Corporate Ethics And Social Responsibility: A Focus On Asia, Jorge Camposano Jan 1996

Corporate Ethics And Social Responsibility: A Focus On Asia, Jorge Camposano

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Corporate ethics has occupied the attention of business communities in predominantly market economies worldwide. Unfortunately, however, most of this attention has not been accompanied by serois historical understanding of concepts and ideas. Apart from superficial and obligatory references to the writings of Max Weber, Immanuel Kant and John Mill, ther has been little attempt to dicuss the historical roots of capitalism as an thical system. Over the past few decades with the world becoming increasingly more polluted and resource-strapped and consequently less productive, and with the peoples of various nations becoming more politicized and future-oriented-the ethics of global capitalism has …

Voices/Voces In The Borderlands: A Colloquy On Re/Constructing Identities In Re/Constructed Legal Spaces, Margaret E. Montoya, Melissa Harrison

Faculty Scholarship

While we believe that the work of healing our cultural dyslexia is partly cognitive, in and through this paper we have tried to enact the experiential aspect. We may approach the entrances of the borderlands through reading and thinking, however we believe that the borderlands is a phenomenon of living, a phenomenon of well-intentioned people interacting in deliberate and thoughtful ways with those who are simultaneously like and unlike us/them. The borderlands require that we bring our critical faculties to bear on life's experiences, but, more often than not, we must suspend them in favor of more charitable and affiliative …

Foreword: Federalism And Anti-Federalism As Civil Rights Tools, Charles F. Abernathy Jan 1996

Foreword: Federalism And Anti-Federalism As Civil Rights Tools, Charles F. Abernathy

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

The focus on Civil Rights and the Supreme Court 1994 Term in this issue of the Howard Law Journal has one relatively consistent underlying theme-the role of federalist and anti-federalist arguments in the formulation of civil rights policy. As you might expect, there is not much dispute among the authors about the proper goals of civil rights law, for virtually every author in this issue is in one sense or another a traditionalist on policy... What separates the authors is their instrumentalist arguments; that is, how they would accomplish their goals...Some are traditional federalists, supporting the federal role for civil …

The Gatt And The Unmaking Of International Environmental Law, Robert Weir Jan 1996

The Gatt And The Unmaking Of International Environmental Law, Robert Weir

Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies

This paper examines the uneasy relationship between the regulation of international trade and international environmental law. In particular, it focuses on two GATT panel decisions that struck down US-imposed trade embargoes on tuna products imported from countries that the US considered killed too many dolphins in their tuna fisheries. The implications of the decisions went far beyond the immediate environmental issue that faced the GATT panels, bringing into question the validity of trade sanctions as a means of enforcing and strengthening existing multilateral environmental agreements. At the same time, however, a critical examination of the American position reveals serious flaws …

Granting Refuge From Islam: The Canadian Refugee Determination Process And The Casualties Of Islamic Policies, Olivier Fuldauer Jan 1996

Granting Refuge From Islam: The Canadian Refugee Determination Process And The Casualties Of Islamic Policies, Olivier Fuldauer

Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies

A number of key divergences between Islamic and Canadian legal regimes are generating a growing stream of refugees into Canada. There is every sign that this trend will grow as political forces on both sides map out their ideological position in law with greater precision. Recent years have seen the introduction into the normative legal system of many Islamic states' "Islamization" laws. In Canada, the refugee determination process has seen a correlating, but opposite, movement to recognize persecution in its more systemic guises. This paper will focus on those refugee claims from Islamic states which have been accepted on a …

Paradise In Poverty, Visti Favrholt

The Bridge

Junction City, in the early thirties, was a sleepy, small

town located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. With a

population of only a few hundred, it could hardly be

called a city. But the forefathers had visions of a major rail way

and highway junction at this location, providing prosperity

and a great future for all. As it was, the railway went

straight through town and trains seldom stopped there.

Physical And Chemical Stability Of Spray Dried Sugars And Protein-Sugar Molecuiar Mixtures For Inhalation, Venkatesh Naini Jan 1996

Physical And Chemical Stability Of Spray Dried Sugars And Protein-Sugar Molecuiar Mixtures For Inhalation, Venkatesh Naini

Theses and Dissertations

The feasibility of producing inhalable microparticles of sugars and protein-sugar molecular mixtures using spray drying was investigated as an alternative to conventional micronization techniques. Four sugars; lactose (L), trehalose (T), sucrose (S) and mannitol (M) were spray dried using a commercial bench-top spray dryer and their physicochemical stability, with respect to particle size, moisture uptake and crystallinity changes, investigated after storage at 23%, 52%, 75% and 93% relative humidity (RH) and 25 °C for 30 days. Two crystalline size fractions (“coarse” = 125-212 μm and “fine” = 44-74 μm) of each sugar, were also characterized, as possible replacements for lactose …
