Pituitary Gland Of Frog, Harold Joseph
Pituitary Gland Of Frog, Harold Joseph
Bachelors’ Theses
The endocrine or ductless gland system is one of the most important systems in the body of the vertebrates. The glands which comprise this system are the pancreas, which produces the insulin hormone; the thyroid, which secretes the throxin hormone; the parathyroid which produces the hormone known as the para-thormone; the adrenal glands which secretes cortin and adrenalin; the pineal gland about which very little is known; and the pituitary gland which produces many hormones, two of which, tethelin and pituitrin, are of great physiological importance. These hormones pass directly into the blood or lymph vessels and enter the circulatory …
The Editorial Policies Of The Fond Du Lac Daily Reporter From 1912 To 1938, Lucile E. Julka
The Editorial Policies Of The Fond Du Lac Daily Reporter From 1912 To 1938, Lucile E. Julka
Bachelors’ Theses
Since it was believed that the study of the editorial policies of a paper, removed from the metropolitan field and thriving in a community of 28,000 people, would advance knowledge concerning the small daily field, the following thesis was written.
A comparison was made of editorial space devoted to national, state and city issues.
It is also the aim or this work to point out the gradual changing of a daily from a strictly party organ to an "on-the-fence" publication.

St. Bonaventure On The Relationship Between The Natural And Supernatural Virtues, Virgil William Kalchthaler
Bachelors’ Theses
The Middle Ages, although commonly called the Dark Ages, are probably the most interesting and intrigueing period of the history of the world. It was rich in learning as well as in adventure. It found the Holy Roman Church, whose history is more intrigueing than the history of any existing government today, changing the course of the history of the world in its intellectual as well as in its political phase.
Journalism Education In The United States, Leo Kissel
Journalism Education In The United States, Leo Kissel
Bachelors’ Theses
Since there are at the most only three works touching on Journalism education in the United States and only one of these published, the material for this thesis had to be drawn from articles printed in various periodicals and from sections of various histories of journalism and other books dealing with newspaperdom.
The treatise attempts to bring out all the aspects of the history of journalistic education in colleges, its aims, its accomplishments, the problems facing it in the future and also some of the opinions on journalistic education as expressed by educators and active newspapermen alike.
In all the …
Kidney Of The Frog, Felix Taubman
Kidney Of The Frog, Felix Taubman
Bachelors’ Theses
The frog has been used exclusively in both high school and college as the main source of experimental biological and zoological studies. Because it is so easily obtained and so finely adapted to our purposes, we chose it as the specimen upon which to do our thesis work. Much has been done experimentally on the kidneys with the frog. The purpose of this thesis is to present a general view of the external and microscopic anatomy of the frog kidney and with this as a groundwork to present the problems of secretion; whether secretion is carried on by the renal …
A Translation Of, And Commentary On St. Thomas Aquinas' De Natura Verbi Intellectus, Thomas A. Mccormack
A Translation Of, And Commentary On St. Thomas Aquinas' De Natura Verbi Intellectus, Thomas A. Mccormack
Bachelors’ Theses
Man, whenever he is sufficiently sure of the necessities of life and his sufficient leisure to think, has become interested in the acquisition of knowledge and of the wisdom which grows out of it. And then, as soon as he has acquired some knowledge for its own sake, he becomes self critical and wonders about the truth of that knowledge. Thus, at the very foundation of our western philosophy we find philosophers earnestly engaged in making the distinction between knowledge and opinion, and in trying to solve the problem of truth.
That this problem is a most persistent one is …
Investigation Of The Proteolytic Power Of Soybean Brew Flakes Using The New Viscosimetric Method, Jon Kenneth Mccormick
Investigation Of The Proteolytic Power Of Soybean Brew Flakes Using The New Viscosimetric Method, Jon Kenneth Mccormick
Bachelors’ Theses
Progress along technical and scientific paths may be considered slow or rapid, depending upon the point of view taken. A survey of the artistic and technical achievements of the early Egyptians and Babylonians would lead one to believe progress to be rather slow. Yet, a consideration of the social scientific developments of the last century would lead one to deem progress as being very rapid. Unknown and perhaps unconsciously, progress is continually being made by that vast legion of unheralded scientists ·and technicians from which arise the notable authorities of the future.
Commercial Laboratories From The Professional Point Of View, Victor I. Teltsch
Commercial Laboratories From The Professional Point Of View, Victor I. Teltsch
Bachelors’ Theses
Many of the dentists who practiced seventy years ago showed great skill in the laboratory phases of prosthetic dentistry. All laboratory details and procedures of denture construction, including preparation of various gold alloys, plaster of Paris, making of artificial teeth, compounding of rubber, and numerous other processes, were then considered routine duties in the practice of dentistry. At that time, crown and bridgework was another branch of the profession in which the dentist manifested his artistic and mechanical ingenuity. Elaborate bridgework requiring complex planning and preparation was in great demand. Many practitioners used their own individual designs and laboratory methods …
Electrogalvanic Phenomena Of Dental Importance, Morris Schwartz
Electrogalvanic Phenomena Of Dental Importance, Morris Schwartz
Bachelors’ Theses
The fact that dissimilar metallic restorations in the same mouth gives rise to electrogalvanic symptoms has been recognized for over one hundred years. Nineteenth century and early twentieth century accounts describe these phenomena more or less at length. However, it was not until the last decade that some attempt was made to correlate these electric phenomena with oral lesions such as leukoplakia, buccal ulcer and even carcinoma.
The Construction And Efficiency Of A Packed Type Laboratory Fractionating Column, Henry Rostkowski
The Construction And Efficiency Of A Packed Type Laboratory Fractionating Column, Henry Rostkowski
Bachelors’ Theses
Although simple and fractional distillation have been used commercially for many centuries, fractional distillation has been used in the laboratory only during comparatively recent years. The early laboratory fractionating columns were much less efficient than were the industrial columns. Starting about the year 1910 much work has been done in an attempt to improve the small laboratory columns. It has been the purpose of this work to build a column which combines some of the good features of columns of other workers. In addition, the column was built with the purpose of illustrating the theory of fractional distillation and thus …
The Construction Of Triangles Having Given Three Elements, Mary Eugene Wolter
The Construction Of Triangles Having Given Three Elements, Mary Eugene Wolter
Bachelors’ Theses
It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that I dedicate these following pages to those who are especially interested in mathematics, to those who are more geometrically than algebraically inclined, and in particular to my students in mathematics. It is through my students of the past that I have been assisted in bringing forth this work, by applying such knowledge as I have acquired in my teaching experience. To the pupils who in the future will come under my guidance and direction I hope to impart the benefits and fruits that should be the outgrowth of the labor and study …
Prison Labor, Jean Polewsky
Prison Labor, Jean Polewsky
Bachelors’ Theses
For many years past the problems of prison labor have been the subject of frequent national and international discussions. Innumerable books dealing with various phases of prison labor have been written. Many of them discuss the systems, the history, the legislature and the operation of prison labor. Few, if any, give a complete understanding of the system of prison labor as it did exist and as it does exist at the present day. It is for this reason that the writer wishes to discuss prison labor and bring together all important material on the subject. By this means the writer …
Coloration In The Frog, Elizabeth Mary Pluck
Coloration In The Frog, Elizabeth Mary Pluck
Bachelors’ Theses
The color of an animal is by no means a matter of chance. It depends upon many factors, such as, the presence or absence of certain hormones within the body, the temperature of the animal's surroundings, the amount of light which is present, and certain chemical reagents with which the animal comes in contact. Animals have both color and coloration; and it is necessary to discriminate between the two terms. Color is associated with actual shades or hues as red, green, or yellow; whereas, the term coloration refers to the manner in which the individual colors are arranged into patterns.

An Application Of Feulgen's Chromatin Stain To The Chromatin Material Of Sclerospora Graminicola, Elizabeth Annette Badalik
Bachelors’ Theses
Much work has been done up to the present time on the general staining of cells, but. the workers have been greatly limited in their attempts to stain one particular portion of a cell, such as the chromatin material, without staining the remaining portion of that same cell. The ideal stain should effect only the specified portion of the cell and the remaining portion which is not to be stained should remain stainless and void of color. There. has been a lack of reliable stain for differentiating the chromatin in the cytology of lower plants and Protista.

Development Of The Court's Doctrine Of Valuation And Corrupt Practices In Valuation For Rate Basing, Louis Walter Bohn
Bachelors’ Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to show the development of the court's doctrine of valuation as to what constitutes a public utility; the basis of valuation upon which the court would from time to time declare a fair return on the investment. The second part of the thesis tries to show the corrupt practices that are going on in the different corporations in reference to the padding of the rate base. Here the primary source employed was the Mack Investigation Report in the New York Times during February, March, May, June, September, October, November and December, 1935 and February …
The Influence Of Commercial Soy Bean Lecithin On The Development Of Rancidity In Lard, Casper L. Berner
The Influence Of Commercial Soy Bean Lecithin On The Development Of Rancidity In Lard, Casper L. Berner
Bachelors’ Theses
The preservation of food products is a problem which has troubled manufacturers for many years. A variety of preservatives of a poisonous nature has been used in the past but with the coming of the Pure Food Laws, the use of such toxic preservatives has been prohibited and it has become of importance to discover substances that will prevent spoiling of foods but still be non-toxic. In recent years, the use of lecithin has been advocated as a preservative for fats. Although it is absolutely non-toxic, its suitability as a preservative has been questioned. It is the purpose of this …

Practical Study Of The Musculatuer Of The Cat, Jack Lamalfa
Practical Study Of The Musculatuer Of The Cat, Jack Lamalfa
Bachelors’ Theses
The author has tried his best, in this thesis, to review, to dissect, and to make a comprehensive study of the muscles of the lower limb of the cat. With this end in view, he has taken the natural advantages present, such as text books, outlines, and charts as means of attaining it.
The anatomy of the cat’s muscles laid bare in dissection would be incomplete and inadequate without the aid of photographs and illustrations. So with the help of Charles Wilbur, B.S., a fellow student, the author succeeded in making some excellent views of the muscles of the lower …

Ludwig Anzengruber's Attitude Toward The Catholic Church, Anne Hoerburger
Bachelors’ Theses
In the following three chapters I propose to discuss Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld, Die Kreuzelschreiber, Der Meineidbauer, and Der G'wissenswurm, with an attempt to discover the attitude of the author, Ludwig Anzengruber, toward the Catholic Church. I shall not consider or attempt to discuss these dramas as regards their merit or demerit as dramatic works or as pieces of literature; nor shall I attempt to criticise the technique of the author, or his rank among the literary figures of the world. Any statements that I may make with regard to these points will be purely incidental …
The Anatomy, Physiology, And Histology Of The Musculature Of The Pelvic Appendages Of Rana Catesbiana, Wilfred F. Horner
The Anatomy, Physiology, And Histology Of The Musculature Of The Pelvic Appendages Of Rana Catesbiana, Wilfred F. Horner
Bachelors’ Theses
The muscles of the frog leg have been worked on very extensively during the last thirty-five years. The reason the frog has been subjected to such an extensive study in research is the fact of its striking resemblances to man and also the fact that they are plentiful and easy to work with in all types of experiments. The structures of a frog are well developed and prove very efficient for study.
This specific field of work was picked for this thesis because of the interest to the author, the magnitude of work done in the field, and the importance …

The Spanish Civil War As Reported In The New York Herald Tribune From Aug. 1, 1936 To July 31, 1937, Veronica J. Nawn
Bachelors’ Theses
Each issue of the New York Herald Tribune, from Aug. 1, 1936 to Aug. 1, 1937, was consulted. The length and position of each war story was noted, together with display in the headline or pictures accompanying the article. Attention was paid to the dateline, the source and authority, and the channels through which the story was sent -- since news fr om a strictly censored bureau is not usually as reliable as that from open cities.

In analyzing the folders of a section of freshman agricultural students of the first half term of 1937-38, the work of twenty-five students was studied. These students apparently had a poor background in mechanics of usage. Most of them were from rural areas. This thesis contains only a study of the work of those students whose work proved satisfactory.
The course outline designed for these students covered various phases of study. Letter-writing was the first unit of work studied by the class. Six class periods were alloted to it.
Bible literature was the second type of material which was studied. …

General Problems Of Choral Organization As Presented Through The Prairie View State College Chorus For 1937-38, Mamie Vivilora Reed
All Theses
This Thesis is an effort to present and discuss in succinct form the various problems of the Prairie View State College Chorus, attempting to present the material in such a way as to make it easily understood by the most casual reader and music lover.
All of the material, except that in absolute quote, is written in strictly individualistic and conversational style. This material presented is not the results of scientific research, but it has been presented as a result of my actual experience and participation in the Prairie View State College Chorus for four years (specifically this year).
