Para-Proxemic Attributions: An Investigation Into The Relationship Between Close-Up And Extreme Close-Up Camera Shots And Audience Response., David Mitchell Klein
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine if there were differences in para-proxemic attributions (effectations based upon the relative distance of a media source) to the extreme close-up as opposed to the close-up camera shots. Differences in audience response by sex of subject were found. Two stimuli were simultaneously videotaped of a man making an informative speech. The first tape was composed of establishing shots and extreme close-up shots. The second tape was comprised of establishing shots and close-up shots. The establishing shots were constant in both tapes. In the first tape a cut from the establishing shot to …

Music Criticism In The New York Times And The New York Tribune, 1851-1876., Mark Curtis Mcknight
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Reports and comments on daily events in newspapers provide an invaluable tool in the study of a particular period or area of research. This study is concerned with the music reviews in two New York newspapers, the Times and the Tribune, between 1851 and 1876. This period in the history of the United States was above all one of transition. Social upheaval prevailed as a result of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery. In addition, America was rapidly gaining ascendancy in science, technology, and as a major political power. This evolution at the broader national level was accompanied …

A Sourcebook For The Production Of Musical Dramas And Programs In The Elementary School, Carole Elizabeth Bradley
Theses and Dissertations
The search for educational goals in music productions leads the teacher to a variety of sources for guidance: publications, workshops, and other teachers. None of these sources alone are adequate to the task. The need, then, is to bring together all of this information into one sourcebook. It is this sourcebook that the present study has endeavored to provide.
The purpose of this study has been to develop a sourcebook of practical information for the production of elementary musical dramas and programs and to provide general principles of production as a guide for music teachers. Criteria for creative environments which …

Exploration In Design, Graphic Communications And The Creative Process, Starla A. Stensaas
Masters Theses
In lieu of the traditional thesis, I have chosen to culminate the Master of Arts in Related Arts program with a creative project and a paper that describes and evaluates the completion of the project. The project involved a personal aesthetic and technical development of the aesthetic in graphic design and communications. Documentation of the creative arts project is presented in a portfolio which includes graphic designs, publications, and news feature stories. The project is interdisciplinary in that it involves skills in art (design) and English (writing) as well as effective interdisciplinary communication skills necessary to produce interdepartmental publications.

The Deseret Alphabet And Other American Spelling Reform Movements, Paula Goodfellow
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
Everyone that uses the English language has trouble with spelling at one time of another; most people have trouble with it all the time. The may complain about the inconsistencies of English orthography (orthography is a fancy word for the art of spelling) as they reach for the dictionary, but not many people do anything about it. However, a few do try to do something. With some it may become an obsession. This paper is about the various attempts of some of these people to reform spelling.
It is traditional in papers about spelling reform to stop at this point …
