Recognition Under Section 501(C)(3) Of The Internal Revenue Code As A Prerequisite To Arts Grants: A Special Problem For Literary Publishers And Art Galleries, Michael E. Skindrud
Cleveland State Law Review
This Article will examine the origin and impact of section 501(c)(3)recognition as a prerequisite to arts grants. Arts organizations which have the most difficulty obtaining recognition under section 501(c)(3) include small presses and literary magazines, organizations which assist visual artists with marketing, and certain arts service organizations. Their special problems in obtaining recognition will be examined. This Article suggests the appropriate test for recognition of exemption under section 501(c)(3) for organizations whose sole activity is a business which furthers their exempt purposes. This includes most small presses and literary magazines. The appropriate test is whether an exempt purpose, or profit, …
Performer's Right Of Publicity: A Limitation On News Privilege, Becky Moses
Performer's Right Of Publicity: A Limitation On News Privilege, Becky Moses
Cleveland State Law Review
The right of publicity protects an individual's right to control the use of a personal asset such as his name, likeness, or performance, which has acquired pecuniary value through the investment of time, effort, or money. Although this right has gained increasing recognition since the 1950's, it has often been confused with the right of privacy, out of which the right of publicity evolved. In Zacchini v. Scripps-Howard Broadcasting Co., the United States Supreme Court held that the news media is not privileged under the first and fourteenth amendments to broadcast a performer's entire act without his consent. It is …

Contemporary Spanish American Drama Of Denunciation And Social Protest: The Case Of Argentina And Chile, Juan Ramón Layera
Graduate Dissertations and Theses
This study deals with the Latin American theater of social protest and denunciation, one of the most recurrent and representative variants of contemporary Latin American drama. The introductory analysis attempts to show the significance of this style of dramatic composition in the general context of Latin American literature. The introductory survey is followed by a comparative analysis of the dramatic production by Agustín Cuzzani and Sergio Vodanovic, representative authors of contemporary Argentine and Chilean drama, respectively.
Both the introductory overview and the comparative analysis of Cuzzani’s and Vodanovic’s works serve the two-fold function of demonstrating the value of the new …

Assessing Student Co-Curricular Needs And Interests Through An Objective Method, Peter J. Mccann
Assessing Student Co-Curricular Needs And Interests Through An Objective Method, Peter J. Mccann
Master's Theses
Problem
Previous research has shown that when potential dropouts are actively involved in the school program, the dropout rate is reduced. Co-curricular activities have been found to be the most effective method of getting potential dropouts involved. The problem has been that implementation of co-curricular activities has relied on the subjective value judgment of administrators. This project attempted to develop an objective method for assessing student co-curricular needs and interests.
Method
There were three phases to this project. The first phase was an extensive review of the literature in order to determine factual evidence. The second phase was the development …

Melodrama In The Secondary Schools, Louis Becker
Melodrama In The Secondary Schools, Louis Becker
Iowa Journal of Communication
Unfortunately an all too common situation will be repeated this fall in our schools, a situation which has been the bane of many a beginning English teacher in the past. When the time comes to designate extra duties and assignments, the principal has only to look to his first-year English teacher to find the director of the SCHOOL PLAYS! Limited perhaps more by a lack of training and background than imagination and talent, the teacher frantically searches for that "cheap, easy play" as a first go. And so we see the teacher - soon-to-become-director poised at the brink of plunging …

Oyotunji Village: The Yoruba Movement In America., Carl Monroe Hunt
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Oyotunji Village, the Yoruba movement in America, is a history of the life of Oseijeman Adefunmi, (Walter Serge King), and the Yoruba movement he founded. Although this movement concentrates mainly on cultural nationalism, it has similarities to nineteenth and early twentieth century Black Nationalist movements. These similarities include their attempts to bring about change thru the rejection of American culture, the establishment of all-Black governments within America or Africa, the acceptance of African or Asiatic culture, and the rejection of the name Negro as a means of identifying their national origin. Adefunmi, the founder of the Yoruba movement, was born …

Creative Dramatics As A Language Facilitating Technique, Gail J. Richard
Creative Dramatics As A Language Facilitating Technique, Gail J. Richard
Masters Theses
Children's communication development has attracted a great deal of attention in the last few years. Research has begun to make advances in what we know about children's speech, language, and hearing abilities. It has been proposed that children are most interested (and probably learn most) while playing. As a result, the idea of play therapy gained recognition. Creative dramatics is a specific area or technique that can include a child's play and can incorporate specific language objectives and goals. The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of creative dramatic experiences on the expressive verbal language scores of …

Is poetry art or is art poetry? Or what is poetry? What is art? There is art in creating poetry. And there are the poetic elements in creating painting/any form of art.
I have been involved in writing poetry since I was in high school. My first poem was published in 1965. During that time I also received formal training in art. Writing poetry to me then was only putting together words and phrases into ideas and stories. And painting to me at that time was selecting and juxtaposing colors into beautiful pictures on canvas.
Man changes in ideas, ideals …

Masters Theses
School District 205 has erased a large portion of their videotaped library on advice of the district lawyer. The faculty survey shows that the programs would be of value for …
