Research And Development Of A Music-Movement Syllabus For Gymnasts And Gymnastic Coaches, Pauline Mcmillan Upjohn

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Personal participation in floor exercise choreography and performance, observation of performances by other gymnasts, and conversations 'With other; coaches, and gymnasts· have intensified the author's awareness of a widespread lack of knowledge and understanding about the interpretation and use of music in floor exercise. When choreographing optional floor exercise routines, coaches and gymnasts have difficulty selecting appropriate music, interpreting the music, and choreographing routines to complement the music. Even after routines are finally developed, many of them lack style, originality, amplitude, flow, precision of rhythm and execution, and expressiveness. Many of these qualities are also lacking in the performance of …

Criminal Procedure In Alaska, Jeff M. Feldman Jan 1980

Criminal Procedure In Alaska, Jeff M. Feldman

Articles

Two years ago this review published an article which reviewed search and seizure law in Alaska. Because the local barand bench seem to have found that article to be useful, it appeared worthwhile to put together a similar review of the remainder of Alaska's law of criminal procedure. Like its predecessor, this article will review and analyze the law of criminal procedure in Alaska, isolating those areas in which the Alaska Legislature or the Alaska Supreme Court has departed from the prevailing approach to procedure in criminal cases and predicting probable outcomes to procedural issues still unresolved in Alaska.

This examination looks at the sufficiency of the press's claim of judicial harshness, whether the press should be treated differently than other speakers, and also compares press freedom in foreign nations.

The Covenant Not To Sue: Virginia's Effort To Bury The Common Law Rule Regarding The Release Of Joint Tortfeasors, Linda Flory Rigsby Jan 1980

The Covenant Not To Sue: Virginia's Effort To Bury The Common Law Rule Regarding The Release Of Joint Tortfeasors, Linda Flory Rigsby

University of Richmond Law Review

The 1979 Virginia General Assembly turned the last shovel of earth onto the grave of the common law "release rule"' by adopting the covenant not to sue as a viable settlement device in joint tortfeasor actions. By this statutory adoption, Virginia became the last state to recognize, either by statute or judicial mandate, that a properly drawn covenant not to sue can act to release one or more tortfeasors without automatically releasing all those tortfeasors liable for the same injury or wrongful death. Judicial interpretations of the covenant not to sue, particularly those of California, Michigan and North Carolina, will …

Identification Of Teacher Concerns Toward Remediation Of Dialect-Related Reading Difficulties And Instructional Techniques Employed, Yvette C. Lewis Jan 1980

Identification Of Teacher Concerns Toward Remediation Of Dialect-Related Reading Difficulties And Instructional Techniques Employed, Yvette C. Lewis

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The issue of reading failure among Black children, particularly those of urban areas, has been a consistent concern among educators and parents. Reasons as to why these children do not, as a group, achieve comparably with national norms relate heavily to the style of oral language they employ. Explanations given by experts in the areas of education and linguistics are derived from two models of reading behavior postulated by Weiner and Cromer (1967), the deficit model of reading failure among Black children which attributes their difficulty to the absence of adequate Standard English language skills, and the difference model, which …
