A model inservice program built on a theoretical foundation for changing behavior incorporates both teachers' knowledge, their attitudes as well as what they do. What teachers do in the classroom depends on both what they know and how they feel about what they know, Changing what teachers know and do is accomplished in a three phase sequence, awareness, arousal and action. In the awareness phase, teachers are confronted with their knowledge needs. In the arousal phase, teacher generate interest in using what they know. Action is reflected in what teachers do and is reinforced when they have time to reflect …

Examination Of Community Mental Health Services For Persons With Serious Mental Illness: A Descriptive Study Of 31 Counties In Michigan, Pamela C. Werner

Thirty-one out of 55 Community Mental Health Boards participated in a survey conducted by the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Michigan. This study examined a number of variables in the questionnaire using a product-moment correlational analysis.

Results indicated that family and consumer input is modestly correlated with comprehensive service delivery and staff/consumer education and training. Budget and the active number of mentally ill cases had a low correlation with comprehensive service delivery and staff/consumer education and training. Interagency collaboration was modestly correlated with program evaluation, and comprehensive services available to consumers. Weaknesses were noted in the management structure of …

Laser Doppler Velocimetry Research Of The Blowby Gas Characteristics In An Internal Combustion Engine, Mark Kevin Coffill

The project was designed to measure a reciprocating engine fluid flow (blowby gases past the piston rings) using a laser doppler velocimeter (LDV). Blowby gases were obtained by introducing compressed air into an engine cylinder (piston held at TDC) to simulate engine combustion pressures. Beginning the proposed research included starting an LDV/reciprocating engine laboratory at Western Michigan University and determining the limits of the measurement devices (LDV system in particular).

The limitations which were found in the LDV system only allowed for limited results of in cylinder optical measurements. The results obtained were for cylinder pressures below 0.6 kPa gauge …

Manuscripts of the commentary of Atto of Vercelli on the Epistle of Saint Paul to the Romans were transcribed and collated, and a critical edition of the commentary, from the Prologue to Atto’s comments on chapter two, verse thirteen of the biblical text, was produced, noting textual variants, Scriptural quotations, and Patristic sources. This edition was compared with previous editions of the commentary, and variants were listed. A comparison was made with manuscripts of another commentary on Romans which was paraphrased from Atto’s, and similarities and differences were noted.

Use Of Geology And Petrophysics In The Characterization Of St. Peter Sandstone Reservoirs, Rusli Bin Adam

Core samples and petrophysical data from three reservoir intervals within the Middle Ordovician St. Peter Sandstone in the Michigan basin were utilized to assess the reservoir performance. Each reservoir interval coincides with major sedimentary facies which are in gradational contact with one another vertically and laterally throughout the basin. Reservoirs in the lower portions of the formation (reservoir type 1) are dominated by meso-intercrystalline porosity. This predominantly quartz cemented reservoir rock type is characterized by low porosity with high permeability, moderate pore apertures, and moderate irreducible water saturation. Reservoirs at the top of the formation (reservoir type 3) are dominated …

The purpose of this study is to explain and classify the behavior of corporate managers in the accounting standards setting process as it related to Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 106. Evidence from this study provides readers a better understanding of participation of corporate managers in the accounting standards setting process. To accomplish the objective, this study surveyed corporate representatives who responded to the Financial Accounting Standards Board's, February 1989, exposure draft, "Employers' Accounting for Postretirement Benefits Other Than Pensions," (OPEB). The study of American legal institutions and practices provides valuable information regarding American society. This analysis focuses on the County Court of Lafayette County, Mississippi from its creation in 1865 until its dissolution in 1870. In order to assess the role of this court during Reconstruction, the types of cases and participants for the five-year period were analyzed.

The County Court system was established by the Mississippi state legislature in 1865 to manage the anticipated surge of criminal activity caused by the Civil War and the emancipation of slaves. This research discovered that although there was a considerable amount of …

In five previous Georgia and Eleventh Circuit evidence survey articles, the author extolled the virtues of the proposed Georgia Rules of Evidence.' These rules roughly tracked the Federal Rules of Evidence and would replace Georgia's existing evidence code which is, in reality, not a code at all but rather a jumble of disjointed statutes found in several different titles of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated and countless court decisions. The proposed rules were first introduced in the General Assembly in 1989 and were approved by the Senate in 1990 and 1991 but have never been reported out of the …

One of the traditional hallmarks of the American legal profession has been its virtual freedom from regulation. If there is any theme evident in recent developments in the legal ethics field, it is that this freedom is under increasing attack from clients, courts, the bar, and the legislature. The year 1992 was no exception, with a number of challenges made to the authority of individual lawyers and the profession itself. The Supreme Court of Georgia rejected one lawyer's challenge to mandatory court appointments and another's freedom to contract with a client for unlimited authority to settle cases.

The year 1992 brought the most comprehensive workers' compensation reform legislation in two decades. Dramatic changes impact the amount and duration of temporary total disability benefits, the definition of change of condition, vocational rehabilitation services in noncatastrophic cases, and the return of subrogation by employers against third party tortfeasors, as well as many other changes in the workers' compensation system, as detailed below.
