Kesusasteraan pengembaraan adalah amat popular dalam abad kelapan belas. Menerusi peninjauannya terhadap perkara - perkara yang pelbagai dan yang belum diketahui, kesusasteraan pengembaraan membayangkan dengan tepatnya semangat ingin tahu dan belajar yang merupakan diantara ciri-ciri utama zaman abad kelapan belas. In between 1984 and 1985, Singapore encounter economic depression but by the middle of 1986, the economic condition was gradually restored from the recession and by 1987 encounter economic boom. According to the Singapore Economic Trend Report dated 1. 7. 1986, Singapore G.D.P increase from 1.8% in 1986 to 8.8% in 1987. All sectors especially the manufacturing sector have achieved high prestige. This thesis details the development of an expert system for the diagnosis of diseases in fibre and dairy goats. Divided into five sections, five appendices, and a bibliography, this thesis centres on the methods used to build the expert system: the decisions taken at the outset of, and during the course of, development; some of the problems encountered, and the solutions to those problems. The problem addressed by this research project is expressed in two parts. Firstly an examination of the pastoral care needs of students at a particular independent secondary school. Secondly, an examination of the needs of the teachers (as providers of pastoral care) who are attempting to understand and deal with the pastoral needs of the students. The research takes the form of a bounded case study, employing techniques of data gathering and analysis from each of the positivistic and naturalistic paradigms. The main aims of this thesis are twofold. First, to identify and describe misconceptions about chemical equilibrium held by Year-12 chemistry students in the Maldives. Second, to investigate the effects of using a computer-assisted instructional strategy in changing those misconceptions. A misconception idenfication test and an interview schedule developed by Garnett & Hackling (1984) were used to diagnose student misconceptions about chemical equilibrium. The remediation aspect of the study used a computer-assisted instruction (CAI) package. The package was designed in accordance with a model of conceptual change proposed by Posner, Strike, Hewson & Gertzog (1982). The CAI package consists of …

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the perceived locus of control and job satisfaction of Appalachian school principals in the states of West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The total population for the study was 2,649 principals. The sample utilized in this study consisted of 333 principals. Each participant was mailed a survey packet containing a cover letter, a demographics sheet, and two questionnaires. The questionnaires used were the Adult Nowicki-Strickland I-E Scale (Nowicki & Duke, 1974) and the Mohrman-Cooke-Mohrman Job Satisfaction Scales (Mohrman, Cooke, Mohrman, Duncan & Zaltman, 1977). Historically, the role of the states have reflected the desires of its residents in the formulation of public policy. Currently, as a result of the devolution of federal programs under the Reagan Administration, the environment that the states operate is expanding--including greater programmatic discretion, regulatory enforcement, and monetary generation capabilities. This dissertation has evaluated one area in which the states are afforded such discretionary powers--long term health care provision for the elderly financed via Medicaid. The purpose of this study was to determine the historical development of associate degree nursing education in West Virginia and to analyze this development for particular themes or concepts. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and examination of records and documents. After the data were collected, the data were analyzed and the findings were reported. At present, there are nine associate degree nursing programs in West Virginia accepting approximately 600 students per year. Geographically these programs are distributed throughout the state. The purpose of this study was to compare the perceptions of mothers of preterm infants with the perceptions of the mothers of term infants, and to identify the variables related to these perceptions that may place these infants at increased risk for later psychosocial problems. The Neonatal Perception Inventory (NPI II), a simple, often-used assessment of maternal perceptions, was used for this study. Subjects were 36 mothers of healthy, term infants and 14 mothers of healthy, preterm infants who delivered at a regional perinatal center. This investigation examined a model of Burgoon's Violation of Expectancy theory (Burgoon, 1978; Burgoon & Hale, 1987) as applied to the instructional context. Students' perceptions of teacher nonverbal immediacy were used in conjunction with the Expectancy Violation Model to predict amount of student learning. At the beginning of a term, students were asked to complete questionnaires assessing the expected level of nonverbal immediacy for one of their instructors. One week later, and at midterm, students were asked to complete questionnaires assessing the level of nonverbal immediacy evidenced by their instructors and the students' perceptions of the amount of learning that …

Investigations of treatment compliance among pediatric cancer patients have indicated that noncompliance to treatment is a significant problem in this population. Some researchers have suggested that compliance to treatment may be significantly influenced by the complexity of the treatment regimen. The purpose of this investigation was to: (a) develop and assess the efficacy of a prospective parent self-monitoring measure to assess compliance to the entire treatment regimen, (b) develop two physician-completed measures to assess the complexity of childhood cancer treatment regimens, and (c) investigate the relationship between current and overall medical regimen complexity and compliance to treatment among a sample …

This dissertation investigates a little known aspect of American diplomacy--America's interest in East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean during the colonial period. The study explores the historical link between the United States and Eastern Africa from the 1820s until 1929. Many scholars, aware of America's increased commercial and military involvement with East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean since the end of World War II, have attributed the American presence there to the Cold War struggles between the Soviet Union and the United States. Niphargus numerus sp. n. from the Čavlinska pećina near Obrovac (Dalmatia) and N. factor sp. n. from Vjetrenica (Hercegovina) are described. Both new species from Yugoslav caves belong to the N. transitivus aggregate of species.

Troglobius coprophagus n. g., n. sp. a cave Collembola from Madagascar is characterized by an elongate and serrate mucro, a non spines dens. Description and illustrations of the new genus and species are given. Some ecological data of this highly cave adapted species is also included.
