Distribution Of The Herpetofauna Of Kentucky., Symoine Kamin Laufe

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Although the herpetofauna of Kentucky is extensive and varied. it has received much less attention than that of most other states. Many herpetologists have reported on various phases of the state's amphibians and reptiles, but for the most part these reports are discrete, either pertaining to a collection, or a generic or specific study. Hence, there is no single adequate work which aptly describes the herpetology of Kentucky as a whole. When one realizes the keystone position of Kentucky in relation to northern and southern forms, the need of a zoogeographical summary of the state becomes even more apparent. Therefore, …

A Proposed Program For The Veterans’ Institute At Dowagiac, Michigan, Harold E. Telfer

Masters Theses

Chapter I

Introduction

The close of World War II and the return to civilian life of its large number of young men and women veterans has been a period of rapid adjustments. A large number of these adjustments have been facilitated, or at least affected, by the legislative provisions of the national government. These provisions, in turn, have been affected by the applications made of them by local communities and their agencies. One example of the local application of the aims of the veterans' benefit laws is the Veterans' Institute jointly sponsored in Dowagiac, Michigan, by the Cass Country Veterans' …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Today with the advent of an ever increasing industrialization, the importance of developing the skill, strength, and knowledge of the young people to meet the new age is recognized as never before. Not only must the fundamentalism of traditional education be revised in terms of a more progressive education, but also the practical, non-academic courses should be given more consideration. In this thesis I have attempted to analyze one particularly important aspect of the problem of youth and employment. I have presented here a sociological analysis of part-time employment in the Louisville, Kentucky Senior High schools. It was my intention …

The Congress Of Industrial Organizations Movement Into The South With Special Reference To Texas 1936-1948, James Dean Hays

All Theses

Unionism Is a comparatively new phenomena in the Southern scene. The coming of unions to the South has a revolutionary effect upon the economic and social pattern of the region. Tolerated at best when in the older traditional pattern of horizontal craftism, the south has come to hate the newer form of vertical industrialism as typified by the C. I. 0., because they see in its program of militant democracy the seeds of social revolution. As the Industry of the nation continues to move south, and as in the case of the southwest, as new industrial empires arise on the …

A Study Of The Effects Of Some Chemical And Physical Factors On Plankton In An Artificial Lake, Archie Garnett Smither Aug 1948

A Study Of The Effects Of Some Chemical And Physical Factors On Plankton In An Artificial Lake, Archie Garnett Smither

Master's Theses

It has been well established that chemical and physical factors exert a marked effect upon the plankton population in bodies of water. However, the literature reveals the fact that the same chemical and physical factors not only produce a different effect upon plankton in different bodies of water, but are not consistent in their effects upon plankton in like bodies of water. For example, Birge and Juday (1911) made a study of 150 lakes, not widely separated in distance or varying in topographic conditions. These lakes were also of the same age, yet all were individual as to the amount …

There has been no hesitation to employ whatever information psychology may offer concerning the processes at work in conversion, together with any technique which might serve to increase its likelihood. It is not the purpose of this thesis to champion the cause of …
