The Synthesis And Certain Chemical Properties Of Several Aromatic Fluorides, Horst G. Schneider Aug 1946

The Synthesis And Certain Chemical Properties Of Several Aromatic Fluorides, Horst G. Schneider

Bachelors’ Theses

The preparation of organic fluorides, until only recently, had been seriously curtailed not only because of the difficulty experienced in their synthesis, but also due to the lack of information with regard to their physical and chemical properties. With the investigation of their characteristics, their great importance was for the first time fully realized. A concerted search was made for new modes of their preparation. That this search was rewarded is shown in part by the synthesis of several aromatic fluorides as a portion of this thesis.

A Cytological Study Of The Salivary Gland Chromosomes Of The Attached-X Variety Of Drosophila Melanogaster, Jack Schull Aug 1946

A Cytological Study Of The Salivary Gland Chromosomes Of The Attached-X Variety Of Drosophila Melanogaster, Jack Schull

Bachelors’ Theses

The detailed study of -the salivary chromosomes of the Diptera has been of great importance in substantiating cytologically the theories of genetics. A noteworthy example of the importance of cytological study is the non-disjunctive phenomenon which has occurred on at least several occasions in the strain of Drosophila melanogaster. Bridges (1913) was the first to report nondisjunction of sex chromosomes which was an important confirmation of the chromosome theory. L. V. Morgan (1922) used the cytological study of the germ cells of Drosophila melanogaster to prove that there was no disjunction of the sex chromosomes in the attached-X strain.

This comparison will consist in noting the differences and points of similarity between the two animals. The autonomic nervous system of the cat is more complex than that of the pigeon and for that reason the comparison will consist in pointing out the parts of the autonomic nervous system present in the cat, but which are not found in the pigeon. In noting the points of similarity only the most important will be treated.

In America education should be for the democratic way of life; consequently, teaching in American public schools should emphasize pupil participation in planning, executing, and evaluating classroom activities. Relation Of Socio-Economic Status On General Intelligence, Johnnie Lee Gaston Aug 1946

Relation Of Socio-Economic Status On General Intelligence, Johnnie Lee Gaston

All Theses

A generation ago it was customary to regard the development of intelligence as one of the cardinal aims of education. It was taken for granted that education served not only to train the individual to perform specific acts or to see to it that he acquired certain items of information but also to increase his intellectual power so as to make him a better thinker. By so doing it would train the mind of the individual to become a more effective tool for the performance of any intellectual task to which he might turn his attention. Not many years a …
