office Is Dead, Terry Ann Rooney

Theses

The Workplace of the Future: The 9 to 5 Office is Dead by Terry Ann Rooney, explores the shift away from traditional work schedules in favor of more flexible arrangements. Rooney argues that businesses must adapt to evolving workforce expectations by embracing alternative work schedules such as telecommuting, flex-time, job sharing, and compressed workweeks.

The research highlights demographic shifts, particularly the increasing presence of women and minority workers, which necessitate greater workplace flexibility. The document outlines the advantages of these work models, including increased employee productivity, job satisfaction, and retention, as well as reduced absenteeism and operational costs for employers. …

"Quick Tips": A Manual For Not-For-Profit Organizations, Mary Brooks Jan 1997

"Quick Tips": A Manual For Not-For-Profit Organizations, Mary Brooks

Theses

This thesis will focus on the study of volunteerism within a not-for-profit organization. Meeting the growing demand for volunteers and controlling then high turnover could determine how smoothly a nonprofit organization runs.

In the past the need for volunteers and nonprofit organizations was not as great as it is today. There are at least two reasons for this upward trend. The first reason is more women are working outside the home leaving less leisure time for volunteering. The second reason is the government is playing a smaller role thus causing the public to seek help elsewhere.

Research has attributed the …

Marketing Lindenwood University Through A Promotional Video, Deidamia Batista, Karen Cordoba

Theses

In recent times video productions have been used as an effective sales tool. Moving pictures, like those that video provides. are an effective way to communicate in a quickly growing business market. With a video a company is able to reach and approach clients more effectively, because they can present information which is attractive to people.

We have seen over the last decade that the use of technology has invaded every market, including the education market. It is common to see how the business community within the education center has been quick to embrace video for many different purposes-one of …

Multimedia At Mcdonnell Douglass Corporation & Possible Future Implications, Robert L. Williams

Theses

This thesis will focus on the study of multimedia at The Boeing Company in St. Louis, Missouri and on the corporate world as a whole.

Multimedia is for real. Though the contemporary hype exceeds the current level of real development activity, multimedia is properly billed as the next major dimension of computing.

Multimedia will promote a monumental clash of cultures between the software engineering and media production organizations within the corporate communications departments of major corporations. The convergence of media that is the very essence of what is being described as multimedia will spawn one of the great professional culture …

The New American Family, And A New Generation Of Young Americans Entering The Workforce, Flo A. Kistner

Theses

This thesis focuses on the dysfunction of a significant proportion of America's youth and shows how it can be attributed directly to lack of parental presence or parental control. Today's youth are in total chaos. Research shows there is a definite lack of quality time with today's children from their parents. This lack of parental involvement plays a crucial role in the development or lack of development of today's youth and tomorrow's workers.

The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in the structure of the American family, and the resulting need for management to assume a more …

Reading Together: California Campuses And Communities Connect Through America Reads, America Reads

Project Summaries

Reading Together provides an in-depth look at how America Reads is working in California. It describes how America Reads operates in schools and communities and offers insight into what makes for strikingly successful programs.

As the data and case studies show, America Reads programs are doing great things throughout this state. Since the spring of 1998, more than 9,300 California college students have worked as America Reads tutors in more than 900 schools. Because of America Reads, almost 25,000 California elementary school children have so far received the extra help they need to learn to read and their numbers will …

Groundwater Nitrate Removal In Forested And Suburban Vegetated Riparian Wetland Soils: A Mesocosm Mass Balance Approach, Kelly L. Addy Jan 1997

Groundwater Nitrate Removal In Forested And Suburban Vegetated Riparian Wetland Soils: A Mesocosm Mass Balance Approach, Kelly L. Addy

Open Access Master's Theses

Although riparian zones can remove nitrate (NO3) from groundwater, the interaction between vegetation type, subsurface patches of elevated organic matter and NO3 removal rates is still uncertain. The goal of my study was to examine the effects of vegetation type on groundwater NO3 removal rates in poorly drained riparian subsoils with four treatments, two "forested" and two "suburban" treatments. I also examined the variability in NO3removal rates between riparian sites and the relationship between patches of elevated organic matter in the subsoil and groundwater NO3 removal rates. My study was based on a …

Ellipsometric And Raman Spectroscopic Study Of Thermally Formed Films On Titanium, E. Hristova, Lj. Arsov, Branko N. Popov, Ralph E. White Jan 1997

Ellipsometric And Raman Spectroscopic Study Of Thermally Formed Films On Titanium, E. Hristova, Lj. Arsov, Branko N. Popov, Ralph E. White

Faculty Publications

Thermal films on titanium surfaces were formed by heating titanium samples in air at atmospheric pressure. The optical constants, thickness, and structure of the formed films at various temperatures and times of heating were investigated by ellipsometry and Raman spectroscopy. The complex index of refraction and the thickness of generated films were determined by comparing the experimental loci and obtained by ellipsometric measurements with theoretical computed vs. curves. It was found that the thickness in homogeneity and porosity of formed films increase with increasing temperature and the duration of the thermal treatment. Beyond a certain critical temperature, the appearance of …

The Effects Of Organic Compounds On Inhibition Of Hydrogen Permeation Through A Mild Steel Membrane, H. A. Duarte, D. M. See, Branko N. Popov, Ralph E. White Jan 1997

The Effects Of Organic Compounds On Inhibition Of Hydrogen Permeation Through A Mild Steel Membrane, H. A. Duarte, D. M. See, Branko N. Popov, Ralph E. White

Faculty Publications

The effectiveness of 5-(4-pyridyl)-2,7-nonadiene, and 1 phenyl-2-propyn-ol (PP) on inhibition of the hydrogen evolution reaction on a 1010 steel membrane and on the degree of hydrogen ingress into the membrane was determined. Hydrogen evolution rates and permeation currents were monitored as a function of time at different applied potentials. In the presence of 0.5 g/liter PP in the electrolyte, the hydrogen discharge and permeation current density were inhibited by 98 and95%, respectively.

Germany's Newest Aliens: The East Germans, Peter O'Brien Jan 1997

Germany's Newest Aliens: The East Germans, Peter O'Brien

Political Science Faculty Research

Before 1989, Germans used the term "Wende " (the tum) to refer to the transition from the Schmidt to the Kohl government in 1981-82. This meaning disappeared overnight between November 9 and 10, 1989. The real Wende became the revolution in the GDR and the subsequent unification of the two Germanys. Doubtless this shift in meaning was justified. By October 1990, Germany had experienced far more than a change in political leadership. It now had new expanded borders, 17 million new citizens, and a mountain of challenges to overcome.

The Challenge Of Adolescent Health: Views From Catholic Social Teaching And The Social And Medical Sciences, Brenda Wixson Donnelly, Dennis M. Doyle, Una M. Cadegan, Teresa L. Thompson, Patricia Voydanoff, Joan Mcguinness Wagner

History Faculty Publications

This book provides a multidisciplinary examination of the complex social issues surrounding adolescent health and health care delivery. It draws specifically on the resources of Catholic social teaching, presents an overview of the medical problems common among young people, and explores the social and familial contexts in which these problems arise. It provides a framework within which to view the conditions limiting the health and well-being of adolescents and to understand the resultant deterioration of the physical and mental health of adolescents in this country.

The insights gained from Catholic moral teaching are included with those of social science and …
