Implications Of A Feminist Narratology: Temporality, Focalization And Voice In The Films Of Julie Dash, Mona Smith And Trinh T. Minh-Ha, Jennifer Alyce Machiorlatti

Wayne State University Dissertations

This dissertation conducts feminist narrative textual analysis of films by three independent women film-makers-of- color: Julie Dash, Mona Smith and Trinh T. Minh-ha. The research utilizes traditional cinematic narratological methods combined with a feminist perspective. Narratology is the structural/textual study of narrative organization, style and content. Feminism is a theoretical body of inquiry which lends implications of gender difference, power relationships, cinematic stereotypes, and cultural significance to textual analysis. Feminist inquiry contributes a social, cultural, ideological and historical perspective to the taxomony of a structuralist narrative methodology. By combining this contextual perspective with a topological textual method, I propose consideration …

Two-Dimensional Spectrum Estimation Using The Radon Transform, Jennifer Wideman Nov 1996

Two-Dimensional Spectrum Estimation Using The Radon Transform, Jennifer Wideman

Theses

An alternative approach to two-dimensional power spectrum estimation incorporating the Radon transform in conjunction with each of the one-dimensional periodogram, Blackman-Tukey, and Autoregressive parameter estimation algorithms is examined. The Radon transform is used to express a two-dimensional data set in terms of its projections onto a set of one-dimensional radial lines, effectively reducing the two-dimensional estimation problem to a series of one-dimensional problems. The resulting two-dimensional power spectrum estimates are compared to the known power spectra for a variety of data types. The Radon transform approach combined with autoregressive parameter estimation can provide a high-resolution power spectrum estimate, effectively surpassing …

The muon tracking system for the PHENIX detector at RHIC uses cathode strip chambers (CSC) for the tracking detectors. These detectors must provide 100 μm resolution per measurement plane to give satisfactory mass resolution of the vector mesons. The intermediate station (station 2) must have a very small radiation length, and large acceptance. We have prototyped a full scale CSC chamber to test the use of 25 micron metalized mylar foils for the cathode strips at station 2. The full scale prototype detector is a trapezoid 2.3 meters high and 2.3 meters wide. The foil and wire planes are mounted …

The muon tracking system for the PHENIX detector uses cathode strip chambers (CSC) for the tracking detectors. These detectors must provide 58 micron resolution at each station to give satisfactory mass resolution of the vector mesons. Station 1 must have a high acceptance with a relatively low radiation length in order to avoid shadowing of the stations 2 and 3 via multiple scattering. We have built a full scale prototype of the station 1 detector using honeycomb panels for the substrate of the 20 mil G-10 etched cathode planes. The anode and o-ring planes are laminated to the cathode-covered honeycomb …

Correspondence To Zhou Yan, Da-Wei Fei 费大为

Zhou Documents

On November 2nd, 1996, art critic Fei Dawei sent from his Paris home a fax to Zhou Yan. In his letter, Fei describes his plans for the 22nd and 23rd. which involve four Chinese artists also based in France: Yang Jie-Chang, Huang Yong-Ping, Yan Pei-Ming, and Chen Zhen. The critic also repeatedly mentions a woman named "Julia", referring to Julia Brown, an art curator. He tells Zhou that he is planning to meet a Taiwanese artist whom Julia has introduced to him. The letter ends with Fei's request for Zhou Yan to fax Julia and tell him what she says.
