Selection Of Populations Of Puccinia Recondita F. Sp. Tritici For Shortened Latent Period On A Partially Resistant Wheat Cultivar, Jeffrey Lehman Nov 1996

Selection Of Populations Of Puccinia Recondita F. Sp. Tritici For Shortened Latent Period On A Partially Resistant Wheat Cultivar, Jeffrey Lehman

Biology and Earth Science Faculty Scholarship

Wild-type fungal population 851-WT was selected for shortened latent period on cv. CI 13227 for five uredinial generations to study the adaptation of Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici to partially resistant wheat cultivars. Differences among wild-type and selected populations for traits contributing to parasitic fitness (i.e., latent period, infection frequency, and uredinium area and growth rate) were assessed in monocyclic infection experiments on susceptible cv. Monon and partially resistant cvs. Suwon 85, Sw 72469-6, L-574-1, and CI 13227. Differences were greatest among fungal populations on cv. CI 13227. The mean latent period of selected population 851-C5 was 2 days shorter …

Nonequilibrium Critical Dynamics Of A Three Species Monomer-Monomer Model, Kevin E. Bassler, Dana A. Browne Nov 1996

Nonequilibrium Critical Dynamics Of A Three Species Monomer-Monomer Model, Kevin E. Bassler, Dana A. Browne

Faculty Publications

We study a three species monomer-monomer catalytic surface reaction model with a reactive steady state bordered by three equivalent unreactive phases where the surface is saturated with one species. The transition from the reactive to a saturated phase shows directed percolation critical behavior. Each pair of these reactive-saturated phase boundaries joins at a bicritical point where the universal behavior is in the even branching annihilating random walk class. We find the crossover exponent from bicritical to critical behavior and a new exponent associated with the bicritical interface dynamics. © 1996 The American Physical Society.

Boehm, Tianyun Wu, Alex G. Stone, Bart Kraakman, Donna A. Iannotti, G. Edwin Wilson, Laurence V. Madden, Harry A.J. Hoitink

Department of Plant Pathology: Faculty Publications

We report the use of a model system that examines the dynamics of biological energy availability in organic matter in a sphagnum peat potting mix critical to sustenance of microorganism-mediated biological control of pythium root rot, a soilborne plant disease caused by Pythium ultimum. The concentration of readily degradable carbohydrate in the peat, mostly present as cellulose, was characterized by cross-polarized magic-angle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. A decrease in the carbohydrate concentration in the mix was observed during the initial 10 weeks after potting as the rate of hydrolysis of fluorescein diacetate declined below a critical threshold level …

Implications Of A Feminist Narratology: Temporality, Focalization And Voice In The Films Of Julie Dash, Mona Smith And Trinh T. Minh-Ha, Jennifer Alyce Machiorlatti

Wayne State University Dissertations

This dissertation conducts feminist narrative textual analysis of films by three independent women film-makers-of- color: Julie Dash, Mona Smith and Trinh T. Minh-ha. The research utilizes traditional cinematic narratological methods combined with a feminist perspective. Narratology is the structural/textual study of narrative organization, style and content. Feminism is a theoretical body of inquiry which lends implications of gender difference, power relationships, cinematic stereotypes, and cultural significance to textual analysis. Feminist inquiry contributes a social, cultural, ideological and historical perspective to the taxomony of a structuralist narrative methodology. By combining this contextual perspective with a topological textual method, I propose consideration …

South Dakota Farm &Home Research Index 1978-1994 aids researchers, extension personnel, historians, librarians, and others in locating information about the research of the state's Agricultural Experiment Station. It facilitates the identification of articles describing relevant research and researchers. South Dakota Farm & Home Research has been published by the Agricultural Experiment Station, South Dakota State University, Brookings, since 1949. The quarterly journal features brief reports on a wide variety of experiment station and university research activities focusing on agriculture and home economics. This index supplements the previous index to South Dakota Farm & Home Research, compiled by Leon Raney and …

Informal Project Reports

A two-page spreadsheet was designed to represent the simulation model. In the spreadsheet, the user can easily conduct simulation runs. Runs that ascertain the effect of different combinations of biological and economical factors. Sensitivity of wood flow and net present value to plantation management attributes. A forester can use the spreadsheet to investigate specific combinations of factors. This spreadsheet is a versatile analytical tool for comparing management scenarios.
