Common stock new issues are commonly called intial public offerings (IPOs) or the common stocks of companies that are listed in the stock exchange and issued to the public for the first time. In the US, Barry and Jennings [1993] provided empirical evidence that IPOs generate large short-run returns, on average, for investors fortunate enough to purchase stocks at the offer price. In the Philippines, the popularity IPOs has evolved due to the high returns obtained on listing day. In one study, Ybanez [1993] found that the 32 actively traded IPO's issued from 1989-1993 recorded 40 percent excess returns. He …

This Article addresses the issues of vicarious and personal liability for employment discrimination as a coherent whole. Part II examines the prevailing view on an employer's vicarious liability for employment discrimination under Title VII, the ADEA, and the ADA. Part II further discusses the exception to vicarious liability that has developed in hostile work environment cases and examines the justifications advanced for that exception. My point here is not so much to debate whether such an exception should exist but to determine whether the arguments against vicarious liability in hostile work environment cases justifiably can be limited to that context. …

Consumers have expressed concern about the human health and environmental consequences resulting from the use of agrichemicals by growers to produce food. This paper reports the results of a 1995 survey of consumer attitudes and perceptions about pesticides and fresh fruit and vegetable quality. While there is widespread concern about the human health hazards presented by pesticide residues in food at the time of consumption, this survey population reports greater consumer concern about environmental contamination from agrichemical use. The drug sodium pentacyanonitrosylferrate(2-)dihydrate, more commonly known as nitroprusside or nipride (Fig. 1), is a common vasodilating agent given clinically to patients with hypertension.12.22 Nitroprusside is effective in emergency rooms as it quickly reduces high blood pressure, but dosages are limited because of fear that cyanide could be released also. Nitroprusside is effective because the vasodilating agent nitric oxide, NO, is released. Nitric oxide is also recognized as an important biochemical messenger molecule.22 Our research involves a search for different species that could introduce nitric oxide into the body without cyanide. The machine vision system (MVS) has been heavily publicized because of its potentially crucial contribution to robotics. It is essential to alignment and inspection tasks in integrated circuit components' assembly equipment. The objective of this thesis was to examine the capability of a MVS to assist in the automated robot assembly of the dual-in line device (DIL) and surface-mounted-device (SMD). The DIL, with 8x2-pin, and the SMD, with 24x 16-pin, were used as models, while an Adept SCARA robot was used as the robot system. The long-term career patterns of Old Dominion University's engineering technology baccalaureate graduates have been studied extensively. Results from approximately 400 alumni have been analyzed. The results of the analysis are presented and conclusions are drawn from the trends. The results indicate that the career progress of engineering technology graduates over a nearly twenty-year period is substantial and that they are performing effectively in a variety of career patterns.

This plan to establish outdoor classrooms is for the purpose of bringing outdoor/environmental education to a small rural school in South Central Georgia, kindergarten through twelfth grade, that has had very little, if any, collective concern for environmental issues heretofore. An early childhood assessment tool was developed by the author to fill a need for an observational, authentic, child assessment instrument that would include the measurement of social and emotional development, help guide teachers towards best curriculum practices, and meet common criteria for effective, appropriate, and equitable assessment. Theoretical constructs of interactionalism, multiple intelligences, dispositions, and developmentally appropriate practices were used to inform the construction of the tool. The basic problem of decision making is to choose the best alternative from a set of competing alternatives that are evaluated under conflicting criteria. In general, the process is to evaluate decision elements by quantifying the subjective judgments. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) provides us with a comprehensive framework for solving such problems. As pointed out by Saaty, AHP "enables us to cope with the intuitive, the rational, and the irrational, all at the same time, when we make multicriteria and multiactor decisions". The fifth edition of Boyle and Percy, Contracts: Cases and Commentaries manifests this tension between the ideas market and the products market. When one contrasts this edition to the first there is a significant, though by no means fundamental, shift in emphasis. The ideas dimension has taken on a larger role, but mostly in the form of a grafting onto the conventional structure rather than through conceptual reorientation. The following brief comments attempt to assess the benefits and costs of this incrementalist strategy in the spirit of what bell hooks and Cornel West have described as "critical affirmation".

This article provides a critique of recent books by two prominent Canadian constitutional theorists - David Beatty's Constitutional Law in Theory and Practice and Allan Hutchinson's Waiting for CORAF: A Critique of Law and Rights. Devlin begins with a brief overview of the various positions that have been staked out in writing on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freed oms during the last decade. Although a great deal of public attention has recently been focused on issues around assisted death remarkably little of it has come from an explicitly feminist perspective. This is a serious omission at a time when legislators are feeling pressure to review and perhaps revise existing policies on assisted death, and when the policies they contemplate may have a significant negative and disproportionate impact on women.
