A Study Of Methods For The Purification And The Removal Of Color From Trinitrotoluene Wash Waters, William Wilson

Masters Theses

"Symmetrical Trinitrotoluene is stable in the presence of moisture, but the nonsymmetrical trinitrotoluenes permit replacement of a nitro group with the formation of a nitrated cresol and nitrous acid. Nitrated cresols form salts similar to the picrates. To avoid these nonsymmetrical trinitrotoluenes the Ordinance Department, U. S. A., requires that Grade I trinitrotoluene have a solidification point of at least 80.2⁰C.². Numerous methods for purifying the crude trinitrotoluene and others for separating the nitrotoluenes have been suggested"--Introduction, page 1.

The Comparative Difference In Skeletal Structure Of Two Strains Of The Mus Musculus, Pasqual A. Capitanelli Oct 1942

The Comparative Difference In Skeletal Structure Of Two Strains Of The Mus Musculus, Pasqual A. Capitanelli

Bachelors’ Theses

Father Raymond H. Reis, S.J., and Robert A. Littleford, Ph.D., both of the staff of Marquette's University Zoology department, while working upon an experiment in the feeding to the common house mouse, "Mus Musculus", noted that in the two strains of mice that were used, the white variety of mouse was a trifle larger than the black variety, but that their weights were identical. They suggested the possibility of a skeletal difference that seemed to be most prominent in the head of the mice.

The Effect Of The Ph On The Viscosity Of Various Gelatin Solutions, Theodore C. Kraus Aug 1942

The Effect Of The Ph On The Viscosity Of Various Gelatin Solutions, Theodore C. Kraus

Bachelors’ Theses

Tremendous research has been done in recent years In the field of the protein colloids. Our small, but nevertheless important knowledge of the protein colloids is due to such eminent investigators as Loeb, Kruyt, Freundlich, and Hardy, to name only a few. They have presented to the scientific world valuable experiments and reports of their work. However, much remains to be accomplished in spite of their achievements. The fact that the whole of the organic life processes concerns Itself with colloidal phenomena, particularly the reactions of large aggregates of protein particles, is indicative that the field is widespread in its …

The Stability Of Aqueous And Calcium Gluconate Solutions Of Vitamin C, Charles Patrick Hawkins Aug 1942

The Stability Of Aqueous And Calcium Gluconate Solutions Of Vitamin C, Charles Patrick Hawkins

Bachelors’ Theses

The first identification of vitamin C as such took place in 1931. This water-soluble, antiscorbutic vitamin has variously been known as "hexuronic acid", "cevitamic
acid", "cevalin", and "cebione". However , the present name given to it because of its anti-scurvy properties by Haworth and Szent-Gyorgyi, "1-ascorbic acid" , will apparently survive as its chemical name, particularly since that name has been adopted by the American Chemical Society, the American Medical Association, and the U.S.P.

Sustenance Position Of Texas Negro Domestic Servants In The Texas Economy, Lois Arnell Reynolds

All Theses

The Negro represents a very important group in the field of domestic and personal service work* This is evidenced in the many studies which have shown that more Negroes are concentrated in this field than any other racial group. The preponderance of Negroes in this occupation has contributed greatly to the stigma placed upon domestic and personal service work, rendering it unattractive to many highly trained individuals. Despite this fact, however, the Negro domestic servant plays an important role in the Texas economy. He occupies a particular niche in the hierarchy of economic endeavor. This niche is determined by the …

A Recommended Program Of Principal-Teacher Supervision For Center Point School, Pittsburg, Texas, Thomas Henry Burton, Sr.

All Theses

Background and development of Modern Supervision

Not with standing the fact we have a different type of supervision today than was practiced when public schools in America were first established, supervision has existed ever since the formation of the first public school system. When the General Court of Boston, directed by the selectmen, was instructed to secure teachers with certain religious training, a type of supervision was being carried on. That custom was followed for nearly fifty years, at which time the teachers came under more formal supervision. The schools, using Boston as an illustration, were supervised by a committee, …
