A Histological Comparison Of The Small Intestine Of The Frog And Man, Eli Getch
A Histological Comparison Of The Small Intestine Of The Frog And Man, Eli Getch
Bachelors’ Theses
Without the aid of a microscope, Bichat in 1800 studied tissues of various parts of the body, and, even though he did not make any cellular sketches, his work laid the foundation for histology. Then after the announcement of the cell theory by Schleiden and Schwann in 1839, a new path opened for histological study. Leydig (1864) applied the histology of that day to the lower animals. Cajal (1906) cleared up the complicated relations of the tissues together with a complete investigation of the nervous system.
The Separation And Identification Of The Solid Linseed Oil Fatty Acids By Fractional Crystallization Of Acetone, Albert J. Schlaeger
The Separation And Identification Of The Solid Linseed Oil Fatty Acids By Fractional Crystallization Of Acetone, Albert J. Schlaeger
Bachelors’ Theses
It Is surprising to note in the literature that oils and fats like linseed, tung, tea seed, soya bean and other oils although employed in the arts for many centuries still have their exact composition unknown. The fatty acids composing most of our common fats and oils are recognized but many of their properties still remain to be known. Up to the lat fifteen years the examination of oils was concerned only with the purity of a sample and with crude methods only rough compositions were calculated.
A Study Of The Skeletal System Of Emys Blanding Turtle, Joseph M. Mosovsky
A Study Of The Skeletal System Of Emys Blanding Turtle, Joseph M. Mosovsky
Bachelors’ Theses
The turtles have a bony investment or shell, into which the legs, head, and tail maybe drawn. In some turtles there is a hinge on the lower part of the shell that enables the animal to enclose itself more completely. Turtles which have no way of defending themselves other than by their shells have a well developed plastron and carapace for protection, but our vicious friend the snapping turtle whom nature has provided with powerful jaws and muscles has a comparatively small plastron. The marine turtles have the limbs fin-like, indicating their aquatic life. The land turtles have them short …
A Historical Study Of The Development Of The Embryo In The Germinating Tubers Of Nephrolepis Cordifolia, Baker, Verne Schwalbach
A Historical Study Of The Development Of The Embryo In The Germinating Tubers Of Nephrolepis Cordifolia, Baker, Verne Schwalbach
Bachelors’ Theses
The tubers of Nephrolepis cordifolia.- Baker were first reported and studied by Professor Heinricher (1881). His work with the tubers was concerned with what he termed regeneration. However, this term, regeneration, was found to have the same connotation as the term germination and the two were used interchangeably throughout his work.
The Effects Of An Insufficient Carbohydrate Diet On The Leucocytes Of The Normal Albino Rat, Carl Frederick Glienke
The Effects Of An Insufficient Carbohydrate Diet On The Leucocytes Of The Normal Albino Rat, Carl Frederick Glienke
Bachelors’ Theses
This thesis deals with the effects of an insufficient carbohydrate diet on the differential counts of the leucocytes of the common albino rat. The experiment was chosen because of the interesting problem it presented and because little could be found on work done regarding it. To the ’writer’s knowledge, very little work has been done in even establishing a definite differential count of a normal rat, much less working on one under an abnormal condition. Because of this lack of information, a normal count was first established for the strain used, and then this count was compared with that of …

A Determination Of The Melting Points Of Binary Mixtures Of Halowax 1014 And Natural Waxes By The Dropping Pellet Method, Leslie Jones
Bachelors’ Theses
The original intent of this thesis was twofold: First, to adapt the dropping pellet method of determining melting points to the determination of the melting points of various binary mixtures of Halowax 1014 and natural waxes. This work follows up the investigation of Kroening who used the ball and ring method of determining the melting points of mixtures of various Halowaxes and natural waxes. Second, to attempt to ascertain whether there are formed in these binary mixtures chemical compounds which would account for their peculiar behavior as regards melting points.

A phenomenon of surpassing biological interest is the adjustment of living substance to its surroundings. That living things should so act as to promote their own welfare is indeed wonderful; that such acts are common is evident on every hand.
A Cytological Study Of The Intestinal Glandular Epithelium, Mary Judelle Zuiker
A Cytological Study Of The Intestinal Glandular Epithelium, Mary Judelle Zuiker
Bachelors’ Theses
Continuing from the stomach, the digestive tract becomes a smaller tube whose internal surface is much increased by means of folds--the plica circularis, the villi, and crypts of Lieberkühn. The plica (formerly known as valvulae conniventes) are really elevations of the submucosa covered on both sides by the entire mucous membrane-villi, glands, and muscularis mucosae. The mucosa membrane, or tunica mucosa, is lined by simple columnar epithelium in which many goblet cells are present, particularly in the deeper folds. The basement membrane, as well as the muscularis mucosa, are identical with those of the stomach.
A Comparison Between Saponification And Iodine Values And Melting Point Curves For Mixtures Of Various Natural Waxes And Halowax 1012, William Kenneth Watts
A Comparison Between Saponification And Iodine Values And Melting Point Curves For Mixtures Of Various Natural Waxes And Halowax 1012, William Kenneth Watts
Bachelors’ Theses
This thesis 1s concerned with the nature of the action of the lowering of the melting point of the various natural waxes by the addition of Halowax. The problem was suggested by the work of Louis Kroening in his thesis, "The Effect of Halowax 1012, 1013, and 1014 on the Melting Points of the Various Waxes", and also by that of Joseph M. Sevenich in his thesis, "An Investigation of Halowaxes in Trinary Wax Mixtures". The former showed conclusively that the presence of Halowax in a wax mixture invariably lowered the melting point of the natural wax. The latter showed …

Resistance To Staphylococcus Aureus In White Rats, Robina B. Langill
Resistance To Staphylococcus Aureus In White Rats, Robina B. Langill
Bachelors’ Theses
An investigation of bibliographies shows that staphylococcus aureus in its pathogenic potentialities has been extensively investigated from varied points of view and with frequently conflicting results.
Staphylococcus aureus is most frequently associated with furuncles, wound infection, and minor skin abcesses. Occasionally, however, due to extreme lowered resistance or other conditions not fully understood, staphylococcus causes a septicaemia which is attended by an 80% mortality rate. Post-mortem examinations of the victims of such septicaemia show an extensive invasion of all organs of the body by the bacteria but more particularly a hyperplasia of the lymph nodes, the spleen and thymus, indicating …

The Spatial And Sustenance Position Of 204 Families Of The Hempstead Community, Jesse Hampton Sterling
All Theses
In observing our surroundings or in comparing one community with another, one is often made to wonder as to how certain phases of our surroundings or community come to be. Did these things just happen or is there some definite law as to the order of things? In observing the spatial and sustenance position of the population of a community one often wonders as to how this person came to live in this community? Why Is the population larger in this community than in another? Why is it that the population in this community is concentrated on one side of …

Some Difficulties Encountered By Students With Secondary Mathematics, Roscoe N. Rigmaiden
Some Difficulties Encountered By Students With Secondary Mathematics, Roscoe N. Rigmaiden
All Theses
Mathematics is a subject in which all schools require that you must enroll. Students who take up the study of mathematics find the work extremely difficult and distasteful. Such students frequently complain that they were good in Mathematics while in High School or that they have never studied Mathematics or that they have forgotten the mathematics necessary for their success in the course. This is not altogether surprising. It seems that the teachers in our secondary schools are too lenient, thus, over rating the student. The student then goes to college with little or no knowledge of mathematics.
The purpose …
"The Scope Of Woodcraft For Home Economic Girls At Prairie View State College", Nola Thae Mcclinton

In preparing this thesis I have constantly borne in mind the usefulness of woodcraft to the Home Economic Girls at Prairie View State College. I intend to encourage the development of an appreciation of the general principles of woodcraft rather than the practical method. To do this the students in woodcraft should be given an opportunity for the acquisition of skill in the handling of tools and some practice in designing simple projects in wood. The woodcraft industries in this country, particularly the building and furniture industries, are among the most important, because they employ thousands of highly skilled workmen, …
A Study Of The Opinions Of Forty Student College Men And Ten Faculty Men At Prairie View State College Regarding The Contribution Of Home Economics To Boys And Men, Bertha Lee Bell
All Theses
This thesis attempts to show some of the basic reasons why men fail to share their responsibilities in making home life success. At a time when every subject in our school curriculum is challenged to prove its worth, and when every teaching method is being submitted to critical examination, Home Economics has been called upon to justify its claims and examine its methods. Teachers and supervisors have been stimulated to as to what extent the work taught in school actually functions in the student's life, and especially in the lives of young men. Are practices that affect their health actually …
