Long-Term Protection From Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus In Feedlot Cattle, C. C.L. Chase, J. Hanson, R. Fraser, L. Braun, S. Anderson, D.J. Hurley

South Dakota Beef Report, 1996

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) causes respiratory and reproductive disease. The duration of immunity of an inactivated vaccine (Virashield 5: Grand Laboratories, Freeman, SD) was measured in two challenge studies. In both studies the vaccinated animals demonstrated fewer clinical signs when challenged with Type II BVDV at 11 or 13 months post vaccination. These results indicate that an inactivated vaccine administered properly can protect animals against disease up to at least a year post vaccination.

Jacinta's "Vista Al Cuarto Estado": The Galley Version, Linda M. Willem Jan 1996

Jacinta's "Vista Al Cuarto Estado": The Galley Version, Linda M. Willem

Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS

The galley stag in the production of Galdós's novels provided the author with an opportunity for final revision before his texts went to press. Despite Berkowitz's claims to the contrary, Galdós did make numerous changes in his works prior to their publication. Indeed, no page of Fortunata y Jacinta's galleys is left untouched. Yet, surprisingly little critical attention has been afforded this important stage in the production of Galdós's masterpiece. In 1978 James Whiston pioneered the way for further study in this area by publishing a brief article discussing how minor substitutions and additions to the galleys rendered the …

George Bird Grinnell, Robley Evans Jan 1996

George Bird Grinnell, Robley Evans

Western Writers Series Digital Editions

As the United States frontier moved west in the nineteenth century, it developed as a locus for the myth of the American superman, a fabled combination of self-reliance and self-development in which the frontiersman fought savage beasts and wild Indians to push a great civilization through plains and forests to the Pacific Ocean. Ironically, to participate in the frontier’s expansion was to contribute to its destruction: as destiny and technology seemed to carry the nation toward its grand fulfillment, the wilderness with its challenging animals and murderous savages diminished. By the 1880s, thoughtful Americans believed that the West could no …

Wildlife Damage Management (Wdm) In The Northern Utah Adc District, United States Department Of Agriculture, Animal And Plant Health Inspection Service, Animal Damage Control

All U.S. Government Documents (Utah Regional Depository)

Across the United States, wildlife habitat has been substantially changed as human populations expand and land is used for human needs. These human uses and needs often compete with wildlife which increases the potential for conflicting human/wildlife interactions. In addition, segments of the public strive for protection for all wildlife; this protection can create localized conflicts between human and wildlife activities.

Constructivism And Non-Western Science Education Research, William W. Cobern Jan 1996

Constructivism And Non-Western Science Education Research, William W. Cobern

Scientific Literacy and Cultural Studies Project

In this paper, I argue that science education research and curriculum development efforts in Nonwestern countries can benefit by adopting a constructivist view of science and science learning. The past efforts at transferring curricula from the West, and local development projects that result in curricula only marginally different from Western curricula, stem from an acultural view of science. These efforts also ground science learning in concepts of logical thinking rather than understanding. The resulting level of science learning, however, has not met expectations. Constructivism offers a very different view of science and science learning. It assumes that logical thinking is …
