Event Frequency Estimations For Non-Semantic Items, Max Ingersoll
Event Frequency Estimations For Non-Semantic Items, Max Ingersoll
Modern Psychological Studies
In order to further clarify the roles of labeling and semantic processing in event frequency encoding, fifty-six undergraduate students were tested on their memory for frequency of sounds. One half of the subjects were presented with familiar sounds (i.e. a telephone ring or wind chimes) and the other half with single musical notes or tones. The use of tones was to defeat the attempts at semantic labeling of the stimuli. It was found that subjects in the familiar sounds condition displayed a significant ability at estimating event frequency. Subjects in the pure tones condition, however, displayed no such ability.

“Names, Hypocoristic,” In Anchor Bible Dictionary, Dana M. Pike

A hypocoristicon is generally a single-element name resulting from the shortening of an originally longer one. Hebrew names and Semitic names in general, were often composed of two elements (or, as was often the case in Akkadian names and sometimes the case with West Semitic ones, three elements) which formed a nominal or verbal sentence.

Triallylphosphine Plasma Polymerization And Reaction Of The Product With Volatile Transition Metal Compounds, S. D. Clymer, Nicholas C. Morosoff, A. L. Crumbliss
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The plasma polymerization of triallyl phosphine in order to form a crosslinked polymer thin film is described. The plasma polymer thin film has been characterized and shown to contain a high proporation of C=C and P groups conserved from the monomer. The accessibility of the phosphine groups has been demonstrated by reaction with O2, NO, Ni(CO)4, and Fe(CO)5. Reaction with O2, and NO results in a P=O moiety formation. Reaction with the gaseous metal carbonyls results in fixation of the metal via complexation by the P groups as a result of exchange …

A Survey Of Teaching Strategies Used In California Community College Nursing Programs To Foster Critical Thinking, Nicki Harrington Edd
A Survey Of Teaching Strategies Used In California Community College Nursing Programs To Foster Critical Thinking, Nicki Harrington Edd
Dissertations
This study explicated critical thinking teaching strategies being utilized by California Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) faculty, and their perceived effectiveness, to serve as a model for faculties in nursing and other disciplines. Questions addressed by the study included not only teaching strategies in use and their perceived effectiveness, but also exploration of common threads among nursing educators in their definitions of critical thinking, and common themes of "especially effective" techniques. The study involved a pilot of the survey instrument, utilizing one sample school's nursing faculty, with subsequent distribution to all 69 other ADN program senior nursing course lead faculty. The …

Leadership In A Different Voice: An Ethnographic Study Of A Latina Chief Executive Officer In A California Community College, Lois Margaret Knowlton Edd
Dissertations
The purpose of this ethnographic research was to discover the influence of President Judith Valles' gender and ethnicity on her leadership behavior at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California, and to determine if similar influences existed among the other eight Hispanic women presidents of community colleges in the U.S. A composite profile of the nine presidents was developed. More than 100 interviews were conducted from a broad spectrum of participants, including seven of the nine Hispanic women presidents. The researcher became a participant observer at Golden West College for the fall of 1991. All the presidents were strongly influenced …

The Supreme Court's First One Hundred Charter Of Rights Decisions: A Statistical Analysis, F. L. Morton, Peter H. Russell, Michael J. Withey
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
This study presents a descriptive statistical analysis of the Supreme Court of Canada's first one hundred Charter of Rights decisions (1982-1989). Charter appeals now constitute one-quarter of the Court's annual caseload. The Court has abandoned the judicial self-restraint that shaped its pre-Charter civil liberties jurisprudence. It has upheld rights claimants in 35 percent of its decisions and declared nineteen statutes void. Seventy-five percent of the Court's Charter work dealt with legal rights and criminal justice, but more provincial statutes were declared invalid than federal. After an initial period of consensus, the Court divided into identifiable voting blocs, with wide discrepancies …
Directors' Duty Of Care And The Business Judgment Rule: American Precedents And Australian Choices, Deborah A. Demott
Directors' Duty Of Care And The Business Judgment Rule: American Precedents And Australian Choices, Deborah A. Demott
Faculty Scholarship
Regardless of local differences in detail, directors occupy a central position in systems of corporate law. Significant and pervasive questions surround the expectations defined by the law for directors’ performance in office, along with the circumstances under which directors incur personal liability. This essay begins by explaining the development, in the United States, of the law defining the duty of care a director owes to a corporation, along with the circumstances under which a director will be personally liable for breaching that duty. It then examines the relevance of these developments to the current Australian context.
