It has been proposed that the Xenopus homeobox gene, XlHbox8, is involved in endodermal differentiation during pancreatic and duodenal development (Wright, C. V. E., Schnegelsberg, P. and De Robertis, E. M. (1988). Development 105, 787-794). To test this hypothesis directly, gene targeting was used to make two different null mutations in the mouse XlHbox8 homolog, pdx-1. In the first, the second pdx-1 exon, including the homeobox, was replaced by a neomycin resistance cassette. In the second, a lacZ reporter was fused in-frame with the N terminus of PDX-1, replacing most of the homeodomain. Neonatal pdx-1-/- mice are apancreatic, in confirmation …

Litigators with experience in the field of religious liberty believe that courts do not seem to take religious liberty claims and defenses very seriously; however, it is difficult to know why. To be sure, the anecdotal evidence is certainly there, not only in the reported cases, but also in the actual courtroom experiences of those who attempt to raise religious liberty claims and defenses. Paragraph 107(l)(b) of the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Act enables landlords to evict tenants on short notice for engaging in illegal activity or for permitting such activity to be conducted in or on any part of the rental premises. Under this provision, the landlord can serve a notice of termination on the tenant, who may then exercise his/her right to dispute the landlord's allegation at a scheduled court hearing.

Shielding Internet Users From Undesirable Content: The Advantages Of A Pics Based Rating System, Ari Staiman

This Note argues that the European Union should adopt the Commission recommended a Platform for Internet Content Selection ("PICS") based rating system because the PICS based rating system is the most technically and legally effective method for combating undesirable content on the Internet and because it furthers freedom of expression as well as the European Union common market's four freedoms. Only a coordinated worldwide system, furthermore, will enable the European Union and governments throughout the world to effectively shield citizens from undesirable content, regardless of how a particular government may define the term undesirable. This Comment will: (1) discuss the current plight of the Asiatic tigers and the North American black bears, describing the extent of their endangerment and the pur- poses for which they are being poached and traded in various Asian countries; (2) describe and analyze currently proposed means of end- ing the poaching and trading of these animals; and (3) propose a pro- tection program that combines viable aspects of current proposals and reflects the particularities of the problem concerning the tigers and of the problem concerning the bears.

I propose that a woman who becomes pregnant with the intent to abort will be treated as an initial aggressor, and as such she will be denied the "abortion exception" that will be granted to the woman who aborts an accidental, unwanted pregnancy. Moreover, I shall argue that a woman should not be allowed to designate the donee of the fetal tissue from her abortion, even though her pregnancy was accidental. Without this restriction, a woman who intends to become pregnant and abort may simply claim her pregnancy was accidental, and thereby claim the exception. Central to this study is …

Each year the Adams County Historical Society receives inquiries either in person or by mail from persons asking for information about a young woman who with the rest of her family was seized and carried off from their home in what is now Adams county during the French and Indian War. She was the only member of that family who was not slaughtered as the raiding party and its captives moved into the western part of Pennsylvania. The subsequent life of this woman among the Indians was deemed of sufficient historical importance that she was chosen to be among some …
