Assessment Of The Discriminative Properties Of A Selective D3 Antagonist, Mary-Jo E. Miller
Masters Theses
Two groups of male Sprague-Dawley rats (n= 16) were used in a drug discrimination assay to assess the stimulus properties of PNU-99194A, currently the most selective D3 dopamine antagonist. Eight rats were trained to discriminate cocaine-HCL (10 mg/kg) from saline and remaining eight rats were trained to discriminate PNU-99194A-HCL (10 mg/kg) from saline. PNU-99194A was tested for substitution (0-40 mg/kg, i.p and s.c.),. antagonism (5-20 mg/kg), and potentiation (5-20 mg/kg) in the animals trained with cocaine. PNU-99194A did not substitute for cocaine at any dose tested. PNU-99194A did not alter cocaine discrimination when administered in combination with the training …

Women Drummers: Embracing A Tradition And Moving Forward With Change, Natalie Wagner
Women Drummers: Embracing A Tradition And Moving Forward With Change, Natalie Wagner
African Diaspora ISPs
The aim of this paper is to determine whether or not female drummers are becoming a part of the tradition of drumming in Ghana. Much of the focus lies on the pioneer women's group in Ghana, the Aboase Dadziemba Mmensoun Cultural Group. It looks at the role they've played in liberating the women of Ghana and revitalizing a change in the traditional realm of drumming. The research touches on the definition of tradition: how it can embody change and still remain traditional. It looks at the institution of drumming in Ghana and evaluates the ever changing role of women within …

International Service Learning & Community Engagement
It is clear that a network of international service learning is in its formative stage, the authors point out. We must not allow the politics of service programs in the U.S. to blind us to the opportunities in other parts of the world that will enable us to advance the theory and ideology of service learning.

Sociological Paradigms And Civilizational Studies: Complementary Contributions Of E. A. Ross And P. S. Sorokin, Lawrence T. Nichols
Sociological Paradigms And Civilizational Studies: Complementary Contributions Of E. A. Ross And P. S. Sorokin, Lawrence T. Nichols
Comparative Civilizations Review
This paper argues that the theories of Edward A. Ross and Pitirim A. Sorokin have more in common than is generally realized and documents unrecognized reciprocal influences between the two scholars. Ross developed a social-psychological reading of history emphasizing externally induced change; while Sorokin championed a cultural interpretation grounded in the concepts of immanent causation and the principle of limits. Closer examination, however, shows that Sorokin’s theory of creative altruism resembles Ross’s linear evolutionism. The complementary emphases of the paradigms are consistent with the contexts in which the theorists trained: Ross expresses youthful American optimism while Sorokin articulates the stoicism …

Physical Therapy Faculty Research and Publications
Athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals stress the importance of proprioceptive reeducation during the rehabilitation process following an injury." 2 It is believed that an injury such as an inversion ankle sprain, for example, results in a reduction of proprioceptive function that may lead to future reinjuries. 3 One suggested palliative method to supplement a deficit in proprioceptive function at the ankle is the use of external support such as taping and braces.47 The tape or brace is believed to provide increased mechanical support as well as increased proprioception.

The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) (now the U.S. Department of Energy), in testing the safety of nuclear weapons under many different conditions, detonated single plutonium bearing devices in such a fashion as to simulate an unintentional detonation of the high-explosive portion of nuclear weapons. This resulted in the uncontained spread of plutonium and other radionuclides, such as americium and depleted uranium, in the environment in the vicinity of these experiments. The Double Tracks site was one of these experiments on the Tonopah Test Range (TTR) which was contaminated hi excess of 200 picocuries per gram (pCi/g). The Double Tracks …

Temporal Flocking And Cacophony Simulating Agent Communication In A Noisy Environment, Jessica R. Crawford
Temporal Flocking And Cacophony Simulating Agent Communication In A Noisy Environment, Jessica R. Crawford
Honors Theses
Realistic communication is one of the most difficult aspects of simulating group behavior because the patterns produced by group communication are complex and not easily definable. In this paper, we present a model, developed using artificial life methodology, for creating simulations of group communication. Our model employs autonomous, artificial agents to produce emergent group behavior that resembles the communication patterns of a group, specifically, a flock of birds. Each agent collects information about its environment and its neighbors and follows a set of rules designed to meet both group goals and individual agent goals. Because we seek to establish emergent …
