A Survey Of Athletic Training Departments Of 16 Four Year Colleges In The State Of California, Irving B. Thompson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The care of the athlete has come into much discussion and has been the object of much research, but all this has come about in recent years. The athlete's health is paramount to a successful team and a conscientious coach; more so is his health important in contact sports with intercollegiate football in the foreground. The interest in football injuries has increased with the increased emphasis of the sport, for the coach is finding it more and more important to have all his players in the best possible condition to withstand the physical and mental strain under which they must …

The History Of The Expropriation Of The American Oil Companies In Mexico, Marie F. Stebbins Jan 1948

The History Of The Expropriation Of The American Oil Companies In Mexico, Marie F. Stebbins

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The Six Year Plan under President Cardenas had a positive structure built on the agrarian movement, the cooperative movement and the educational movement. In order to give the Mexicans an increasing share of the country's wealth, President Cardenas believed that the "process of building cooperatives was to shift the balance of economic power gradually from the capitalist class to the workers". He also believed that "Mexico never would become prosperous by serving as a siren for foreign capital because capitalism fattens on low wages." Then, too, "the workers would only prosper when industry was controlled by the governement and the …

A Study Of The Development Of The Recreation Department Of Stockton, California, Margaret Fitzgerald Coston Jan 1948

A Study Of The Development Of The Recreation Department Of Stockton, California, Margaret Fitzgerald Coston

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Stockton is a city suffering from the sudden realization that it is no longer a small farm town, end that in the process of becoming a moderate-sized city, a community faces inevitable growing pains.

The municipal recreation phase of city government well illustrates this fact. Because of the great need for expansion in this field, and because the city is now just beginning to rise to meet the occasion, a study of the Recreational Department and the program of the Metropolitan Recreation Commission in Stockton City Government and San Joaquin County, is a particularly interesting activity.

In contrast to many …

The Importance Of The Communal Theatre As A Civic Institution And Means By Which It Can Be Strengthened And Improved, John J. Gemma

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of writing this thesis is twofold. The writer will first establish the importance of the communal theatre as a civic institution, and then he will regard the original research material as it indicates the means by which the communal theatre may be strengthened and improved. It is hoped that this research will prove interesting and valuable to dram enthusiasts, educators, and the people of any community.

A Study Of The Use Of Music In The Religious Education Of Children, Edith Myrtle Sergison Jan 1948

A Study Of The Use Of Music In The Religious Education Of Children, Edith Myrtle Sergison

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

For centuries, music has played an important part in religion. One author has said, "....in religion music always has been a means of reaching the depths of the human heart, even when spoken or written words fail." The Assyrians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all used music in their ceremonies. The Hebrews used trumpets, cymbals and harps as part of their worship, and some of the most outstanding hymns were written by their King David. The Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 5119-20 advised to "speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and sacred songs. Sing praise to God with all your hearts, …

A Study Of Certain Ferromagnetic Alloys In The Systems Copper-Manganese-Indium And Copper-Manganese-Gallium, Frederick Arthur Hames Jan 1948

A Study Of Certain Ferromagnetic Alloys In The Systems Copper-Manganese-Indium And Copper-Manganese-Gallium, Frederick Arthur Hames

Doctoral Dissertations

"In 1898 F. Heusler discovered that certain alloys containing only copper, manganese, and tin are ferromagnetic. Since that time, ferromagnetic alloys have been reported to occur in the ternary systems copper-manganese-aluminum, copper-manganese-arsenic, copper-manganese-boron, copper-manganese-antimony, copper-manganese-zinc, silver-manganese-aluminum, and silver-manganese-tin. Such ferromagnetic alloys containing only non-ferromagnetic elements have come to be called "Heusler alloys."

From the metallographic standpoint, the ferromagnetic copper-manganese-aluminum and copper-manganese-tin alloys have been the most fully investigated of the Heusler alloys. These alloys owe their ferromagnetism to the beta phases in their respective systems. The structure of the beta phase is based on a body-centered cubic lattice.

A Study Of The Littoral Marine Isopod Crustacea Of The Dillon Beach Area, Robert James Menzies Jan 1948

A Study Of The Littoral Marine Isopod Crustacea Of The Dillon Beach Area, Robert James Menzies

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to provide accurate diagnoses of the littoral marine isopod crustacea in the Dillon Beach area. Such a purpose involved a much more complete study of the anatomy of the species represented in the fauna than was heretofore performed. Certain anatomical structures deemed by earlier writers as specifically diagnostic are demonstrated to be unreliable and in a great many instances other structures previously neither described or figured by American writers are considered of paramount importance in species identification. The number and magnitude of the changes proposed in this paper as illustrated in outline form …

Certain Evidences Of Classical Greek Influence On Shelley, George Robert Dietz Jan 1948

Certain Evidences Of Classical Greek Influence On Shelley, George Robert Dietz

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

English poetry in particular has received both enrichment and motivation from classical sources. The case of Percy Bysshe Shelley, nineteenth century English Romantic poet, provides an excellent illustration of this point. This study will attemp to place before the reader evidence of Shelley's debt to ancient Greece as revealed in his life and his poetry, with particular emphasis upon the influences of Aeschylus and Plato.
