Developing Reflective Learners: Serendipity And Synergy At Wheaton College, Hannah Goldberg, Daniel Golden, Victoria Mcgillin Jan 1996

Developing Reflective Learners: Serendipity And Synergy At Wheaton College, Hannah Goldberg, Daniel Golden, Victoria Mcgillin

Evaluation/Reflection

For the past decade, Wheaton College, a small liberal arts institution located in Norton, Massachusetts, has been creating, refining, and integrating a range of initiatives designed to develop students into active and reflective learners. Some of these initiatives grew out of explicit institutional commitments to teaching and learning innovation, while others were in fact happy accidents of circumstance, or situations where an individual interesting program idea took hold, spread into other units of the College, and was itself transformed in the process.

Evaluating Service-Learning Programs, Andrew Furco Jan 1996

Evaluating Service-Learning Programs, Andrew Furco

Evaluation/Reflection

What we know about service-learning programs regarding impacts on students, communities, institutions:
• little systematic data analysis has been done;
• most existing findings are anecdotal;
• findings that exist are narrow in scope and are typically nongeneralizeable to other programs;
• most studies on service-learning have focused on the impact of service on student (service provider) development;
• there are a growing number of service-learning evaluations that are assessing the impacts of service on communities (service recipients);
• assessments of the impacts of service-learning on institutions are negligible
• regarding impacts on students, we know that service can impact …

Measuring Program Outcomes: A Practical Approach, United Way Of America

Evaluation/Reflection

If yours is like most human service agencies or youth- and family-serving organizations, you regularly report on how much money you receive, how many staff and volunteers you have, and what they do in your programs. You know how many individuals participate in your programs, how many hours you spend serving them, and how many brochures or classes or counseling sessions you produce. In other words, you document program inputs, activities, and outputs.

Artifactual Nonlinearity Due To Wear Grooves An Friction In Four-Point Bending Experiments Of Cortical Bone, L. V. Griffin, J. C. Gibeling, V. A. Gibson, R B. Martin, S. M. Stover Jan 1996

Artifactual Nonlinearity Due To Wear Grooves An Friction In Four-Point Bending Experiments Of Cortical Bone, L. V. Griffin, J. C. Gibeling, V. A. Gibson, R B. Martin, S. M. Stover

Biomedical Engineering

Experiments and analyses were performed to determine th e cause of a nonlinear force-deflection response observed in four-point flexural fatigue of beams ofcortical bone machined from the mid-diaphysis of the equine third metacarpus. Observable grooves which formed on the beam surface at supports and load noses were found to be the primary cause of the nonlinearity. An additional geometric nonlinearity at large deflections revealed by finite element modeling may be minimized by using the smallest diameter supports and load noses recommended in ASTM 790. However, frictional constraint of the beams at the load noses and supports can occur at low …

Bulletins 4000 -

This Bulletin updates Bulletin No. 4083, which was written in 1984. Since tat time 11 new subterranean clover cultivars have been released, making a total of 33. This Bulletin is largely applicable across all subterranean clover areas of Australia. However specific mention is made in the text to applications in Western Australia.

Toolibin Catchment Revegetation Manual, Avril Baxter Jan 1996

Toolibin Catchment Revegetation Manual, Avril Baxter

Natural resources published reports

In1983, heavy winter rains resulted in severe inundation and flooding of the lower parts of the Toolibin catchment. The damage to crops and pastures was immense and costly. Local farmers realised that they needed to work together to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall events on their farm productivity.

At the same time the Western Australian Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) was concerned about the quality of both ground and surface water in the catchment area for Toolibin Lake, the last remaining wooded freshwater lake in the southern wheatbelt. This mutual interest led to the formation of the …
