Exploratory Investigation Of Contemporary Relational Evangelizers Within The Roman Catholic Church, Susan W. Blum
Exploratory Investigation Of Contemporary Relational Evangelizers Within The Roman Catholic Church, Susan W. Blum
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
Since 1975, when a new era of Catholic evangelization was initiated, a unique cohort of adult learners emerged. Adult religious educators were challenged to develop viable evangelization training programs for the laity. During the past fifteen years, a major andragogical problem has existed due to the lack of an empirical data base for this new constituency. Virtually nothing was known about trained relational evangelizers except that they existed. The primary purpose of this pioneer study was to investigate and compare a sample of trained relational evangelizers with a sample of untrained lay Catholics in five psychological/theological/behavioral characteristics and four demographic …
Fire That Creates: A Study Of Temperature Imagery And Its Effect On Symbolism And Characterization In Joyce's "A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man", Douglas Kelly Burgess
Fire That Creates: A Study Of Temperature Imagery And Its Effect On Symbolism And Characterization In Joyce's "A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man", Douglas Kelly Burgess
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
In A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Joyce undermines the reader's dependence on an omniscient narrator and demands his active interpretive participation. The reader is no longer led to a knowledge of character by author intrusion but must continuously work towards interpretation. Joyce relies upon imagery and associated symbolism to support the reader's understanding of the novel's central figure, Stephen Dedalus. He incorporates into the work a complex structure of symbolism built upon the repetition of the opposing images of heat and cold. These contrasting images are used to create a series of symbolic associations that not …
Free And Random Vibrations Of Shells Of Revolution With Interior Supports, Zhiyong. Xia
Free And Random Vibrations Of Shells Of Revolution With Interior Supports, Zhiyong. Xia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
A new analytical method based on the wave propagation scheme has been developed for the dynamic analysis of axially symmetric shells with arbitrary boundary conditions and interior supports. In this approach, a shell structure is considered as a waveguide and the response to external excitations is treated as a superposition of wave motions. To segregate the effect of the interior supports, the waveguide is first divided into several sub-waveguides. Upon analyzing these sub-waveguides separately, a composition scheme is adopted to relate them by connecting the wave components according to the continuity conditions for the state variables at each interior supports. …

French Marxists And Art And Literature, 1880-1914, Linda Harper Stratford
French Marxists And Art And Literature, 1880-1914, Linda Harper Stratford
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
An examination of French Marxists on art and literature reveals what was a previously neglected area of French Marxism: the degree to which the conflict of revolutionism versus reformism influenced a nonpolitical area of thought. Critical attitudes toward art and literature were inextricably conditioned by socialist factionalism in early Third Republic France. The arguments preventing socialist unity during this time period provided distinct and separate approaches to art and literary criticism, a phenomenon undetected in previous scholarship.
Growth Of Tilapia Mariae (Boulenger) Fry In Different Salinities, Eileen Leonor Garcia
Growth Of Tilapia Mariae (Boulenger) Fry In Different Salinities, Eileen Leonor Garcia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
Gradual salinity acclimatization and growth studies were performed on fry of the spotted tilapia, Tilapia mariae. First, fry were successfully brought to a salinity of 40%. in 8 weeks by gradual weekly increments of 5 %.. Second, fry were exposed separately for nine weeks to salinities of 0, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 30 %.. Fish grew best at 5 and 10 %. (p < 0.05) and least at 30 %.. At nine weeks, fish at 0, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 30%. appeared to be osmoregulating, as indicated by osmolarities of their inner body fluids. These results suggest that Tilapia mariae may become a competitive threat to fishes in native estuarine environments in southern Florida.
From Void To Plenty: A Phenomenological Approach To The Poetry Of Robert Bly, Donna Mary Samet
From Void To Plenty: A Phenomenological Approach To The Poetry Of Robert Bly, Donna Mary Samet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
Robert Bly's concern with wholeness of self connects him with the phenomenology of Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty. Bly's search for wholeness begins with his experimentation with the object and prose poem. The search continues and intensifies with poems that express unification of subject and object. Bly also sees language as a further manifestation of the outer and inner bounds of self. His search appears to rest in a fullness of being as represented in the beauty and importance of human relationships.

Glass Electrodes As A Sensor For Ph Of Porewater In Concrete, Radhakrishnan. Balamuralikrishna
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
Experiments were developed and performed to determine if glass electrodes can be employed to accurately measure pH of porewater in concrete. An attempt was made to determine the reason for the general underestimation of the alkalinity of porewater by one or more pH units when glass electrodes are used as sensors compared to the OH- concentration obtained from titration of pore solutions expressed from hydrated cement samples. The linear response and alkaline error of glass electrodes was investigated. pH was measured for mortar samples cast in air as well as under CO2-free conditions. A flat-surface combination electrode was mostly employed …
Hong Kong's Monetary Control System, Stanley C. Tang
Hong Kong's Monetary Control System, Stanley C. Tang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
This thesis is a study of the monetary control system in Hong Kong. One unique feature of that system is that it is without a central bank. Most economists have supposed that a monetary system without a central bank will be subject to price instability and inflation. The Hong Kong situation suggests that this need not be the case. Hong Kong's unique combination of bank and government controlled monetary practice provides an alternative way to accomplish the kind of monetary control that is found in economies with a central bank, like that in the United States. However, Hong Kong's monetary …

International Dependence, Basic Needs Provision, Inequality And Political Violence: A Cross-National Analysis, Thomas Dion Robinson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
A cross-national study examining both intra-and international determinants of collective political violence within nations was conducted in an effort to replicate and extend previous findings: that international factors indirectly (and directly) increase political violence through their effects on income inequality. The robustness of these findings was tested in a panel regression analysis by examining model respecifications and including new variables. The international variables tested indirectly affected political violence through income inequality. Earlier findings of a direct effect of income inequality on political violence were replicated and extended to an intra/international model of domestic political violence.

Low-Level And High-Level Correlation For Image Registration, Anil Dhirajlal Mandalia
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
The fundamental goal of a machine vision system in the inspection of an assembled printed circuit board is to locate the integrated circuit(IC) components. These components are then checked for their position and orientation with respect to a given position and orientation of the model and to detect deviations. To this end, a method based on a modified two-level correlation scheme is presented in this thesis. In the first level, Low-Level correlation, a modified two-stage template matching method is proposed. It makes use of the random search techniques, better known as the Monte Carlo method, to speed up the matching …
Hybrid Method Of Finite Element And Photoelasticity To Analyze Stress Concentrations On Threaded Cylinders, Julio Cesar Gonella
Hybrid Method Of Finite Element And Photoelasticity To Analyze Stress Concentrations On Threaded Cylinders, Julio Cesar Gonella
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 1990 - 1999
This paper studies the stress concentrations at the root of the threads of a cylinder. A photoelastic analysis using the stress freezing procedure is used to calculate the stress along the cylinder and the stress concentrations at the root of the threads. These values are compared to that of similar cylinders with different threaded configurations. A finite element model is built by using the photoelastic data to find a suitable load distribution along the threaded region. The finite element model predicted results similar to the photoelastic analysis and showed a method of reducing the stress concentrations on the threads by …
