Despite advances in surgical tech­nique, management of ruptured ten­don still presents a challenge and con­tinues to be among the most difficult rehabilitation management problem (Enwemeka, 1989 a). Unlike most soft tissues, tendons require several weeks of healing in plaster cast immo­bilization after surgical repair (Nistor, 1981). In cases of Achilles tendon rup­tures, the period of immobilization may last as long as 12 weeks, produc­ing muscle atrophy , articular cartilage atrophy, skin necrosis and tendocuta-neous adhesions {Garden et al., 1987). The foetal trophoblast behaves as a homograft in the maternal host, yet it survives. This referes to modulation of maternal immune system to antigeni-cally foreign foetus and placenta. Vari­ous investigations demonstrated slight depression of maternal immune sys­tem during pregnancy, but the mother does not develop specific immunologi-cal tolerance to the foetus. The de­pression was expressed by increased number of suppressor cells (Moore et al.,1983), reduced activity of natural killer (Gall, 1983). Rocklin et al. (1976) demonstrate the prescence of immunologic block­ing factor in the sera of normal preg­nant multigravida women. This factor is absent from the sera of untrans- fused …

Non papillary insitu carcinoma of urothelium denudes unusually easily. This uncovering produces a character­istic, syndrome of intractable antibio­tic-resistant bacterial cystitis with a granular and velvet appearance on cystoscopy. the exposed stroma histo-logically demonstrate vasodilatation, oedema and leucocytic infiltration re-suiting in clinical symptoms which are the same as those of benign cystitis due to other causes (Riddle et al., 1979; Ooms et al,, 1986 and Boob et al., 1986). The study included 731 full term babies aged 1-6 days, presented with hyperbilirubinaemia (S.bilirubin > 12 mg/dl) in the period from 1985 to 1989. The babies and their mothers were subjected to I) full history taking and thorough clinical examination 2) determination of S. bi Itrubtn, Hb% and reticulocyte count in infants 3) blood group typing ABO, Rho and antibody screening for mothers and babies, tn some instances they were typed for other blood group systems. 4) IgG an­tibodies (anti-A and anti-B) was done in ABO incompatible pregnancies. Acute renal failure after biliary tract surgery was first described by Clair-mont and VonHaberer {1911}. The cause of supression of renal function in patients with obstructive jaundice is controversial. Dawson (1964) sug­gested deficient renal perfusion. He reported significant improvement of kindey function following mannitol diu­resis. Endotoxaemia has a deleterious effect on renal function and structure. Endotoxaemia is due to absence of bile salts from the small itestine (Cavanough et at. 1970) and Mckay et al. (1966). Amoebiasis is a major health prob­lem. In Egypt an incidence of 8.9-31% was reported In Dakahlia Governo-rate, Sheir et al. (1979) found that the incidence of amaebiasis was 62.5%. Patients with invasive amaebiasis suf­fer from intestinal ulceration with hea-matophagues trophozoites in their stools (Rees, 1986). Sera of patients with invasive amaebiasis or harbouring pathogenic strains of E. histolytica contain specific anti-amoebic antibodies, while those harbouring non pathogenic strains are usually serologicaliy negative (Healy, 1971; Nilson et al., 1980 and Jackson, 1985). Despite advances in modern blood banking procedures and all precau­tions taken, a small but significant number ot blood transfusions are still complicated by various kinds of ad­verse reactions, some patients with transfusion dependent disease be­comes difficult to transfuse due to multiple blood group antibodies, also the haemolytic reactions are serious and potentially harmful to patients having these antibodies {Hu.h and Lichtiger, 1987). In March 1982 she was found to have active polyarthritis af­fecting mainly the hands, right wrist and right shoulder , and rheumatoid oedema of the feet. Her blood pres­sure was 140/80. Recently Seegers et al, (1979) re­ported that concurrent administration of paracetamol with aspirin resulted in decreased gastric acidity indueed by aspirin in rats, this effect is due to stimulation of endogenous production of prostaglandins produced by para­cetamol. The work of Seegers et al. (1979) was based on the observations of Bobak et al. (1978) and Me Donald et al., (1979) that paracetamol could stimulate the prostaglindin sythetase of bovine seminal vesicles in vitro. Multiple risk factors ware found to affect the prognosis of soft tissue sar­coma. They include age, sex, histolog-ic type and grade, tumour site and size (Rooseretal., 1988). Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common pediatric soft tissue sarcoma (Young and Miller, 1975). Overall sur­vival rates have increased from less than 20 % in 1960 to as high as 70 % { Creen and Jaffe, 1978 ). Springs and wells in SW and S part of Cyprus were briefly surveyed. Chlorinity was 0.1 - 0.8 p.p.t. Some isopods were found in collecting galleries of springs and in wells in calcarenites and in gravel deposits. These were Proasellus coxalis ssp. with some depigmented specimens, the probably stygobitic P. c. nanus ssp. n., poorly pigmented Jaera italica, and Microcharon luciae n. sp.; they were accompanied by the stygobitic amphipod Bogidiella cypria, by Turbellaria (Tricladida), by Copepoda (Cyclopoida), and rarely by some other animals (Pisidium sp., Oligochaeta). Redundancy has a bad reputation among legal intellectuals. When someone says, for example, that the ninth and tenth amendments are redundant, we can be pretty sure that this person attaches little importance to these constitutional provisions. Listen to one of the definitions of redundant provided by the Oxford English Dictionary: "superabundant, superfluous, excessive."' In this essay, the author proposes that legal theorists pay serious attention to the concept of redundancy used by engineers. He explains how redundancy--in this special sense--is essential to any intellectual enterprise in which we try to reach action-guiding conclusions, including the enterprise of law. The author …

Accounting faculty have long debated the usefulness and appropriateness of their teaching endeavor. One of the central themes in this continuing discussion is that of teaching concepts versus teaching applications of current accounting principles. In order to empirically address this issue, students' attitudes toward the conceptual aspects and toward the practical application aspects of financial accounting were assessed. This research also reports on the development and validation of an instrument that measures attitudes of students toward these aspects of financial accounting. The instrument demonstrated high reliability with both intermediate and introductory students. Intermediate students were found to distinguish between attitudes …
