The Ethical Criteria Apparently Assumed As Valid By Various Economic Theories Of Wages, Herbert L. Abbott Jan 1934

The Ethical Criteria Apparently Assumed As Valid By Various Economic Theories Of Wages, Herbert L. Abbott

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is eminently logical that the bare first word of this essay should be as to the philosophical motive that makes it appear interesting and fruitful. If we let two circles represent, respectively, the fields of ethics and economics, it seems probable that they will somehow intersect, providing an area common to both. It is this presumptive borderland of ethics and economics that we intend to study under conditions of restricted method and scope. It should be confessed at once that our efforts will be necessarily and rigorously theoretical, our essay is one of partial clarification of the ethical character …

A Study In Social Distance In A Typical Mormon Community, Anthon Steffensen Cannon

The purpose of this study is to measure the amount of social distance found in a typical Mormon community, and to investigate the influence of the so-called "Mormon Church" upon the prejudices of its members towards other races and religions. It also aims to experiment with a techique for re-conditioning social distance in order to increase the degree of sympathetic understanding of persons for other groups of people.

A Brief History Of Curry County, New Mexico, Norvell Glynn Tate Jan 1934

A Brief History Of Curry County, New Mexico, Norvell Glynn Tate

History ETDs

If the ranchers of the eighties and nineties were to return now, they would find a vastly changed country. No longer is it an area of large ranches and open ranges. The barbed wire and the "nester" have triumphed. It is now a farming country built around Clovis, the county seat. Clovis has grown from a railroad switch to a town of approximately eight thousand population. Paved roads run across the county in the place of the cow trails. There has been no "boom" period for the county, but years of consistent growth. Not all the years have been good …

Education Of The American Indian By The United States, Florence Barbee Lundquist Jan 1934

Education Of The American Indian By The United States, Florence Barbee Lundquist

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

But for the Rennaisance there would be no atory of the Indians in these United States. Our American poet, Joaquin Miller, makes clear the hazards of adventurers incident to the discovery of an unknown people: My men grow mutinous day by day; My men grow ghastly wan and weak. The stout mate thought of home; a spray Of Balt wave washed his swarthy cheek. "What shall I say, • brave Admiral, say, If we sight naught but seas at dawn?" "Why you shall, say at break of day, Sail on! Sail on.

The purpose of the investigation has been to discover the trends of property taxes …

The Effect Of Fertilizer Applications On The Quality And The Quantity Of The Oil In Flaxseed, Clarence O. Stockland

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The flax plant produces an oil-bearing seed which yields either by pressure or by extraction an oil which is used chiefly in the manufacture of paints and varnishes, and in the manufacture of linoleum, oil cloth, printer's ink, and patent leather. The oil obtained from flexseed is known as linseed oil and is one of a class of fatty oils known as drying oil. When exposed to the air the oil absorbs oxygen, forming a compound known ad linoxyn which constitutes …
