Technical Challenges In Multiple Master Font Design With Extreme Form Change, Thomas Phinney
Technical Challenges In Multiple Master Font Design With Extreme Form Change, Thomas Phinney
Theses
The hypothesis was that it is possible to create a unique PostScript Multiple Master font which makes a relatively smooth transition between serifed roman and italic letterforms. In the process of creating such a font, the author discovered new principles of Multiple Master font construction and new methodologies for ensuring smooth transitions. The methodology was to first construct a prototype, in order to explore the complications of such a project; the prototype metamorphosed between the roman and italic forms of the Adobe typeface Minion. For the actual project, roman and italic extremes were newly designed, loosely based on historical models …

Fcc Reform: Governing Requires A New Standard, William H. Read, Ronald Alan Weiner
Federal Communications Law Journal
Perhaps one of the most crucial questions legislators need to address after passing the 1996 Act is the reform of the Federal Communications Commission. Some suggest that the Commission should be abolished altogether, while others recommend merely curtailing some of the Commission's responsibilities. However, true reform of the FCC recognizes that the Commission still has a vital role to play in the shaping of the telecommunications industry. Instead of dismantling the FCC altogether, Congress should redefine the public interest standard under which the FCC operates. The 1934 Communications Act charged the Federal Communications Commission with protecting "the public interest." While …

Pseudosclerotia were evaluated for differences in timing of apothecium development in four controlled experiments conducted over a 2-year period. In a separate experiment, conidia from 10 randomly selected isolates from both of the fungal populations were used to inoculate open flowers. Germination of pseudosclerotia produced from these artificial inoculations also was evaluated. The timing and rate of shoot elongation for cvs. Weymouth and Jersey were assessed in one greenhouse and two field experiments. Average development times for the fungal population from cv. Weymouth were 8 to 15 days earlier or 33 to 42% less than those for the population from …

The Effect Of A Reduction/Oxidation Filter On Pilot Plant Effluent, Matthew R. Mcnamara
The Effect Of A Reduction/Oxidation Filter On Pilot Plant Effluent, Matthew R. Mcnamara
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
This project was concerned with the effects of a reduction/oxidation filter on water quality in Western Michigan University's Pilot Paper Plant. The filter was installed after the clarifier in the pilot deinking system. In other applications the filter has been found to remove heavy metals, chlorine, and also reduce the amount of scaling in a system. This application of the filter showed inconsistant results with no definite beneficial trends.
