Monoclonal Antibody Assay And Kit For Detecting Metal Cations In Body Fluids (Continuation), Randall R. Carlson, Jay S. Stout, Dwane E. Wylie, Fred W. Wagner, Malcolm Riddell
Biological Process Development Facility: Staff Publications
The invention provides method and kits for detecting a metallic cation in a sample of a body fluid. The preferred method and kits include the use of at least two different types of antibodies having different specificities. In the preferred method, the sample of body fluid can be contacted with an effective amount of a capture antibody specific for a naturally occurring polypeptide that can bind the metallic cation to form a first antigen-antibody complex. An effective amount of an antibody specific for an epitope on a metallic cation-naturally occurring polypeptide complex or an antibody specific for a metallic cation …

Isotope Ratio Studies Of Marine Mammals In Prince William Sound, Donald M. Schell, Amy Hirons
Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Reports
This project consists of two components: (1) provision of analytical services for the stable isotope ratio investigations associated with Exxon Valdez oil spill projects, and (2) an investigation of food web relationships and trophic interactions of harbor seals and other top consumers of Prince William Sound (PWS). Through the use of harbor seal tissues collected from native harvested animals and tagging programs, seasonal and migrational information has been obtained with regard to prey utilization and trophic status at differing locations within the sound and the adjacent Gulf of Alaska. Preliminary results indicate that within PWS, harbor seals fall at the …

Equality Revisited, Christopher J. Peters
Equality Revisited, Christopher J. Peters
All Faculty Scholarship
In legal, political, and philosophical discourse, and indeed in everyday life, equality often plays the role of a normatively significant prescriptive principle, a principle that provides reasons for action. Professor Peters, however, joins Peter Westen and others who argue that the traditional statement of prescriptive equality-equals are entitled to equal treatment--is normatively empty because it is a tautology. Like Professor Westen, Professor Peters notes that this traditional principle translates into a statement of simple redundancy: people entitled to equal treatment are entitled to equal treatment. Unlike Professor Westen, however, Professor Peters discerns a nontautological principle of equality, which claims that …

The precise nature of pre-reservation Comanche political organization has long been a vexing question. Key issues include the meaning of numerous reported names for Comanche-speaking subgroups and the construction of power and authority within and across these units. The present work is the most successful attempt to clarify ethnonyms and describe Comanche organizational principles.
Comanche Political History offers a valuable synthesis and interpretation and will be useful to a variety of scholars.
Review Of Pioneer Children On Thejourney West By Emmy E. Werner, Hannele Paananen
Review Of Pioneer Children On Thejourney West By Emmy E. Werner, Hannele Paananen
Great Plains Quarterly (through 2013)
Emmy E. Werner, a developmental psychologist specializing in high-risk children, traces stories of pioneer children on the long, arduous overland journey from the banks of the Mississippi to the Pacific shore. She quotes diaries, letters, and memoirs of children and adults who crossed grasslands, mountains, and deserts on the various trails to the American West from 1841 to 1865. Through these eyewitness accounts she gives voice to the children's experiences and their active roles on the westbound wagon trains.
Werner stresses the resilience of these children and young adults who had to overcome great hardship even on an ordinary overland …
