The Pricing Decision: Balancing The Cost-Based And Market-Based Approaches In Different Industries, Shawn M. Kain, Kenneth Yale Rosenzweig
The Pricing Decision: Balancing The Cost-Based And Market-Based Approaches In Different Industries, Shawn M. Kain, Kenneth Yale Rosenzweig
Accounting Faculty Publications
The objectives of this paper are to discuss cost estimating and pricing issues in four different industries, to analyze methods and strategies that are used in the costing and pricing of products in those industries, and to make general comparisons about costing and pricing techniques.
Accurate projection of costs is essential to the survival of any firm because cost estimates often determine whether a project will be authorized to begin or continue, the amount of resources that will be allocated to a particular product or product line, the prices of products, and the firm's and product line's profitability. Many management …
Electronic Properties Of Sensitizer Centers, Dan Zhang
Electronic Properties Of Sensitizer Centers, Dan Zhang
Theses
This investigation expands on previous photographic studies of the sensitivity of sulfur and sulfur-plus-gold sensitized octahedral AgBr emulsions to long wavelength light. The experimental atmosphere was controlled by a variable temperature vacuum sensitometer which reduced the oxygen and moisture content of emulsion coatings and thereby improved the efficiency of long wavelength sensitivity. The relative sensitivity at long wavelengths was determined as a function of wavelength, sensitizer level, and sensitizer type. The activation energy actually measures the energy for a hole release from an excited sensitizer center and not for an electron release as earlier work has claimed. By correlating the …
Metaphoric Coherence: Distinguishing Verbal Metaphor From `Anomaly', Sylvia Weber Russell
Metaphoric Coherence: Distinguishing Verbal Metaphor From `Anomaly', Sylvia Weber Russell
Computer Science
Theories and computational models of metaphor comprehension generally circumvent the question of metaphor versus “anomaly” in favor of a treatment of metaphor versus literal language. Making the distinction between metaphoric and “anomalous” expressions is subject to wide variation in judgment, yet humans agree that some potentially metaphoric expressions are much more comprehensible than others. In the context of a program which interprets simple isolated sentences that are potential instances of cross‐modal and other verbal metaphor, I consider some possible coherence criteria which must be satisfied for an expression to be “conceivable” metaphorically. Metaphoric constraints on object nominals are represented as …

The Effects Of Teaching A Summary Skills Strategy To Students Identified As Learning Disabled On Their Comprehension Of Science Text, J. Ron Nelson, Deborah J. Smith, John M. Dodd
The Effects Of Teaching A Summary Skills Strategy To Students Identified As Learning Disabled On Their Comprehension Of Science Text, J. Ron Nelson, Deborah J. Smith, John M. Dodd
Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders: Faculty Publications
The effects of a summary skills learning strategy on the comprehension of science text were examined with 5 elementary-age urban minority special education students in a summer remedial program. The program's effect on the overall completeness of the students' written summaries and the maintenance of the strategy also were examined. Following baseline, the summary skills strategy was introduced in both group and individual reading settings according to a multiple baseline across settings design. Student performance was assessed in both setting, and maintenance was probed at 4 weeks in the individual reading setting. The strategy produced clear improvement in the comprehension …

A lexicon is a dictionary or a list of words. Hence my use of "reflexive lexicon" or, more crisply, reflexicon, for a self-descriptive word list that describes its own own letter frequencies:

Identification And Characterization Of The Bovine Immunodeficiency-Like Virus Tat Gene, Zhen-Qian Liu, Deborah Sheridan, Charles Wood
Identification And Characterization Of The Bovine Immunodeficiency-Like Virus Tat Gene, Zhen-Qian Liu, Deborah Sheridan, Charles Wood
Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications
A cDNA clone of the bovine immunodeficiency-like virus (BW) trans-activator gene (tat) was identified and characterized. The tat cDNA clone was generated by splicing, and on the basis of sequence analysis, the Tat protein was found to be encoded entirely by the first exon. It is 103 amino acids in size and shares sequence homology with the human immunodeficiency virus (HW) Tat. The BIV tat clone can trans activate the BIV promoter effectively, as measured by the expression of the bacterial chloramphenicol acetyltransferase gene, when transfected into bovine cells. Besides activating the BIV promoter, the BIV Tat can also trans …
"Living Words": Samuel Taylor Coleridge And The Genesis Of The Oed, James C. Mckusick
"Living Words": Samuel Taylor Coleridge And The Genesis Of The Oed, James C. Mckusick
English Faculty Publications
Today we are at a crucial moment in the evolution of the Oxford English Dictionary, as the dog-eared volumes are withdrawn from library shelves and replaced by the sleek second edition of 1989. This new OED bears witness to the continuing relevance and utility of the "New English Dictionary on Historical Principles" for the current generation of literary scholars. The event of its publication provides an opportunity for a fresh historical perspective on the circumstances surrounding the production of the original OED, which was published between 1884 and 1928 in a series of 125 fascicles and bound up into those …
An Evaluation Of The Endocrine Response To Dystocia In The Primiparous Cow And Calf, Glenda M. Borcher
An Evaluation Of The Endocrine Response To Dystocia In The Primiparous Cow And Calf, Glenda M. Borcher
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Parturition is a very stressful event for both the cow and the calf. Endocrine changes occur which typically enable to calf to make the transition from a uterine to a gaseous environment. These endocrine changes are basic stress responses, necessary for an organism to maintain homeostasis. They include surges in catecholamine and cortisol secretion and changes in T3 secretion in response to temperature changes. It is well established that the stress response, if
prolonged, can become detrimental. Prolonged stress can result in muscle wasting, immune impairment and gastrointestinal ulceration. If parturition is delayed or particularly stressful due to environmental factors …
The Relationship Of Moral Reasoning Level Of Instructors To Their Teaching Style And Adult Student Perception Of The Learning Environment, Nancy Kay Teresa Gifford
The Relationship Of Moral Reasoning Level Of Instructors To Their Teaching Style And Adult Student Perception Of The Learning Environment, Nancy Kay Teresa Gifford
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between instructor moral reasoning level. teaching style. and adult students' perception of the classroom environment. Rest's Defining Issues Test
measured the independent variable, principled level of moral cognitive development. Teaching style was identified as either learner-centered or teacher-centered using Conti' s Principles of Adult Learning Scale.
Student perception of classroom environment was measured by Stern and Walker's Classroom Environment Index (Fonn 971). The possible influence of the demographic variables of (1) gender, 2) age range, and (3) level of education on principled moral reasoning level was explored. The
sample consisted …
