A Two-Level Flow Control Scheme For High Speed Networks, Fengmin Gong, Guru Parulkar Nov 1992

A Two-Level Flow Control Scheme For High Speed Networks, Fengmin Gong, Guru Parulkar

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

Many new network applications demand interprocess communication (IPC) services with guaranteed bandwidth, delay, and low. Existing transport protocol mechanisms have not been designed with these service objectives. Large bandwidth-delay products of high-speed networks also render the existing flow control mechanism inefficient. This paper presents the design, evaluation, and implementation of a two-level flow control scheme that can support efficient IPC for these applications in high-speed network environments.

Real Property, Robert L. Foreman Jr., T. Daniel Brannan, Stephen M. Lamastra

Mercer Law Review

Perhaps because of the recession's adverse effect on real estate activity in Georgia, there have been fewer real property cases decided during the survey period than in recent years. However, there were several significant legislative enactments during the year. From decisions affecting the priority of lienholders to increased environmental legislation to several significant cases defining the obligations on a lender in a foreclosure sale, there have been a number of important developments in the past year of which real estate practitioners must be aware.

San Diego Law Review

This Article analyzes the basis for safe-haven programs for refugees fleeing war and civil strife under contemporary principles of international law. The authors trace the development of safe-haven programs in the United States and offer an analysis and critique of the Temporary Protected Status program created by the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990. Focusing on the struggle to gain safe haven for refugees from El Salvador, the authors review the United States government's historical use of safe haven programs as a political tool. Finally, the Article looks at how other countries have responded to refugee crises and suggests a …

Federal Common Law And The Need For Uniformity In The Regulation Of Federal Savings And Loan Associations And Federal Credit Unions, Raquel Maria Prieguez

San Diego Law Review

Federal courts have authority to fashion federal common law in a few narrow instances. Through an examination of relevant precedent in the area of federal common law, this Comment identifies essential factors necessary for the fashioning of federal common law where the rights and duties of the United States are involved. It then applies the findings to the issue of whether state or federal law should govern in actions against officers and directors of federal savings and loan associations and federal credit unions for breach of fiduciary duties or breach of bylaws. This Comment also finds that some federal courts …

Knocking Out Motor Vehicle Insurance Household Exclusions: Does The Financial Responsibility Law Cover All Bases, David A. Dick Nov 1992

Knocking Out Motor Vehicle Insurance Household Exclusions: Does The Financial Responsibility Law Cover All Bases, David A. Dick

Missouri Law Review

This Note discusses the issues presented by the conflicts between Missouri's Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law, a legislative act intended to provide compensation for persons injured in vehicular accidents, and contractual exclusion clauses contained in motor vehicle liability insurance policies. A "household" or "family" exclusion clause, the type of liability insurance contract exclusion at issue in Halpin, typically states that no coverage exists for any obligation an insured may have to a member of the insured's family who is residing in the same household as the insured.' The household exclusion is designed to eliminate coverage when one family member's negligence …

Regulation Of The Nucleosome-Free Promoter Region Of Simian Virus 40., Dianne Marie Kube Nov 1992

Regulation Of The Nucleosome-Free Promoter Region Of Simian Virus 40., Dianne Marie Kube

Theses and Dissertations

We proposed that SV40 T-antigen binding SiteI and adjacent sequences are involved in the regulation of the proportion of SV40 chromosomes containing a nucleosome-free promoter (NFP) region. Wild-type and SiteI/T antigen defective SV40 chromosomes were analyzed by promoter-specific restriction endonuclease digestion and electron microscopy. SiteI/T antigen mutant chromosomes showed a significant increase in the proportion of chromosomes containing a nuclease hypersensitive promoter region. This increase corresponded to a similar increase in the proportion of chromosomes with a LARGE (greater than 4 times the average internucleosomal distance) nucleosome-free region in the SiteI/T antigen mutants as visualized by electron microscopy. The proportion …
