Responding To Drought: Common Threads From The Past, Visions For The Future, Donald A. Wilhite
Responding To Drought: Common Threads From The Past, Visions For The Future, Donald A. Wilhite
National Drought Mitigation Center: Faculty Publications
A number of studies conducted since the late 1970s have evaluated state and federal responses to drought in the United States. Each of these studies identified a number of key issues and impedi-ments that needed to be addressed to improve the nation’s ability to cope with and prepare for future episodes of drought. A content analysis of these studies was performed to identify common threads in their recommendations. The premise of this analysis was that the series of drought years that oc-curred between 1986 and 1992 and recurred between 1994 and 1996 increased awareness of our na-tion’s continuing and apparent …

A Hypermedia Field Trip Through Old Town Temecula, Vivian Terese Burke-Scheuerell
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this project was to develop a computer-based instructional material for Temecula third grade teachers to use with their history/social science curriculum. What evolved was a stack about Old Town Temecula that supports the Framework, an integration of technology into the history/social science curriculum. The project connects the past and present by focusing on the historical buildings in Old Town Temecula. As an instructional tool the stack provides teachers with the pre field trip materials and follow-up activities to use when doing a field trip to Old Town Temecula.

Orphanages In America: Are They Needed?, Cara Lynn Hans, Lawrence Payne
Theses Digitization Project
The purpose of this constructivist research study was to examine the idea of returning to the orphanage system, as a placement option for children who have been removed from their homes. The authors felt that this was especially important since lawmakers have been discussing this option as an answer to the question of welfare reform, and further felt that decisions such as these should not be made without the input of professionals in the social work field.

A Visit To Cyberspace Mall: Who Owns A Web Site Address?, Julie W. Meder
A Visit To Cyberspace Mall: Who Owns A Web Site Address?, Julie W. Meder
Duquesne Law Review
The location of a business or other entity on the Internet (its cyberspace address) is identified by its domain name. Many businesses seek to use readily recognizable names as domain names so that potential visitors can quickly locate their web sites. Because a single domain name can identify only one web site, trademark owners and web site owners have clashed over who owns the rights to a particular domain name. The status of these clashes as of January 1997 and possible solutions to the problem considered by that date are reviewed.
