Thermally Activated Reversible Threshold Shifts In Yba2Cu3O7-Δ/Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia/Si Capacitors, Jianmin Qiao, Eric M. Ajimine, Paresh P. Patel, Geoffrey L. Giese, Cary Y. Yang

Yba₂Cu₃O_7-δ/yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ)/silicon superconductor–insulator–semiconductor capacitors are characterized with capacitance‐voltage (C‐V) measurements at different gate‐voltage sweep rates and under bias‐temperature cycling. It is shown that ionic conduction in YSZ causes both hysteresis and stretch‐out in room‐temperature C‐V curves. A thermally activated process with an activation energy of about 39 meV in YSZ and/or at YSZ/Si interface is attributed to trapping/detrapping mechanisms in the SiO_x interfacial layer between YSZ and Si. The negative mobile ions in YSZ can be moved by an applied electric field at room temperature and then ‘‘frozen’’ with decreasing temperature, giving …

Electron beam direct writing technologies, specifically for the large area patterning of electronic devices such as printed wiring boards, are studied in this paper. The vector scanning method with two kinds of beam deflection, main-deflection and sub-deflection, has been adopted for the fabrication of circuit patterns of various line widths. The sub-deflection of high frequency oscillation is superimposed on the main-deflection, which allows for controlling each line width with ease. A data conversion and a deflection control system with several strategies have been developed to reduce the conversion time and the volume of output data. It is revealed that circuit …

Electron beam direct writing technologies, specifically for the large area patterning of electronic devices such as printed wiring boards, are studied in this paper. The exposure characteristics of the resist on the internal surface of a through-hole are examined. A thick film resist which is composed mainly of unsaturated acrylic resins is prepared on the internal surface of the hole by an electrodeposition process.

It is proven that a 20 μm thick resist on the internal surface can be exposed efficiently by a 60 keV electron beam. This phenomenon becomes even stronger by placing a gold plated metal plate on …

My discussion is divided into six sections. In the first I provide some background to the form-in-matter problem in Aristotle; the second focusses on Alexander's solution to the problem; in the third, we consider Plotinus' contribution; in the fourth, there's brief treatment of the problem by the commentators on the Categories; and finally in the fifth section I look at what I call the 'Lucius problem' - this pertains directly to the substantial qualities doctrine, and it reveals, I suggest, how Alexander's way of solving the form-in-matter problem contributes to the breakdown of Aristotelian categories. Nanosecond Transient Electroluminescene From Polymer Light-Emitting Diodes, David Braun, D. Moses, C. Zhang, A. J. Heeger

The transient electroluminescence from polymer light-emitting diodes is reported. When the devices are mounted on a microstrip transmission line, the temporal response is limited by the electrode geometry, with rise and fall times below 50 ns. With low duty-cycle pulses (0.5%) the electroluminescence intensity remains proportional to the current at values up to 10 A/cm², two orders of magnitude greater than possible under direct current operation. Since the spectral blue-shift observed at high current levels (with power dissipation above 1 W/cm²) indicates significant sample heating, still higher levels should be possible with proper thermal management.

A large shift of the onset of flux-flow resistivity and the irreversibility line H_irr (T) to higher temperatures is observed in Tl₂Ba₂Ca₂Cu₃O₁₀ films containing linear defects created by Ag⁺²¹ ion irradiation. The H_irr(T), which has a characteristic ssL shape in highly anisotropic Tl and Bi based cuprates, becomes more like that of YBa₂Cu₃O₇ in the presence of these defects. The J_c at 77 K also shows a large increase as a result of flux localization at the …
