This Article takes account of the forces that shape revisions of the commercial law and notes the relationship between those forces and the tenor of the resulting codification; Part II peruses Scott's thesis. It responds to his criticism of the UCC drafting and revision processes and describes how uniform commercial law Jurisprudence reveals the incongruities in his analysis. Part III tests Scott's conclusions about private legislatures by considering the realist Jurisprudence of the UCC and compares the UCC's "private legislature" (PL) commercial law to the commercial- law product of a "public legislature," the Bankruptcy Code promulgated by the United States …

This in-depth study of late nineteenth-century missionary work in the Southern States Mission examines the encounter of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the American South. It highlights some of the region's varying conditions affecting missionary work and reports the elders' responses to new and different situations, peoples, and subcultures. Examining missionary work from the elders' viewpoint creates a better understanding of what the missionaries experienced and how they reacted to new situations outside the Mormon "corridor" of settlement in the American West. The statistical analysis of the 1,689 elders in the Mission reveals new details about …

The article explores the role of domestic courts, particularly in the United States, in enforcing international human rights norms and the challenges posed by sovereign immunity. It argues that U.S. courts should give greater effect to international legal norms, especially in cases involving human rights violations by foreign states. The analysis critiques the U.S. Supreme Court's narrow interpretation of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) in Saudi Arabia v. Nelson and advocates for a more expansive approach to ensure accountability for human rights abuses.

In earlier essays Henry Perritt, Marvin Anderson, Gary Bass and Patrice McDermott discuss the increasing use of computers to access information through the information superhighway, the Internet and online services, the increasing reliance on electronic formats by publishers and the federal government and the continuing debate about "information redlining." They indicate that information redlining is broader than just the availability and effects of technology and enhanced online services on lower income, minority and rural communities. Although much attention has been given to the importance of developing and using corporate and brand identity programs (from hereon essentially combined and referred to as CI), in the business literature in contrast academic treatment is less abundant and in particular there is little research on their actual implementation. Although medical examinations and samples taken from suspects' bodies in the course of police inquiries often lead to the discovery of important evidence, Singapore criminal procedure does not appear to empower the police to carry out such medical investigations. Neither does it safeguard the interests of suspects. It is submitted that the Criminal Procedure Code and other statutes should be brought up to date with modern science.

The electroweak mixing angle is determined with high precision from measurements of the mean difference between forward and backward hemisphere charges in hadronic decays of the Z. A data sample of 2.5 million hadronic Z decays recorded over the period 1990 to 1994 in the ALEPH detector at LEP is used. The mean charge separation between event hemispheres containing the original quark and antiquark is measured forbb¯bb¯ andcc¯cc¯ events in subsamples selected by their long lifetimes or using fastD*’s. The corresponding average charge separation for light quarks is measured in an inclusive sample from the anticorrelation between charges of opposite …

Olfactory receptor neurons present in two morphological sensillum types on the male Schistocerca gregaria antenna were for the first time investigated physiologically when stimulated with behaviourally relevant odours. Neurons present in trichoid/basiconic sensilla showed clear excitatory responses to compounds present in the male-produced aggregation pheromone and also to a plant produced compound. Sensilla could be categorised physiologically according to the responses of their receptor neurons to the tested stimuli. Also receptor neurons present in sensilla coeloconica responded to aggregation pheromone components, but always in an inhibitory fashion. Female Cotesia flavipes Cameron and Cotesia sesamiae (Cameron) were attracted to odors in a Y-tube olfactometer from uninfested maize (Zea mays L.), sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.)]. and napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach). In dual choice tests. Cotesia flavipes showed a preference for maize over sorghum, while maize and napier grass were equally attractive. In contrast, Cotesia sesamiae preferred volatiles from sorghum and napier grass over those from maize. The two parasitoids were significantly more attracted to maize infested with the stemborers, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe), Chilo orichalcociliellus Strand, Sesamia calamistis Hampson, and Busseola fusca (Fuller), than uninfested maize. Congenital cardiac malformations are a serious health concern affecting the development of the fetal cardiovascular system. Identification of a fetus with abnormalities early in pregnancy, 10-20 weeks gestation, could assist in clinical diagnosis and be a great asset in health care. This thesis is a continuation of, and works in concert with, other research efforts conducted at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) aimed at characterizing fetal cardiovascular health through applied signal processing. This thesis utilizes cross-correlation as a technique for analyzing the cyclic variations and assessing commonalities of individual parts of fetal umbilical artery time series data.
