The Art Of The Oklad, Wendy Salmond Oct 1996

The Art Of The Oklad, Wendy Salmond

Art Faculty Articles and Research

"Today, it requires an act of imagination to appreciate the integral role that Oklads Once played in the meaning of medieval icons such as Rublev' s Trinity. To visualize what the majority of early Russian icons must have looked like with their covers intact, we must turn to the private devotional icon of the 18th and 19th centuries, a source that is only now attracting the notice of scholars and collectors."

The Proposed Corporate Sponsorship Regulations: Is The Treasury Department "Sleeping With The Enemy"?, David A. Brennen Oct 1996

The Proposed Corporate Sponsorship Regulations: Is The Treasury Department "Sleeping With The Enemy"?, David A. Brennen

Law Faculty Scholarly Articles

In 1993, the Treasury Department (the Treasury) issued a proposed regulation outlining when money received by a charity from a corporate sponsor would be subject to federal income tax. In defining the phrase "trade or business," the proposed regulation addresses the extent to which sponsorship payments to charities will be treated by the Treasury as having been made in return for advertising on behalf of the sponsor, thus subjecting the payment to income tax. Woodcarving In Aburi:A Change In Tradition, Laura Cochrane Oct 1996

Woodcarving In Aburi:A Change In Tradition, Laura Cochrane

African Diaspora ISPs

In this work, I examined the traditions of the woodcarving trade and the process by which the traditional form of the stool is carved in an apprenticeship position in Aburi, Ghana. I found that in spite of the historical continuity of the way the stool is created, many of the other traditions of the trade have been either modified or eradicated as a result of societal changes in religion, education, social institutions, and the functions of the forms themselves. There are other more subtle causes, which impact the carving, trade and need further study which the time frame of this …

Lights, Camera, Litigate: Lawyers And The Media In Canada And The United States, Charles W. Wolfram

Dalhousie Law Journal

Drawing on recent high profile cases in Canada and the United States, the author examines the different extent to which lawyers in those two countries comment to the media about ongoing litigation. He investigates various formal constraints upon lawyer comment, such as court-imposed publication bans and rules of professional responsibility. He also looks at the way in which lawyer behaviour is attributable to non-formal, cultural determinants.
