Health Programs In Relation To The Doctor And Patient, Robert F. Mac Beath

Bachelors’ Theses

In this complicated and swift moving life we lead today, sickness and its too oft companion death, play an important and seemingly unavoidable part. Babes in arms, children, the more rapid youth, the middle aged in their established march, and the faltering old; all are the target of the encroachments of sickness and few or none escape it in their lifes journey. These encroachments may range all the way from a slight inconvenience to those ailments which cause death either ultimately or immediately. The list of these diseases known to medical science in their names alone fill a large book. …

The History And Treatment Of The English Drama During The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries, Leonard Francis Sommers Apr 1936

The History And Treatment Of The English Drama During The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries, Leonard Francis Sommers

Bachelors’ Theses

Thia chapter will deal with the earlier sources of information about the dramatic companies. The provincial towns of England are the best sources of information about the English companies of drama. Reference to the drama usually appeared in the Court books of the corporation, also in the account books, or even letter-books. The reason for this is not hard to understand, for when a dramatic company visited a provincial town, their first duty was to present their license to the Mayor and also to his court of Aldermen, so that they could obtain permission to play. It is obvious therefore, …

A Study Of Tenement House Laws Of New York And Wisconsin And A Survey Of Enforcement, S. W. Swinkin

The Democratic Party In Wisconsin, Mary M. Lawler

The purpose of this thesis is to show that despite the fact that in Wisconsin the Democratic party has been in power for so few years compared to the Republican party, they are still a prominent party, working for the progress of the state and are worthy of study. In order to accomplish this I have discussed briefly the early history of the Democratic party in the United States. I have then touched upon its very early life in the territory of Wisconsin and its importance in the early years of statehood. I have taken, rather than the entire span …

Plays For Young Children, Edna S. Soper Apr 1936

Plays For Young Children, Edna S. Soper

Bachelors’ Theses

The dramatic instinct is a prime force in civilization; the need to give vent to pent-up emotion, to express joy of living, to put in material form the ideas that vex his spirit, has driven man to imitate and to create. Primitive people expressed this need in songs and dances. Civilization restrains and suppresses the voluntary expression of emotion that seeks outlet in various ways. But it cannot be wholly stifled. Man feels the need to seek excitement and emotional experience sometimes in the mere satisfaction of curiosity. This is a response to a need and desire felt everywhere and …

The American Short Story From 1925 Through 1930, James A. Papin Apr 1936

The American Short Story From 1925 Through 1930, James A. Papin

Bachelors’ Theses

Reaction from the war, from its hysteria, its horror, brought on changes in morals and manners. The bars were down. Hide bound morality was considered old fashioned. Abandon was the watch word of the age. Old standards, accepted during the nineties, were cast aside, and recklessness, spice, zest, replaced conservative conduct. As the height of the change was reached in the latter twenties, the reaction took a definite form. What had been reaction for reactions sake, now became a crystallized reaction with definite limits. "If our younger writers were simply content to raise a standard of revolt against tradition, their …

When one inspects a Chiton, an oyster, a snail, an octopus, or a …

History Of The Progressive Party In Wisconsin, Robert Thomas Webster Apr 1936

History Of The Progressive Party In Wisconsin, Robert Thomas Webster

Bachelors’ Theses

Many years ago when the western portion of the United States was still undeveloped and the land was only open to the braver hearts, there arose a group of men who had suffered from the aftermath of the Civil War. After that war, like after so many others, there were reactions that, if uncontrolled, would rend asunder the whole structure of American civilization. The conditions that gave birth to these third party movements were the condition of agriculture and the desire for silver. The men of the west had fought in the Civil War and had returned home to find …

The British-Italian-Ethiopian Dispute, Helen Dorothy Cutting Apr 1936

The British-Italian-Ethiopian Dispute, Helen Dorothy Cutting

Bachelors’ Theses

Early in October, 1935 Italy began a war of conquest which had been announced sometime before. The general purposes of it were known to the foreign offices for about a year. However, nothing was done by the great powers or the League of Nations to drive home to Mussolini the fact that he would be met with organized resistance. Mussolini came to the conclusion that he would be showered with resolutions of disapproval and then allowed to proceed.

True, the League did not stop the war. Instead of forbidding Mussolini to move his army to Ethiopia by closing the Suez …

Topographical Anatomy Of Ostrea Virginica, Harry J. Barnett

Bachelors’ Theses

The oyster is important for at least three reasons. First, it is important to the zoologist; second, it is a food which has developed million dollar enterprises; and third, the oyster is a domestic resource for the pearl and its allied industries. The oyster is a bivalve Mollusk, having symmetry in the larval stage but losing it in the adult stage. It has one large adductor muscle, somewhat posterior from the ligament which holds both valves together. The left valve forms a deeper pit than the right one as it is in the left valve that the oyster lies. It …

Mechanism Vs. Vitalism, William Francis Hegner Apr 1936

Mechanism Vs. Vitalism, William Francis Hegner

Bachelors’ Theses

A problem that had always interested philosophers and scientists was the problem of life; in spite of the development of knowledge during the past centuries, men were apparently not advancing in a very noticeable degree beyond the explanation of Aristotle in regard to this leading issue. Men had always recognized the difference between living and non-living matter; but were not agreed as to the difference of differences. In trying to find the true difference many questions were asked on each side by students of living and non-living matter. The student of life asked: What were its characteristic revelations? What were …

The Henological Argument For The Existence Of God, Paul Noelke Apr 1936

The Henological Argument For The Existence Of God, Paul Noelke

Bachelors’ Theses

If "only the fool says in his heart there is no God," the contemporary world is harboring countless simpletons. Where decades ago only a minority or rancid skeptics and confused "philosophers" admitted their agnosticism and atheism, today sincere people, as well as the more egregious moderns, are quite frank in proclaiming their disbelief in a Supreme Being. Syndicated newspaper columns, novels, radio addresses, and even political speeches take up the cudgels of the new humanism ·where the modern philosophical treatises leave off. The widely read Mr. Walter Lippmann states that the common man "feels that those who claim to be …

Aeneas's Trip Through The Lower World, Walter Kovaleski

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to trace Aeneas’s trip through the lower world, to clarify the allusions that are referred to in the original trip of Aeneas as portrayed by Vergil, and to identify the characters that are seen by Aeneas as he makes his way through Hades. Since Vergil wrote his Aeneid for a pagan audience, who knew the allusions that he mentioned in his account of Aeneas’s journey, there was no need for him to go into details about some of the events and characters found in the Sixth Book of the Aeneid; but to a …
