The Birth And Growth Of Indo-Anglian Literature And Its Contributions To English Literature, Marie O'Loughlin
The Birth And Growth Of Indo-Anglian Literature And Its Contributions To English Literature, Marie O'Loughlin
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Western civilization has been influenced by Indian thought in two ways - one through the Greeks, and the other through modern English scholarship. The former has affected us but slightly, being the result of oral interchange, rather than of immediate literary borrowing, - thus passing only indirectly into our system. The latter is reacting upon English literature today in a manner and to an extent which seems not to have been fully realized by either the East or the West.
India still remains the western world something of a mystery, a succession of romantic and gorgeous pictures, or a fantastic …
Pottery In Fifteen Lessons, Agnes Daponte Berne
Pottery In Fifteen Lessons, Agnes Daponte Berne
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Although the subject of pottery would appear to the layman to be one of complicated formulas and difficult technical requirements, it is possible to reduce the on- tire procedure to a series of simple, logical processes. To do this is the purpose for which this thesis has been undertaken.
It seems advisable to reduce the entire subject of elementary pottery to fifteen lessons, for two reasons. (1) The instructor who must teach the subject in one semester of eighteen weeks will be enabled by this plan to cover the subject logically and completely if she will adhere to the divisions …
A History Of The Productions Of The Little Theatre, 1933-1935, Demarcus Brown
A History Of The Productions Of The Little Theatre, 1933-1935, Demarcus Brown
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The growth of interest in drama and the realization of the educational value of dramatics has developed a new place for the college theatre. Pacific Little Theatre was organized eleven years ago to fulfill a definite need and has since grown slowly and steadily into a most active producing unit, serving both school and community. Indeed Pacific Little Theatre can be taken as an excellent specific example of the contribution which can be made to campus and community life by the college aside from its main function as fundamental ground for students in the theatre arts.
The Big Navy Idea In The United States Since The World War, Ray Gladstone Lawrence
The Big Navy Idea In The United States Since The World War, Ray Gladstone Lawrence
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
While there has been a steady movement toward disarmament, and for limitation in this and other lands, with peace pacts to prevent war, naval agreements, treaties and similar moves, there is still a definite need for consideration of our naval defenses. In this discussion, a compilation of public opinions and tendencies, as found in publications, I will tend to show there is considerable interest in our Navy.
This material is not projected as an argument against reasonable limitations, nor an attack: on those advocating; but to reproduce a part of the attitudes of public writing and speaking of our people. …
Probolitrema Tomalis Sp. Nov. (Trematoda) From Dasyatis Dipterura And Brachylaemus Virginianus (Dickerson) (Trematoda) From Didelphys Virginiana, Elsie Mae Graves
Probolitrema Tomalis Sp. Nov. (Trematoda) From Dasyatis Dipterura And Brachylaemus Virginianus (Dickerson) (Trematoda) From Didelphys Virginiana, Elsie Mae Graves
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The genus Probolitrema was established by Looss (1901) in recognition of the location of vitellaria and multiple testes entirely outside the extra caecal field in Anaporrhutum richardii Lopez (1888) which differentiated it from A.albidum Ofenheim (1900) with the vitellaria within and the testes partly within and partly without the intra-caecal field. Ofenhein had created the genus Anaporrhutum for the above two species because of their multiple testes. A.albidum was a new species described by him; his A.richiardii Lopez specimens he considered to be the same species as Distomum richiardii Lopez, described in detail by Monticelli in 1893. Looss pointed out …

The five high school subjects were English, mathematics, social science, science, and foreign language.
The Influence Of The Lockian Empiricism On The Theology Of Alexander Campbell, William J. Moore
The Influence Of The Lockian Empiricism On The Theology Of Alexander Campbell, William J. Moore
Graduate Thesis Collection
Modern scholarship, in its effort to render a true account of the facts of existence, has placed much emphasis on what is sometimes called the historical method of study. The presupposition of this method is that the essence of reality lies in development, growth, and adaptation, whether the reality sought is that of an organic formation, an institution, or an idea. It is assumed that one cannot satisfactorily understand a thing until one knows the sources from which it sprang, the processes by which it came into being, and the changes which it has experienced in becoming adapted to its …

The Influence Of Cyrano De Bergerac's "Voyages To The Sun And The Moon" On Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels", Nancy Crampton
Graduate Thesis Collection
It has been claimed by the French that Cyrano de Bergerac was the source for Jonathan Swift's GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. In the following paper an effort will be made to show the Englishman's indebtedness to the French writer, but in so doing it will be necessary to give some of the more indirect influences upon de Bergerac as well as upon Swift.

The Need Of Periodic Physical Health Examination For Teachers In Indiana, Eugenia F. Bossong

The present study is an outgrowth of an interest in the efforts of educators to improve the educational system in the United States of America. Education in the United States has made advancement and is still doing so. The increasing number of junior high schools is indicative of progress in one line. More and better equipped buildings give greater opportunities to the school children today. The school attendance law insures a greater attendance as does also the improved facilities of transportation.

Early Commerce Of Southern Indiana, Grace C. Campbell
Graduate Thesis Collection
The purpose of this paper is to give an approximate idea of the extent to which commerce developed between southern Indiana and the South prior to the period beginning with 1850, as well as to show how this mutual interdependence led to the formation of strong economic ties between the two sections. There is also an attempt made to show that this economic interest strengthened the social ties naturally resulting from the fact that a large percentage of the early settlers of southern Indiana came from beyond the Ohio River.

Governor Wright was the real champion of the State Fair, the State Board of Agriculture, and of the county societies and fairs in Indiana.
Causes Of Irregular Attendance And Truancy In The Indianapolis Public Schools, Carrie B. Martin
Causes Of Irregular Attendance And Truancy In The Indianapolis Public Schools, Carrie B. Martin
Graduate Thesis Collection
The schools realize that they have scarcely touched the problem of attendance due to the fact that the public is not willing to pay for more trained workers. However it is a serious problem and there are many causes underlying the difficulty. Since truancy is the first overt act in violation of the law and irregular attendance is expensive to the system as well as to the children, conditions should be improved as soon as possible and the causes eliminated in so far as it is feasible. A study of conditions is important and urgent.

In the history of man, the problem of deviation from the normal or social standard of behavior has been ever-present, necessitating recognition and consideration. Science has shown that intelligence levels vary on both sides of the postulated. Children’s behavior likewise varies; it has been classified by legal distinction into non-delinquent (normal) and delinquent, the latter so different from the standards set up by society that the child becomes an object of apprehension and potential danger to the well-being of the group as well as to his or her own existence in society. The classifications cited above are the products of …
