The Use Of Referrals For Therapeutic Counseling By Catholic Parish Priests And The Implications For Clinical Social Workers, Mary Anne Zapor
The Use Of Referrals For Therapeutic Counseling By Catholic Parish Priests And The Implications For Clinical Social Workers, Mary Anne Zapor
Theses Digitization Project
This positivist research design project focused on the question: How do parish priests deal with people who are in need of therapeutic counseling? Central to this study was the hypothesis, that priests refer people to professionals, when there is no conflict expected between values and morals of the church and the values and moral of the professional therapist.

Family-Of-Origin And Current Family Styles Of Adults Molested As Children, Randal Taylor
Theses Digitization Project
The developmental impact of the family system on a child varies according to the functional status of the family. Harter, Pamela, and Neimeyer (1988) found that sexually abused children reported perceptions of significantly less cohesion and adaptability than nonabused children within their families of origin.

Historical Context Of Profesional Ideology And Tension And Strain In The Accounting Profession, Sivakumar Velayutham, M. H. Perera
Historical Context Of Profesional Ideology And Tension And Strain In The Accounting Profession, Sivakumar Velayutham, M. H. Perera
Accounting Historians Journal
A growing literature points to a crisis of confidence in the accounting profession and a lack of commitment by its members to the professional ideology. In this paper the approach developed by MacIntyre is used to place professional ideology in an historical context. The paper argues that the tension and strain in the profession can be related to the changing character of both the contemporary society and professional ideology itself. It concludes by highlighting the need for the profession to develop an ideology to which its members as well as society can relate.

Multicultural Counseling: What Counselors Need To Be Aware Of When Counseling African-American Clients, Ethel M. Love
Multicultural Counseling: What Counselors Need To Be Aware Of When Counseling African-American Clients, Ethel M. Love
Graduate Research Papers
African-Americans are the largest ethnic minority group in the United States (Ruiz, 1990). The United States Bureau of Census reported 30.8 million African-Americans lived in this country in 1992 (Paniagua, 1994). The United States Bureau of Census projected that 37 million African-Americans will be residing in this country by the year 2000 (Atkinson, Morton, & Sue, 1993). With this growing population of African-Americans comes the likelihood of counselors and therapists becoming more involved in counseling this population. 1 Mental health professionals can become better prepared to counsel African-Americans by becoming aware of such factors as the historical and cultural influence …

School of Public Health Faculty Research
Because of the enormity of the HIV-AIDS epidemic and the urgency for preventing transmission, HIV prevention programs are a high priority for careful and timely evaluations. Information on program effectiveness and efficiency is needed for decision-making about future HIV prevention priorities. General characteristics of successful HIV prevention programs, programs empirically evaluated and found to change (or not change) high-risk behaviors or in need of further empirical study, and economic evaluations of certain programs are described and summarized with attention limited to programs that have a behavioral basis. HIV prevention programs have an impact on averting or reducing risk behaviors, particularly …
Report On The Consultation With The Maritime School Of Social Work Community, Dianne Pothier
Report On The Consultation With The Maritime School Of Social Work Community, Dianne Pothier
Dianne Pothier Collection
In my assessment there is a genuine and strong commitment to affirmative action and anti-racism at the MSSW. But that in itself is only the beginning. Real cross cultural understanding is a major challenge, and needs to be constantly worked at. In the process, mistakes will be made on all sides. Allowances need to be made for that. The School looks at itself compared to other institutions; critics look at the School compared to an ideal world. Neither perspective holds the complete truth. The MSSW needs to continue to work at the effectiveness of its affirmative action program, defining that …
